I actually dont think Pittsburgh is a good team, no
And according to those ratings, NC State is 73rd...below Duke (and William & Mary)
So pick one. Either we're a worse team than Duke or we lost to a terrible Duke team. Regardless, TOB better get his ass in gear

what hurts the most is the fact that we've played such an incredibly weak schedule. If we had a tough schedule like Miami we could at least say "well the schedule was impossible" but we've played 5 very shitty teams thus far and 2 pretty decent teams. we have one more non-shitty team left on our schedule. There was no excuse for more than 4 losses coming into the season. Now it looks like we might not get more than 4 wins. 10/17/2009 9:26:12 PM |

Folks on PP making the case that amato was better than TOB
Largest Margin of Loss since start of 2000 season: 1) 44, 58-14 loss to FSU in 2000 (Amato)*** National champions 2) 37, 37-0 loss to Maryland in 2007 (TOB) 3) 34, 34-0 loss to South Carolina in 2008 (TOB) 4) 32, 52-20 loss to BC on Saturday (TOB) 5) 31, 41-10 loss to S. Florida in 2008 (TOB)
Amato failed to recruit QB, OL, and assistants who could stay. During rivers, he had some damn good offensive players. 10/17/2009 11:51:29 PM |

On defense, I don't even know what to say. The fact that our DBs stay ten yards off the WR's on a 4th and short show just how incompetent the staff on that side of the ball is.
I understand that its the coordinator, but lets see who hired the coordinator...

You guys are just being ridiculous. This guy came here with absolutely nothing and he's done a good job moving us in the right direction.
Our defense just absolutely blows this year and we will get a new coordinator to fix that.
There is no way anyone can argue this guy is worse than Amato with a straight face.
Remember the time we were down by a touchdown to VT and Amato kicked a FG to cover the spread instead of trying to win the game? That guy was unbelievable 10/18/2009 12:13:21 PM |

What the fuck else is TOB supposed to say?
Are sports writers so lazy now they don't even bother to come up with their own questions? "Hey coach, can you answer these emails I got?"

All those nfl guys like pressley, young, morgan, irving, brown, and really good college players like our whole dline, michel, johnson, sutton, neal, eugene, baker, spencer, bowens, williams is much more than nothing. Not only was he left with nfl talent, he was left with a lot of good talent all around. Maybe everywhere except oline. We were picked as a sleeper to win the conference his first year because of the honeymoon effect with all the talent we had and this year because we brought back lots of talent and the best qb. Then you guys always say the experts know nothing. well how is it that a bunch of guys on here know more about football than the experts? why should I take your word over professionals? or even bc fans?
Quote : | "Our defense just absolutely blows this year and we will get a new coordinator to fix that." |
Even if our defense did actually suck people wise, we still should be able to find a way to stop duke, bc or wake. A staff can't concede early in the season that our defense sucks and we'll fix it next year. Adjustments have to be made during the season. All the blame can't be placed on the coordinator either. If a head coach has absolutly nothing to do with half of the game then he is a terrible head coach anyway.
Thats like if the economy went into a depression and obama said "its not my fault, just a bad treasury department, we'll replace them in 2012." and expected to be re-elected.
Quote : | "Remember the time we were down by a touchdown to VT and Amato kicked a FG to cover the spread instead of trying to win the game? That guy was unbelievable " |
Debateable. There was still loads of time left in the game and we had 4th and long against a great defense. Get the 3 now and let your best defense in the country get the ball back with a chnace to win.
Even if you tie the game in that situation, your best case scenario is ot but you're only going to send the other team into 2-minute mode and likely give up a fg with no time left anyway but with the lead they would likely still sit on the ball.10/18/2009 12:32:42 PM |

Remember the time OBrien lost a game that was close enough where he had to make a coaching decision like that? Oh wait, he gets his ass blown out by 20+ every other game
Amato is a clown but he once won 11 games, something TOB cant claim. And sure, he had Philip Rivers. TOB had Matt Ryan and now has Russell Wilson, still hasnt hit the double digits10/19/2009 1:39:08 AM |

Did you really just compare Russell Wilson to Matt Ryan and gasp Philip Rivers? 10/19/2009 1:47:34 AM |
tower All American 12280 Posts user info edit post |
I'm saying that the copout for Amato is "well, he had Rivers"
And that's fine. Chuck WAS a bad coach who inherited a QB and road his success for a few years before it it all fell apart after he left. He still managed to not fuck things up bad enough to get 11 wins during Philip's junior year
TOB can't even use a good QB as a crutch. He bolted from BC after Ryan's junior year, inherited Wilson here and still hasn't broke double digits. Are Wilson or even Ryan as good as Philip in my opinion? Fuck no, but a shitload of teams win 10+ games with worse QBs than either of them every year. And before we get into that retarded "OMG WE DESERVE CHAMPIONSHIPS" argument, I'm not even asking for Obrien to get 10 wins with Wilson. I sure as hell am asking for more than one division 1 win with him, though
