the synthetic body parkers are lighter but just barely however i dont think i want to go much lighter than these Ss, theyre perfect for me live.
The parker synthetics are also not heavy enough tone wise for what I play with this band, but they are surprisingly good sounding considering they are not real wood. but mahogany >>> still. 3/20/2008 3:17:28 PM |

anybody know anything about the wood-bodied reverends?
my buddy has one of the original hollow phenolic (danelectro-style) ones with P-90s that just ROARS, but he won't part with it and i can't afford what they command on the market right now because the new ones just aren't the same 3/20/2008 6:13:17 PM |

i've gotta do some wiring work on my electric (dean evo special). and i'm thinking about upgrading the pickups at the same time. i don't play in a band anymore so this guitar is used mostly/solely for recording right now so tone is important. any suggestions? as in what's your favorite pickup and why. 3/27/2008 2:28:07 PM |

Dog-ear P-90 FTW
Sounds great clean or distorted...all the crunch of a humbucker without the muddiness; string clarity always comes through. It's a very touch-sensitive pickup, and sounds completely different with the volume and tone rolled down to six.
BEST. PICKUP. EVER.

^^ No. A P-90 is wider than standard a humbucker but narrower front-to-back. However, there are plenty of P-90s that are made to be a direct replacement for a humbucker. It's worth doing some research, because some of them are more of a hybrid sound than a true P-90 sound, but look into these:
Gibson P-94 Harmonic Design Z-90 GFS Mean 90/Dream 90 Seymour Duncan Phat Cat
There are others...just google "humbucker-sized P-90s." 3/28/2008 12:11:27 PM |

so, with my government rebate, im finally buying a quality speaker cabinet like ive been talking about doing for awhile. got my dream metal guitar, got one of my two dream metal amp heads, the main piece missing is a top of the line speaker cabinet to replace my peavey cabinet.
I am looking for a 4x12 and currently have the following on my list:
Mesa - im running a mesa dual rec as my head and i trust mesa. i need to look into the difference in sound between the standard and the oversized mesa cabs.
Orange - Generally not considered a metal amp but with V30s and the orange name I think it would sound great.
Marshall - its been hit or miss with me when using marshall cabs. some seemed dull and others seemed great.
Framus - Ive heard great things about these even though ive only had limited access myself.

Framus, Diezel or ENGL or just go with Avatars like everyone else. Good luck finding one of these within 500 miles, especially Diezel lol.

^^^ yea. There are some relatively close Avatars for sale but ive never used them. However, the price for a new one, if this is the site: http://www.avatarspeakers.com/ , is amazing. Under guitar cabs, contemporary, 412s, the custom order is pretty cool. Tell me more about these.
Ive also ran across Port City Wave Cabinets: http://www.portcityamps.com/wave3.html#
The main guitar forum I read directed me to them as another option to consider. Theyve gotten good reviews from what Ive heard but I think theyd be hard to find to try myself before buying.

Basically you can customize them however you want, and thats all there is to avatar.
i don't know much about durability (i mean anything that isn't made in germany is unreliable amirite?), but they've got celestions so whatever. Don't drop them out of are car on the highway, like you would with your german amps.

about avatar, sounds cool. I would be moving mine around a lot, and they dont come with casters, but they are a great price for a new cabinet.
However there are several brands that you can get used that are tanks. Mesa's hold up great, Oranges do as well, both tanks.
And about the link, someone recommended splawn to me yesterday actually. if it hasnt sold before i get up there again i would love to try it out. not v30s but still ive heard good things about them after reading online yesterday.
Thx U
i almost wonder if itd be worth replacing the 2 governors it look like it has and putting 2 V30s in with the 2 Eminence GT-75s in there.

i don't even know, i'd have to get my folks to check out, maybe give me the serial number.
Thanks, the parker sounds like it has glass strings on it, its unlike anything i've ever heard. I don't play it much anymore, but i have a hard time parting with it.
i'll probably move the rickenbacker into the main spot for the next tour, pretty much why i bought it. The strat sounds amazing in the studio, but its action has crept up over the years and my hands get really tired after playing it all night. 4/10/2008 9:41:32 PM |

I've always loved the look of the 330 Ric, but the neck is just too weird for me.
In other news, I played one of the chambered Reverends that has three P-90s (quacking P-90s in positions 2/4 ftw) and fucking LOVED it. I think it can replace my Tele and my Sorrento in one package. The only downside is that the really sweet metallic blue only comes with a rosewood fretboard, and I'd like to stay with maple for the Tele-ish kind of vibe. 4/10/2008 10:59:54 PM |

The fretboard is really high off the body and is lacquered even though it's rosewood...just a weird feel for me.
I have no problem with rosewood boards, btw, but this guitar is a nice mix between an SG Junior and a Strat, and I think that the rosewood board might mellow it out a little more than I'd like. The one I tried was very snappy and bright as a guitar but the P-90s gave it a nice crunch. 4/11/2008 1:23:57 PM |

i like the laquer. The neck is a bit thicker than the gibsons, but the action is really smooth and i'm getting a nice bright tone from my vox ac-30. i have the bass turned way down, sounds amazing.
i tend to play guitars with the fretboard off the body more, playing rythym in a 60s garage rock band, tends to work better for me. 4/11/2008 8:12:15 PM |

so far i can dial in MBV-like guitar drone with the early reflections reverse reverb, and i also found some great slowdive-like hall reverbs. its a shoegazer's dream come true until i can afford the real stuff. still, one fucking sick rack unit.
it has stereo out so right now i have the left output going to one amp, and the right output going through a slow-speed tremolo to a 2nd amp to emulate the stereo panning/volume swells on 'to here knows when', where quiet=mono, loud=stereo

look at his finger position vs the tone.
upon further review i think he's just somehow playing the equivalent of pinch harmonics while hammering on. 4/14/2008 6:38:19 PM |
