anyone see obama interview with anderson cooper?

AC: Some Republican critics say, you don’t have the experience to handle a situation like this [Hurricane Gustav]. They’ve in fact said that Governor Palin has more executive experience as mayor of a small town and as governor of a big state like Alaska. What’s your response?

BO: Well, you know, my understanding is that, uh, Governor Palin’s town of Wasilly [sic] has, uh, 50 employees, uh, uh, we’ve got 2500, uh, in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. Uh, uh, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month. Uh, so I think that, uh, our ability to manage large systems, uh, and to, uh, execute, uh, I think has been made clear over the last couple of years. Uh, and certainly, in terms of, uh, the legislation that I’ve passed just dealing with this issue post-Katrina, uh, of how we handle emergency management. The fact that, uh, many of my recommendations were adopted and are being put in place, uh, as we speak indicates to extent to which we can provide the kinds of support and good service that the American people expect.

LOL, what a fucking joke. His supporters eat this shit up too. I hope he keeps talking.

^^let alone the fact that he only acknowledges that she was mayor and refers to the people and budget of a small town in Alaska...almost completely oblivious to the fact that she was also governor of a state...I think the state of Alaska has more than "uh, 50 employees, uh, uh"

dnl, I think around the 26th of this month is the first debate.

Its pretty cute how obama talks about her experience as mayor of a little town, when he compares it to his campaign. But leaves out her experience as governor with over 25k state employees and a 9Billion dollar budget. If anderson had some balls that would have been his followup, but he was probably getting a headache from all the "uhs" and didnt want to follow up.

a state that always operates a freaking surplus. Her job of running alaska is no more impressive than a mayor of any middle sized city in america.

^haha, keep sticking to that.

Here is a good follow up:

But the main point here is that Obama didn’t really answer the question, and he set up a straw man argument in response to Cooper. Governor Palin is, well, governor, and not currently the mayor of Wasila. As Governor, Palin operates a $9 billion budget, and manages $13 billion in revenue. Furthermore, she runs a government that employs 25,000 people. Obama blithely pretends that she’s still the mayor of “Wasilly” in order to boost himself.

However, running for office isn’t executive experience, for one good reason: Obama isn’t the campaign manager. He has a CEO actually running the campaign, handling the budget, and managing the people while Obama makes the speeches.

$9 Billion is pocket change. Many large corporations have monthly budgets this large.

In all honesty i think McCain needs to reconsider. She has been on the ticket for 2 days and ALREADY the skeletons are spilling out.

"Palin disclosures raise questions about vetting
Alaskans say no one from McCain camp asked them about eventual VP pick

By Elisabeth Bumiller
updated 11:10 p.m. ET, Mon., Sept. 1, 2008

ST. PAUL - A series of disclosures about Gov. Sarah Palin, Senator John McCain’s choice as running mate, called into question on Monday how thoroughly Mr. McCain had examined her background before putting her on the Republican presidential ticket.

On Monday morning, Ms. Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement saying that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, was five months pregnant and that she intended to marry the father.

Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge. "

^^^A couple of websites have suggested that this obvious lack of vetting & all these skeletons/scandals are so that they can pull a bait and switch like Bush did with Harriet Myers on the supreme court. Using an unqualified person first to expend the democrats political capital taking them down, the replace them with an even more conservative guy.

it's conversational prose, lol. I mean shit, if I transcribed you talking conversationally and actually took the time to write down all of your mannerisms I'd probably get a butt scratch or an eaten booger on there not to mention a shit load of speech patternisms.

Have you heard McCain field a sentence he doesn't want to answer? The guy has more uhhs in one sentence than Obama has, not to mention followed up with a pedo-smile and a hearty 'I'll have my staff get back to you on that'.

Give me a fucking break man, you guys are sad.

I think McCain went with a washington outsider/reformer/woman. Would I have preferred romney? yes. But im pretty happy with the pick, much better than liberman or another senator. imo

Im wanting to hear more from Palin, like most people im sure.

