Wow, if you think Hickson ruined the team, you didn't watch the team at all. He merely did what he was told. Put the blame on Sidney, put the blame on Costner and McCauley for not showing up, put the blame on our lack of a PG....but don't put the blame on the one guy who consistently showed up and did what he was told to do.
Best of luck to him. I hope he does well and represents us well.6/7/2008 12:49:07 PM |

If you think Hickson consistently showed up this year then you weren't paying attention, what about the 9 point 5 turnover outing vs. South Carolina or the 7 point 4 turnover outing vs Virginia, sure he padded his stats with 30 plus point games against the likes of William & Mary and Western Carolina, but he was anything but consistent6/7/2008 1:13:45 PM |

Hickson's presence ruined the team
whether its Hickson's fault of Lowe's fault
we would have been better off without him
he wasn't that impressive when it matter the most
hell, didn't Sid pull him out for half a game because he wasn't doing shit? 6/7/2008 1:27:14 PM |

I wouldn't give a fuck either if I had to play with Hickson on the team, knowing he was just using this as a stepping stone to the next level
Hickson didn't score points to help the team win, he scored points to boost himself
if Hickson didn't give a shit about the team, why should the team give a shit about Hickson? 6/7/2008 2:13:33 PM |

^how long have you known jj? did yall grow up together? you act like you know the guy or he is some kind of bad guy, etc. we dont know this guy just because we see him suit up and play basketball. I can see your point of view but to think he is some kind of parasite that cared nothing about his team is jumping to conclusions based on watching this guy run around with a basketball. you have no idea what's really going through his head so how can you judge? sure, he wasn't the second coming of DT but who is? He is living his life and moving on to the NBA like everyone with half a brain new he would probably do regardless of what his production was like in college. 6/7/2008 2:25:26 PM |

he wasn't a good fit for State
everyone talks about the awesome type of recruits we're gonna get now that Lowe is here and how he has NBA experience and can use that to recruit players
well, it looks like he did just that
College basketball is a team sport and you need everybody working together towards trying to make the team be the best it can be. Obviously Hickson didn't fit into that type of mold since the rest of the team didn't buy into the direction that Lowe was trying to go.
As far as the NC State basketball program is concerned...we would have been better without Hickson 6/7/2008 2:35:04 PM |

well considering that Kansas, Memphis, Xavier and UCLA all played mostly sophomores, juniors and seniors (with the obvious exceptions of Rose and Love) I would have to disagree, one and dones really only have a significant impact on teams that already have a strong supporting cast.

how in the fuck can anyone seriously think, based on what we saw last season, that JJ will be 'nasty' in the NBA? He wasnt even 'nasty' in the NCAA... 6/8/2008 2:58:34 PM |

jj obviously has a lot of potential , if you watched any of our games. hes cashing in on that potential now while he still can. If you seriously think that JJ, the best and most consistent player on our team, was the problem, you are a fucking idiot. JJ showed flashes of dominance, and youre an idiot DROD if you don't think theres a chance he could be nasty in the nba and he wasnt nasty sometimes in college. You wouldve probably sucked his dick the day he scored 31 against william and mary. 6/8/2008 7:52:48 PM |

I still can't believe there are people out there that don't understand how not having a point guard affects the productivity of a big man, that and we weren't running that much, which is Hickson's style anyway. Considering the conditions of our guard play (being the wrost in the ACC), I'd think Hickson will be loked at as one of the top five players in this draft in three years, instant impact in the NBA. 6/8/2008 8:21:32 PM |
DROD900 All American 24658 Posts user info edit post |
I never said that JJ will never be good in the NBA, I just dont think he's ready to go right now, and I absolutely do not think that anything he did last season made him look like he will be nasty right away
and this is just retarded, and yet a perfect example of why he wont be an instant impact in the nba
Quote : | "You wouldve probably sucked his dick the day he scored 31 against william and mary" |
william and mary? how many people have run the score up on william and mary? how about how he only scored 4 points against Presbyterian, or 9 on South Carolina, etc.? He did show flashes of greatness at times, but like I said earlier, he will get absolutely schooled by Amare Stoudamire, or any other starting C, PF, or SF in the league
he might develop into a great player, but I think he still has a lot to prove before I'll say that he is going to be nasty in the nba, or even an impact player right away6/8/2008 9:47:05 PM |

if u look at the stats, jj has almost exactly the same stats as chris bosh in his year at GT. im not saying hickson will be as good as bosh, but if he had a decent team around him like gt, hed be getting way more hype and not so much bullshit from his own fans. hes got all the tools to succeed in the nba. i never said he would be an instant impact in the nba, but scoring 31 points against anybody in your first college game is a great start, no matter who it is against. He had like 5 games where he didnt score over 10 points, if that isnt consistency then i dont know what is. 6/8/2008 10:17:47 PM |
armorfrsleep All American 7289 Posts user info edit post |
Sure he scored 31 against William & Mary but he also had the 4 point, 1 rebound, 2 turnover performance against Presbyterian (not to mention it's fucking William & Mary). Considering he was our #1 offensive option the entire year and thus got the ball a large percentage of the possessions, his performances were often underwhelming. Also, you can't blame his inconsistent rebounding on the poor guard play. 6/9/2008 12:57:37 AM |

Ishua Benjamin scored 28 in his first game and Ivan Wagner scored like 27 in his first game too. The former was nothing but a role player on crappy teams. The latter transfered and was never heard from again.6/9/2008 4:01:42 AM |

I'm not going to argue about this anymore because I really do wish him the best at the next level, I just dont think that he is ready yet based on what I saw. Does that mean he will never be a star in the NBA? Absolutely not.
He couldve used this next year to round out his game and be a more polished prospect. At this point I think that most teams feel that he is more of a project draft pick than a sure fire impact player 6/9/2008 8:26:11 AM |

Quote : | "Raleigh, N.C. – N.C. State center J.J. Hickson has signed with an agent and will remain in the 2008 NBA Draft.
The NBA Draft will be held June 26.
“Getting to the NBA has always been a dream of mine,” said Hickson. “I want to thank Coach Lowe and everybody associated with N.C. State for all that they have done for me.”
“After going through several workouts with NBA teams, J.J. received very positive feedback and feels this is a great opportunity for him to be drafted,” said N.C.
