I actually have to root a little bit for Blu-Ray, only because businesses today (particularly large ones like Sony) are so risk averse and live only for short term profits. Sticking their neck out (and failing) multiple times in the hopes of finally striking rich on a proprietary format takes a lot of balls and I have to give them credit for that.

I'm no fan of proprietary formats, but at least there's a corporation who's willing to sacrifice lots of short-term profit in the interests of huge long-term gain

It's a shame that all the best demonstrations of HD-DVD picture quality happen to be tied to shit movies.

Blockbuster just announced that they are offering Blu-Ray, and excluding HD-DVD

another reason while i'll keep netflix

supporting a single standard is the dumbest thing they could have done.
having the industries battle to make 1 format cheaper than the other ftw.

HD-DVD is 300 for their new cheapest player. Blue-ray's cheapest player (or damn near) is a ps3 at 500ish.

^^ you can get the USB HD DVD add-on drive for the xbox 360 for $185 (that's what it was at the walmart in hartsville, sc -- i know the price elsewhere is $199) and it'll work on a PC (with appropriate software installed -- new DVD playback software windvd or powerdvd supports it) as well as the xbox 360

it's pretty obvious there is a direct correlation b/w the two.

You can find all the same tools that were littering the first few pages of this thread in the 360 thread over in the Entertainment section.

Its somewhat incongruous that I would be told to "grow up" after balking at dropping hundreds of dollars on a first-adopter entertainment device

and that the same person talking about how I need to grow up would quote a song that makes fun of being frugal.

who needs to grow up, in this situation?

I believe his point although stated in a childish manner is,

"If these players are not yet in your price range (especially hd-dvd) then you probably haven't had dvds for that long. It would also be safe to assume that multi-media centers and enjoying their platforms would probably also not be considered one of your hobbies thus you have no business commenting on someone else's hobby and a market that is not aimed at your demographic (whether you cannot afford it or cannot justify the expense)."

If i had a gift card which allowed me to select 8 , hd-dvd movies, or bluray movies.

I would breeze through the first 4, then the last 4 would be a struggle.

a regular xbox is a hd-dvd player now? here i thought you needed a xbox360 ($300) and then another box ($200) still with no HDMI

combined cost of $500 to $600 (taxes)

...

or get a ps3 $600, get HDMI, avoid ugly add-on

ohh noes its a 225 dollar hd-dvd player..
i think you can still get regular dvd players for that
basically if you consider your ps2 or coby a sufficient dvd player you don't care and just got sick of looking for vhs.

if you don't have an hd-tv though really... just leave this thread cause why do you care who wins?

We get to make fun of both camps. Everyone else is stuck trying to make fun of the other group in hopes that it will somehow validate their choice.

even though it is a much better movie player.
the fact the a 360 can be linked to a pc is def ftw.

shinier?
less, but crappier games?
shittier online system?
old ass controller that i (and many others) still think blows?

the only thing you can really argue for is hdmi and built in bluray. maybe reliability but that is becomming less of an issue.

Turning this thread into a PS3 vs 360 argument is retarded.

This statement:

"ps3 is everything xbox360 wishes it was"
