Pete pitched again today.
Quote : | "PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Pedro Martinez pitched three perfect innings in his second rehabilitation start Tuesday before allowing three runs in the fourth.
Martinez, who has been working his way back from right shoulder surgery in October, threw 60 pitches for the New York Mets’ Rookie-level Gulf Coast League team and then another 20 fastballs in the bullpen.
“I like this outing a lot more than the other one,” Martinez said. “I am more in command, and I actually felt like I pitched a little bit, making pitches where I wanted to, and overall it was a jump ahead. It was a great improvement.”" |
Word is he feels great and was hitting 91-92 on the gun. Two more rehab starts and his first start should come in ATL...8/14/2007 4:47:05 PM |

If Pedro only gets two more rehab starts and is actually pitching against ATL in two weeks, then so be it. I bet the Braves light his ass up because he will not be ready for MLB hitters.
The Mets are rushing him back and I think they'll regret not bringing him along slower. They're going to win the East anyway because neither the Braves nor Phils has enough pitching to overtake the Mets. They should just get Pedro ready for the playoffs. 8/14/2007 5:09:23 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
Actually, he is a bit behind schedule. The early projections had him pitching by Aug 15 in the bigs. They delayed his rehab starts a bit. The plan was always 4-5 rehab and then 5-6 ML starts before October, should they make it. 8/14/2007 6:06:49 PM |

^ I thought for a surgery like the one he had, the typical recover for a pticher was 1+ years. Either way I don't think the Mets really need him other than as a 5th starter. Their front four is better than the Braves or Phils. If he does come back and is even 75% of what he used to be, then the Mets should cruise to the World Series. 8/14/2007 6:23:10 PM |

Anyway, Humber should be getting his first major league start Saturday against ATL. He is one of the top pitchers of the PCL and is a former #3 overall pick out of Rice. Can't wait to see his curve...

Any word on the playoff rotation? It will be really interesting to see how it turns out. Pedro's looked fantastic so far, but has only logged in 16 innings. I am sure Glavine will be a starter, but they have a lot of options for the third starter. If a remember correctly, El Duque did a pretty good job in the playoffs from the bullpen with the white sox, but he should still be up for consideration as a starter. Perez and Maine are both excellent pitchers, but both seem to be inconsistent. I'd like to see El Duque get a shot as a starter, but I have a feeling the foot injury will rule that out. So I'm guessing it will be Glavine, Martinez, and Maine. Has Randolph said anything about this yet? 9/16/2007 12:15:48 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
My guess is Maine will be the long man unless El Duque's foot keeps him out much longer than expected.
Glavine Pedro El Duque Perez
in no particular order... Sele won't be on the playoff roster and Maine is far better suited to the pen then Perez is... 9/16/2007 1:21:42 PM |

Damn 6 errors today. The Phils have closed to 3.5 games. They'll collapse, but it is amazing that they play so well against the Mets. Braves are now 7.5 out - woo hoo

8 earned runs Maine? And against the Nationals? 5 Straight losses, and it looks like the Phils pick up another game on them tonight (currently up in the 10th inning). It that holds up, the lead is down to 1.5 games. 9/18/2007 11:32:14 PM |

What sucks about this NL East chase is that the Braves will probably be the reason the Mets win the East seeing that they play the Phils while the Mets play the Marlins like 9 times in the last week.
Who the fuck is making the schedules where neither the Braves nor Phillies play the Mets in the last four series of the year and then the Red Sox and Yankees don't play either the rest of the season. Everyone basically knows which teams are going to be in the playoff chase from the start of the season.
It would be awesome to have a Phils-Mets series right now or another final weekend Red Sox-Yanks series. Instead both NY teams are playing garbage teams the rest of the way...

nah, pedro's actually looked pretty good in his first three starts
i would be worried about losing 7 of the last 10 and a sub-.500 record against the east, though
