Madams Organ is weird. Also, the Gold Cup is this weekend. I'll be studying, but if I wasn't I'd definitely be there.

I'm thinking about relocating closer to the beltway on the east side of DC. Anyone have any recommendations on where to look? I'm currently look at Oxon Hill, Accokeek, and Largo.

So there is a very strong possibility that I will be moving to the area in the not so distant future and I have no idea where to start looking for housing. My job will likely be in the Dunn Loring area. Any recommendations on areas to look? The wife will likely be trying to find work closer to DC if that makes a difference.

All depends on what you can afford. Arlington is great and in a good location between Dunn Loring (which I never knew was a town -- thought it was only a metro stop name) and DC, but it costs $$ to live there, at least in a good area anyway.

Dunn Loring is actually a pretty good spot, and your wife would be able to take the metro into DC. Arlington is nice as well since that would be a reverse commute, but as mentioned, there, Falls Church and the District are much more expensive.

Glad work is telecommute friendly, hopefully in the future they will increase the number of days again (right now 3 days a week). Live in NOVA and commute to DC.

"I'm a DC resident (for now) and I parked on the street Friday evening legally in my own residential zone. There were no "emergency no parking" signs posted anywhere. Saturday morning they relocated (towed) my car two blocks down the street and slapped two tickets on the windshield for parking in an "emergency no parking" zone. $150. I'm guessing they put the signs up Saturday morning and towed my car a few hours (minutes?) later.

I'm going to contest the tickets but I can't prove that the signs weren't there -- can't prove a negative. Did I just get dicked by DC parking enforcement or do I have a chance at fighting this?"

Update: They dropped the tickets because I sent them pictures after they took the temp signs down and said "See? No signs!" lol

I'll be working for the G so not raking in the big bucks but we will be working with two incomes and my job will offer substantial overtime opportunities.

What type of price range would a 2br at ~800sf run in the falls church / arlington area?

Luckily I will be in the area for training in July so I plan to do quite a bit of househunting then.

I sit on an orange line train for ~24 minutes (Eastern Market -> Ballston). Fuck driving to work.

we're in Clarendon/Courthouse in Arlington. i believe most 2br on the metro line can run about $2600+ but it all depends on how new of a space you want and/or storage/closet space. If you want to live at a good location on the metro (literally the apartment is on the metro stop), check out Archstone at Virginia Square (although now it's owned by Equity Apartments).

We looked and loved the location but wanted a bigger/more updated kitchen and settled in a brand new apartment about a 10 minute walk from the metro (both Clarendon and Courthouse). I take the bus to work (5 minutes to Rosslyn) and my husband is about 5 minutes from the office as well so the location worked out really well for us.

Living right on the metro is nice but the bus system in DC/Arlington is also really good. I sold my car prior to moving and rely on public transportation/walking to get around and haven't had any major issues...yet.

^ lol. one of these days i'll come in and do a HR-related meeting.

Fragers

Someone else's photo, but the building I live in. By the time I got home the smoke was so heavy I didn't think it was overly wise to head up to the roof.

if you find anything like that, holla. we have a 2 br in silver spring that's 2200 (including 1 parking space). granted it's over 1100 sqft, new construction, top floor, and high end finishes. but still. it's absurd up here. already looking at a job in richmond because of the cost of living in DC. i love the city, but it's out of control

you can get a monthly payment much lower by buying vs renting. year on year gains seem to be high enough to offset the money wasted in HOA/condo fees

While I am happy to see something finally come by way of investigation into corrupt DC politics.... I don't think it will have any long term effects. DC politics have always been corrupt, and always will be in my opinion. And DC isn't alone... This is something that plagues the politics of nearly every large city.
