The best thing I find for sea sickness:

Get at least 6-7 hours sleep. That means going to bed at like 9.
Eat breakfast! Whole foods, and some slow digesting.
Stay out of a place you can't see out of...i.e the head. You lose the ability to see the horizon, you will lose your lunch.
If you are getting queasy, crystallized ginger works wonders.

Sometimes getting sick just can't be avoided. I've gotten sick a couple of times, and its awful.

Also, where are you guys fishing out of? And as far as lures and such, depends on what fish you are targeting.

small spanish and bluefish will make good bait also

use a three hook live bait rig on 5 wire

since the spanish will usually die pretty quick in the livewell drop those down on a downrigger but fish the blues on any of your top lines (short, med, long, prop wash) and they should get hit

it's always nice to have a selection of bait sizes to see whats working, be sure to stop at some bouys and jig up some smaller baits like cigar minnows to go along with the pogies, and bigger bait fish, I've seen some sail fish guys fish big baits all day long while the guys fishing sardines catch the fish

if you go offshore pretty good you have a good chance of catching a nice wahoo to go along with some big gaffer mahi this time of year

good luck yo

My brother has had great success with the patch for seasickness. I think you need a prescription, but he hasn't gotten sick with it yet and used to every single time.

Can't wait til we can go out again. I'm going to replace my sonar on my boat and try to fish the deeper 100-120' water again and see if I fare any better. First or second weekend in June is the next time I can go out.

where might i find crystallized ginger b/w rocky mount and emerald isle? i was planning on take ginger ale too. whole foods? you like whole grains or what exactly?

we are fishing out of the previously mentioned smaller-than-35' center console boat. there is a head within the console. if i had to guess the length of the boat i'd say...uh...25'.

i think it's a 25' wellcraft (252 fisherman).

What's scary is going after sails, wahoo, or dolphin in that this time of year.

Hope you get calm seas.

i'm going to be fishing from the bank of the potomac river this weekend (girlfriend has a house on the river, not exactly sure of the location) and was wondering if stripers can be caught from the bank, and what else do I need to be fishing for?
thanks

Tuna fishing was out of control this afternoon. Tomorrow is probably going to be slow, just because we are fishing. In other news, I should be in bed

You wouldnt catch me going more than 5-10 miles out in anything like that 21' boat.

I know people do it and come back safely, but with only one engine, im guessing no radar or EPIRB, I personally wouldnt be caught dead somewhere where I couldnt see land in that boat.

I made all those suggestions about getting sick and I got sick as a dog today . First time I have ever puked on a boat. I was dry heaving when a rod got slammed so I ended up sucking it up, fighting and catching a tuna and then puking my guts out. Spent most of the day 'napping.'

The total:

1 Gaffer Mahi
3-5 Yellowfin Tuna

We are thinking of going tomorrow, but I still feel like ass.

went down to masonboro in my neighbors boat (not mine ) the past 2 days. beautiful weather, would have been out 30 miles easily today in ours...anyways, ended up with a bunch of spanish, between 40-50, needless to say we have tons of fish sandwiches to eat. all caught on a mcdonalds straw rigs on top, mackerel rigs on planers, and clarkspoons on planers. caught blues as well. saw a few cobia cruising on the surface as well...only a matter of time before they are here in full force at the cape

Heading to Ocracoke Island tomorrow for a week of inside fishing.

We're hoping for lots of spanish/blues. What is the mcdonald's straw rig? We always used a silver/green/pink spoon.

Fished Sunday as well. Has two gaffers come tight within 10 minutes of the lines being out. Then we heard of a solid Big Eye bite just north of us so we picked up and ran. Withing moments of putting out the lines the rigger gets hammered and the reel just starts screaming and peeling line. I'm clearing lines as fast as possible and we have two boats withing 50 yards to the Port and Starboard of us so we can't turn towards the fish. The reel is still singing and there is less than 150 yards of line left (out of like 800+) so I turn it to full power to try and stop the run. Bad move! The line pops

No more bites the rest of the day.

trolling is not for me.

my brother, his friend, and my dad went out on saturday (in the cold and rain) and caught 16 spanish mackerel about 3 miles off.

Fumbler, my brother, his friend, my dad, and i went on sunday and caught 1 king mackerel (and had 2 bites) about 12 miles out. a shark followed our bait for a little bit but disappeared. we also found a spiderman playground ball, a really nice frisbee, and a couple of balloons. we came back in within a couple miles of shore and caught 1 spanish mackerel and 3 bluefish. 3 dolphins (the flipper kind) came within 15-20' of the boat to see what we were doing and we watched a big skate sneak up on these old ppl in another boat. there were millions of cannonball jellyfish everywhere too, a lot of them with little spider crabs attached.

slow trolling is boring and doesn't feel like real fishing to me. i like feeling the fish bite, not letting the boat do the fishing for me. i also had to work way to hard at not being sick that i couldn't really do/enjoy anything else.

We were off of Emerald Isle.

Trolling blows. I also like feeling the fish take the bait. Trolling is like driving your pickup to a deer stand and waiting for the deer to pop out on a food plot before blasting it with a magnum rifle.
I'd rather catch shad by casting and retrieving than troll for kings.
I guess the part that sucked the most was the people we were with had no interest in anything but trolling.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you catch something while trolling then wouldn't it be a good idea to drift and work that spot rather than waste your time trolling some more?

Yesterday i went out with se7entythree's brother and friend. We fished the bogue inlet and I caught a small flounder and a spanish mackerel. Her brother caught a small shark.

All in all the fishing sucked.

BTW, the seas weren't too bad in that 21' boat. Going out of the inlet was the roughest, but once we were out in the open it was fairly calm. It's still too much rolling left and right for my tastes, especially in the wake of other boats.

The thing about stopping and working a spot is that many fish like kings and spanish like dead baits or fast moving baits. Also, if the fish aren't working the surface than its hard to work an area. I haven't nearly caught as many fish just sitting there vs. Trolling

went outta atlantic beach this weekend caught about a dozen spanish and a few blues trolling along the sholes. i'm headed out to falls tomorrow.... anyone got good tips for falls? i've fished a few lakes but not falls. I'm not a hard core about any one type of fishing so i know a lil bout a lot. most of my fishin has been bass fishin around farm ponds and a few lakes. but hell if there is a hole of water i'll put a hook in it.

yea went to the wrightsville beach and caught 10 spanish trolling around ar370. It was my first time fishing/trolling for them and I got to say the action is quite fun to watch but like Fumbler said something felt wrong with not fighting the fish. I just need to catch a king which is a different ball game.

Couldn't find anyone to go on short notice so it was just me and my ole man. So I hate to mate as well as reel.

Planned to fish way south near Hatteras to mug up some Mahi's. On our way out we found a scattered weed line in about 120 foot of water but its almost 78 degrees. I throw a bass assassin in on a spinning rod and wham! First gaffer is in the boat. So we do that one more time and decided to throw out the spread and see what we can stir up.

The action was pretty constant all day. I would set out the spread (only 6 lines for this type of fishing) and we would get a fish on. I didn't get one second to relax all day. The weed line breaks up when wind shifts about 2pm so we decide to make one last pass and wham a big bull hits crashes a line and then two more lines go off. I'm asses and elbows because its just me to clear lines and crank in fish. Once I clear, I hand a rod to my ole man. Come to find out that the bull had eaten two baits so we were both fighting the bull as I was also fighting the cow. We boat both fish and its up being the biggest mahi we've caught. No citation though! (5lbs light).

Total: 13 Gaffers, 5-30lbs. Pics are in my gallery.