Cmon guys, sell me your coastal land at 5 cents on the dollar...

it's gonna be worthless soon anyways because of rising ocean levels. 5% is a generous offer under those circumstances.

I've said it in this thread or maybe it was the other.

- I think much like Obama she lacks XP
- I do not approve of her christian right-wing moonbat conservative family value platform (i.e pro-life, abstinence only education, drugs r bad ummm k)
- I beleive she much like Bush is to buddy buddy with Big Oil
- I think McCain picked her more as a tokenism rather than actually being qualified more for the job. As someone else said there are plenty of OTHER female GOPs more qualified.
- Her background kinda reminds me of Dick Cheney

Does it not seem hypocritical to endorse abstience only sex-ed and family values yet her own 17 yr old daughter got pregnant. Had this been Obama's daughter; I guarantee the GOP would have been lighting up a shit storm. At least though Obama does not rally the war horn for family christian values. Not that i support Obama; but i now feel almost disaffected from McCain who i supported fiercely in months past.

Hur,

1. She has more experience than obama
2. I can understand that
3. I dont believe this to be true. She increased taxes on big oil. She wants to drill in anwr, which would bring in more money to her state. imo. It would also help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I think that is a big issue this election.
4. I can agree with this point. I think she was more attractive, no pun, to mccain bc she is viewed as a washington outsider who fought against her own party when she thought it was corrupt. Plus she is a social conservative which should solidify his base.
5. I dont know how you can compare her to dick cheney.

To your point about the daughter, no it does not seem hypocritical. There is no evidence to show what the daughter was taught by her parents. I think both should be taught in schools, but we should not be counting on high schools to educate our kids about safe sex or abstinence, it should be the parents who introduce this. You can have great families whose children make mistakes and poor choices that affect thier lives.

I do think one thing the mccain campaign is doing wrong right now is not putting Palin out in front of cameras. She is an unknown and needs to be talking to people, bc, right now, like it or not, most americans know her as the lady VP pick who has a pregnant daughter. Still plenty of time, but she needs to get on the air. imo

funny, the people who say "McCain will be 4 more years of Bush" aren't ignored, while their assertion is equally as ridiculous as implying that Obama will be another 4 more years of Bush (although from another perspective, another R or D getting elected will be another 4 years of washington politics as usual)

"Obama advisers and surrogates have also linked Palin to conservative former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. An Associated Press story from Alaska, dated July 17, 1999, states that Palin, then the mayor of the small town of Wasilla, was wearing a Buchanan button during a Buchanan visit to Alaska.

The Miami Herald this week quoted an e-mail from Obama Florida spokesman Mark Bubriski that stated: "Palin was a supporter of Pat Buchanan, a right-winger or as many Jews call him: a Nazi sympathizer.""

My support has been for McCain so in my opinion it is irrelevant if she has more XP than obama. In absolute terms
she still lacks the XP i deem necessary espicially (even though unlikly) the odds of her having to step up to
commander in cheif are higher than past presidents. Even if for a couple weeks for a routine medical operation.

This is like saying: "Well Nikita Khrushchev is not quite as bad of a dictator as Stalin; therefore i would rather him be our leader!
While in reality both men were guilty on absolute terms of various gross human rights violations.

“My understanding is that Gov. Palin’s town, Wassilla, has I think 50 employees. We've got 2500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe 12 million dollars a year – we have a budget of about three times that just for the month,” Obama responded.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/31/us/politics/31reconstruct.html?_r=3&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Summary: McCain wanted to pick Lieberman, but due to pressure from the religious right, he picked Palin, who's very far to the right.

HUR brought up a good question, which is one that immediately came to my mind as well:

What exactly will the religious right do if McCain picked Liebermann? Jump on the Obama train? That makes no sense...

^^ Making fun of the way someone talks is lame, but this isn't even that good of an attack. The guy is an amazing speaker, and just because he adds an "uh" or a pause every few words is nothing to attack someone over. He's just trying to make sure he picks the right words so he doesn't say retarded shit like "internets" or "strategery."
