I liked it. Good blend of humor and action. I wish they would have shown him going after some more terrorists... that scene was awesome. I would have liked more of that.

hulk would have been a 1000x better movie if it were just jennifer connolly jumping up and down on a trampoline for an hours topless

So I never read/got into any of the Iron Man comics... two questions about the original storyline:

1) Does the general public know that Tony Stark is Iron Man?
2) Does the character Iron Man generally go after international threats like terrorism or does he deal with petty criminals as well? Like Spider-Man has his super villains but he also goes after the little guys too, is it the same with Iron Man?

What the hell do you people expect? It's hard to do a 15ft-tall wad of muscle without resorting to cgi.

When I got back from Iron Man, I read up on his story on wikipedia...its kinda dumb at some points in my opinion.

1) Generally, the public believes that Iron Man is a hired body guard of Tony Stark who is using the armor that Stark created. There were a few instances where he revealed his identity as Iron Man, but he would later fake his own death or publicly hang up the suit and hire another body guard to take the job. If he did something bad he would say he fired the person in the suit and hired another one.

2) From what I gathered, he keeps to American soil fighting petty crime and supervillians. His terrorism stint was from when designs of his suit were used by the government when he acknowledged his identity as Iron Man (apparently it allowed the government to take his designs). Terrorist nations and general bad guys began developing their own suits so Stark traveled the world destroying or disabling suits. He ended up killing the Soviet Union version of Iron Man and destroying a suit that did not use his technology which ended up being bad publicity for Iron Man.

^^we will see some of that in the sequel when Stark delves into depression and James Rhodes (Terrance Howard) takes the Mark II suit and becomes War Machine for a short stint.

Agreed. It looked terrible. If that's the best they could do with the cgi then they should have waited another decade before tackling the project.

i've got no real interest in the Hulk. I'm sure i'll see it regardless but ever since i was a little kid the Hulk has always been my least interesting superhero.

i think he was addressing your post. But the more i read your post i think you meant that he wouldn't have the power unit at that moment...b/c there were only 2 at that point of the story. the original in starks and the stolen unit in War Monger

and just to add b/c i typed it originally
the suits are designed specifically for Tonk Starks. in the comics Rhodes starts to gain side effects from the war machine armour's cerebral interface. It causes him to go on a disillusioned rampage. Thus causing stark to become Iron Man again to stop war machine.

(side note: i believe that may be the plot of the sequel)

^^^^ i think the plot of the sequel will either one of 4 things
1) what u said about war machine going crazy and ironman shuting him down - but that was basically the plot of this one hims fighting his older armor.
2) they address the part of the comic where the armor takes over him and starts killing on it's own
3) they introduce a villain(mandrin?doom?ultron?) and he needs war machine's help to take him down.
4) a combination of #1 and #3

^^those are all good options. I read a lot of stuff about this movie and its pre-production life. The entire cast is signed on for 3 movies which is awesome. John Favreau said that he struggled with finding a villain for iron man. Mandrin is one of the more known from the comics but is somewhat dated and tough to bring to life on camera (especially for the first movie, trying to stay as grounded as possible and his origin/powers as fantasy as they come). I think they did a great job with the villain in the first and I agree that we will see an inner struggle in the follow-ups and maybe even Crimson Dynamo before its all said and done

^what i've read is that with these new batch of Marvel movies they are clausing the contracts for the casts to appear in a final Avengers/SHIELD movie bringing this "current marvel universe" together as one. And that it will be an 'all or nothing' deal. either each character is played by the original actor or the movie will never happen. My opinion, I do think we will see a bit more Nick Fury, but not as much as we may think.

Saw Iron Man yesterday. 7/10. On par with the Spiderman movies. I wanted to see a little more action.

Don't forget to catch the scene at the end of the credits.

"Rhodes takes over the armor and role of Iron Man, even fighting in the Secret Wars. He begins to experience headaches while using the armor, and his behavior began to grow more erratic and aggressive. Rhodes's manic mental state is revealed to be the result of the armor's cerebral interfaces, which are calibrated for Stark's brain, leaving any other long-term user disoriented and confused. The recovering Stark helps Rhodes maintain the armor. Rhodes continues as Iron Man but his increasing paranoia causes him to believe that Stark means to retake the armor.

Rhodes goes on a rampage, and Stark is forced to don a crude, prototype suit of armor to stop Rhodes. Rhodes comes to his senses, and the two reconcile. The two fight together until Rhodes is injured by Stane, and Stark assumes the role of Iron Man again."

probably something like this but with a different villan(s) assisted/involved with SHIELD resolving at the end...

they could also twist it by having stark mod the mk II armor (the silver one, for rhodes) and having them both do something... or just modding the mkII armor into warmachine after the red-gold fucks with rhodes mind

Know it, learn it, live it:

Quote :
"Yeah, that's like when people forget the hyphen in Spider-Man--it's unforgivable. And some might say neither matters, but I say different. Here's my piece:

Just as the hyphen as a rhetorical device indicates that the 'Spider' and the 'Man' are coequal elements in 'Spider-Man,' so, too, does the separation of the 'Iron' and the 'Man' in 'Iron Man' tell us something. The space between the words at issue informs us that--despite an increasing trend toward union of the suit and the man--Stark and his suit are not one. Stark's humanity separates him from being a mere piece of machinery."

I thought it was good, but not great. I don't see how anyone could say it's better than Spider-Man 1, 2, or X2.

Downey was excellent as Stark and made cheesy lines work, although i could take or leave his conversations with his machines.

Here's the scene after the credits (in poor quality) if anyone else wants to see it:
