I don't think that a lot of people realize that daytime running lights do not turn on your taillights, I think some people think they are good to go with DRLs. (Also, they are lower wattage on a lot of cars, so turn on your real lights!)

If it's against the law not to, then why aren't cops out giving tickets for it? It's a gold mine out there. And even if those tickets don't make much money, it's atleast a good excuse to pull people over and who knows what you'll find then (driving without a license/insurance, etc)

My brother in law is a cop, and he said it's only like a $15 fine or something ridiculous like that in the city he works. It's literally not worth his time to waste, plus, as has been mentioned, there aren't a whole lot of people that would want to get out in the rain plus show up for court just to hand out some bullshit nothing ticket, if that's the only thing that they are doing wrong. The excuse to pull someone over really doesn't mean much either, cause if cops wanted to pull you over, they're gonna find something wrong, and if they spend all day pulling over every minor infraction they wouldn't have time to do anything else and they still wouldn't get 10% of the people that are doing something wrong. In the grand scheme of things, it makes about as much sense as pulling someone for going 2 MPH over the speed limit.

While that's largely true, what excuse do state troopers/highway patrol have? All they do is pull people over to write chickenshit tickets. That's literally all I've ever seen or heard about state troopers doing. Even the one state trooper I knew (father of one of my high school friends) pretty much only did that.

I'd much rather see them enforcing that shit and I'd love to see a heftier fine for something that is a legitimate safety concern than see them pulling over people for "speeding" that isn't reckless and careless. I mean, it's 2014, cars now can safely travel much faster than 55 and still stop in less distance than cars from 1970.
