Yeah, lots of heavier games in there.
Above and Below has amazing art. The game is arguably too short. 7 rounds with 4 players and 6 rounds with 2-3. In a 4 player game the 4th player gets the short end of the stick. I think I'd play it again more for the art than the gameplay. It's a game I'd pick up to complete a coolstuff or funagain order to get free shipping, but I think the game is between $40 and $70 depending on where you look.
Wombat Rescue has a number of variants to the rules. The default game has you place the modular board up with no gaps or holes in the board. We played with large holes in the board which hindered movement. Seemed like a lot of ways to vary it, and turns stayed relatively shorter.
Troyes was probably the hardest to get the rules correct. The instructions were extremely lacking, but when we finally got it down there were just enough turns to try and focus on your hidden victory card and maybe decipher one of the other players hidden victory cards. Buying other players actions was also relatively unique. Hopefully they can put in an update on the rulebook and some of the gameplay tweaks similar to what they did with Mysterium. 1/13/2016 10:09:25 AM |

I've been playing these games for a while now, and dipping into the design side. So I've started designing board games, worked on some last year but no games signed by a publisher yet.
BTW, Wombat Rescue is designed by a guy from Raleigh/Cary. 1/13/2016 12:01:27 PM |

Yeah, a couple of the guys in the area do demos for Z-Man, and another writes for BGG.
They tried out wombat rescue not too long ago and have passed it along in the group. 1/13/2016 12:18:05 PM |

2016 is gonna be the Year of Heavy Cardboard for me. Preordered the reprint of The Great Zimbabwe and the P500 for 1846, which will also be my first real 18xx game. So psyched, just have to find people who actually want to play these. 2/16/2016 12:56:39 PM |

Dixit is a lot of fun, but you need to know the people that you are playing with pretty well to get the best experience. If you have mysterium you can also use dixit cards to give you more variety 9/3/2016 8:22:06 PM |

I've started playing online Diplomacy. An expert player of the game did a video review on Youtube of the face-to-face top board from the World Diplomacy Championship earlier this year turn-by-turn, also including videos of people's negotiations with one another between turns, which is cool to see the backstabbing taking place. Looks like it'd be fun to try although I see how it can fray nerves and wear you down.
Apparently a big tournament for it is held in Chapel Hill every year. 12/7/2016 1:37:08 PM |

Where is a good place to sell a bunch of games? I have about 20 I'm trying to sell and not sure the best way to do it. I could just post it all on eBay I guess but was wondering if there was something better. Just in case any of you are interested, here is the list:
Citadels Summoner Wars One Night Ultimate Werewolf Ultimate Werewolf Smallworld Tragedy Looper Dead of Winter Quarto Nexus Ops (original release) Star Wars Pictopia Quarriors Bang the Bullet! What the Face Killer Bunnies Pandemic Red November Thunderstone Advance Vegas Showdown Cube Quest Cash n' Guns
Most of them are barely played, which is why I'm getting rid of them. Have sat on my shelf for years. 7/3/2017 10:59:45 PM |

eBay or boardgamegeek market are easiest. If you don't mind trading, I highly recommend looking into math trades on bgg. 7/3/2017 11:33:19 PM |

In unrelated news: I picked up Terraforming Mars recently. Big hit among my friends so far. 7/7/2017 7:47:33 AM |

^^ very much a fan of terraforming Mars. Probably my favorite recent game though is Clank! Really got a great blend of deck builder with dungeon crawl. Also like scythe, but won't play it with more than 4/5 ever again. Did a 7 player game and it was terrible. Also picked up the gamer monopoly last week, which is a cute roll and move with Mario kart mechanics. Definitely something I can play with my niece and nephew that still appeals to other gamers even though it's almost 100% luck. My BGG list is getting way too long, probably time to start selling some games too 7/7/2017 7:58:20 PM |

^^^ You'll be amazed how often in a real game you have your opponent completely cornered and you're looking forward to a straightforward win in a race, and your opponent then rolls 3 doubles in a row.

Re: math trades
On BGG someone makes a monthly list that you can add games to. That list syncs to a site called the Online Wants List Generator (olwlg). After a designated time you create a want list, which is basically a giant list of games you would trade for. At the deadline, a computer takes all lists and generates trades.
For example, let's say I am tired of Agricola. I add it to the list and describe it's condition. After a certain number of days the geeklist syncs to the olwlg and I can create a want list. In my list I say that I would take Brass or Power Grid for my copy of Agricola ( rinse and repeat for other games you may have added). At the deadline the computer says I ship Agricola to user X. User Y sends me a copy of Power Grid.
Sometimes you get a trade. Sometimes you don't but it is better than direct trades since, in my example, user X didn't need to have power grid or brass and user y didn't need to want Agricola. It is a giant circle trade. The only cost is time ( and shipping obv)

We picked up Battlesheep last month and are enjoying it with my 8 year old daughter. It's pretty simple as it only has a couple of rules, but there is a lot of strategy to it.
She actually beat us her first game. 7/14/2017 8:49:54 AM |

Re math trade. There is no limit. You can ASK for whatever you want but you likely will only get "fair" trades given that others can pick what they are willing to receive.
I have gotten a few decent deals along the way. Recently I traded a 30 dollar game (suburbia) or 6 10-25 (hey that's my fish, the grizzled, innovation, and then we held hands, codenames, patchwork) dollar games. On the surface that's a great deal for me but most of the smaller games aren't highly desired or would be expensive to ship solo so ppl are willing to trade down. I actually prefer getting fillers on the cheap this way, it just takes entering a lot of trades and being patient. Much more often I trade even. 8/10/2017 6:42:31 PM |

slackerb All American 5093 Posts user info edit post |
It is an "I Split, You Choose" game so it uses the same base mechanic.
Sundae Split however has a bluffing element, facedown cards, different scoring, and plays much quicker and is much smaller than those games.
NY Slice beat me to market just a short while before mine made it. Keep in mind these projects are years in the making, often another "similar" game comes out around the same time.
