I hear ya...started my 30th week this week and the idea that there's only 10-ish more is

Babe has been getting much stronger in there. I'm starting to feel stronger punches and kicks, and can see the movement really well from the outside. He/she flipped or rolled over the other day and it was like a wave on my belly. I'm pretty sure I saw an arm the other day as well. Just freaky cool.

disclaimer: any of you people on here that know me personally, DO NOT talk about any of this to anyone else, especially my family. i want to surprise them later on.

in the next several months hopefully i can join your little club here. i start my last pack of bc pills on sunday & i started tapering off the other med i'm on yesterday. i'm nervous about the potential withdrawal symptoms bc apparently some people get really mean, but it's only temporary. we're both VERY excited. i can't believe this is really going on now. we've got a short list of names & i've already looked at strollers online. too early for that crap so i need to stop

for those of you who kept your parents or other people close to you in the dark about this stuff, how did you tell them? any elaborate schemes?

^congrats!! that's awesome. it's quite the adventure with such a tremendous reward.

As far as cool or clever ways to tell family, my favorite story is actually the way my older sister told us. Her and her husband came down to visit and they managed to convince everyone to play pictionary. We played a few regular rounds, then my sis and her husband get up to do their "word." They start drawing pregnancy related things, then my sister stands profile while my bro-in-law starts drawing arrows to her belly. It took a little while, but finally my mom stood up and screamed with excitement when she figured it out. Meanwhile my dad and I were still oblivious. Pretty funny story we still laugh about.

My wife and I did it with coinciding special occasion cards. My mom got a birthday card and pops-in-law got a father's day card that were signed by me, my wife and "Baby M." They both glanced over it at first, then did a double take and looked up at us like, "Seriously!?! yay!!"

Yeah, for the first one we just invited them out to dinner and gave them a card. That way we made sure they were sitting down first.

^ trying to conceive

We got pregnant last April so had Mother's Day prime for telling our parents (first grandchild in either family). I got my mom a funny mother's day card that had a crazy dressed up cat with something on the inside like "You are the best grandma ever!" and then we added "Well, at least you will be in about 8 more months!" We slid it in with all the other cards and gifts at our family mother's day get-together. She read it last (I usually write cards that make her cry so she reads them last) and at first glance she sort of chuckled thinking it was just a cute card then her face went pale and she just screamed like you had chopped off her foot. She couldn't even speak, just started waving the card and crying/laughing/screaming. It was priceless.

For my wife's mom we sent her a picture of the the pregnancy test (she's several states away) while talking on the phone to her and got the same hysterical reaction.

I heard the heartbeat for the first time today. Pretty amazing. Plus now that I'm at 12 weeks the M/S has subsided some. Yay!

I was too excited to wait to tell my parents and ended up doing it over the phone. So no good stories from me here. In hindsight I wish I would have gotten them a grandparents type gift. Either way, they were excited (they knew we were TTC).

we don't plan on telling them anything, unless it ends up taking FOREVER (knock on wood). idk, we'll just have to see. it's going to be kinda tough bc my mom's a nurse, so i'm very used to going to her about everything medical, and i work for my dad so they'll know when/if i'm off for a dr appt.

Got our 3D ultrasound pictures today.

Pretty awesome looking kid, plus confirmation that 1) There is definitely only one in there and 2) It definitely is a boy.

You could see him yawning to the point that he made me yawn. Not a big deal, just one of those things you kinda marvel at once you realized what happened.

It's gonna be hard i won't lie. Losing my salary is gonna require some major lifestyle changes...

Sometime around 8mos I will have to start looking for a part time job, so it's not a permanent thing by any means. But I'll be around for the most part.

Anyone here a SAHM that is paying for insurance from a third party company (not through spouses)? IF so any advice on good insurance companies that aren't ridiculously expensive? I am thinking of being a SAHM, but insurance through my husbands job is close to $700 a month for me and baby (they COMPLETELY cover him so it's free insurance for the acutal employee). That's been the major deterrent to keep me from considering it, because right now I am on my works insurance. Any advice would be awesome.

Up until now, I've been paying for my own insurance. My employer's insurance wasn't that great, and I couldn't get a maternity rider so I kept my own through BCBS. We did that bc hopping on my husband's would've been the same out of his paycheck for just me or adding me & a child (or 10). We're now in the process of switching me over to his and will add baby once here.

Keep in mind, I have/had a high deductible (another reason for my mid-pregnancy switch) and a maternity rider. I pay $260 per mo. Without the rider it would've been slightly over $100 monthly iirc. When I was shopping around for insurance, I could easily get a quote online to compare everything.

Yes...switching insurance mid-pregnancy gives me heartburn for anyone that might ask

44 days here and MISERABLE!

My feet and legs are insanely swollen. You can even leave dents in the skin which is sooo gross! BP is maintaining at a normal-high level (138/82) so I've been bumped up to weekly visits to the doctor now. Having my strep b and first cervical check on Monday.

Also on an even more pleasant, TMI note, I feel like their is a cinder block trying to push through my perineum. Not my vagina, not my anus. That wonderful area in between. Soooo much pressure and pain.

35 days left for us...our baby shower was yesterday too- two car loads full of stuff

I started reading through some of the 'shapes and colors' books. Good refresher courses folks, highly recommended

Actually it was interesting seeing some of the variations of vehicles in kids' books these days. I remember shit like planes and trains, but now they show you the finer variations in themes, like bullet, elevated, high speed & commuter rail trains.

i need some middle name help. first names are daisy for a girl and parker for a boy. daisy was my grandma's name & parker was my grandparents' last name. parker also happens to mean "park keeper" which keeps in line with our love for state/national parks, backpacking, & chris's job as a service forester & ranger. last name is liv.

3^ it was wonderful. my sister-in-law was the creativity behind the shower and she did some really great things. I'm trying to get photos off my husband's camera so I can complete/update my blog about it, but it seems there may be a problem. :-/

I hope I can get them off, but if not I may have to wait to see what everyone else took...

^^WOW! I feel her pain there, man. That is a big baby. I was told a few ounces more than that weight at 36 wks and mine ended up being 9lbs 15oz. LOVE HER! RUB HER FEET! RUB HER BACK! If you are not good at it and can get her one, GET HER A PRENATAL MASSAGE!!!! Groupon always has good deals on massages.

FYI- There are these shoes called skidders that I got Maya and I LOVE them. Such a great shoe for walkers and also for just regular wear. She has worn her's year round. There is a sale on them on zulilly.com if you don't want to wait for target to discount them.

Since I'm the incredible shrinking pregnant woman (I've lost in the neighborhood of 30 pounds this go round and still have 6-7 weeks to go.), I'll be having an ultrasound to check the baby's growth in 2 weeks. Then I'm down to weekly check ups.

My belly is HUGE and uncomfortable. I swear somedays that I'm going to look down and find this kid punching her way through my cervix. This last stretch is the longest part of the pregnancy.

so I have to share this story with yall

my classmate met a woman the other weekend... she looked like she was about to pop, and she was only 6 months along. She is 6'1" I believe, and her husband is 6'7". Their last child had to be induced a month and a half early because he weighed 11 POUNDS

She's only 6 months along right now and they're already talking about inducing her early again because this one will be EVEN BIGGER

hell to the naw

Well, the wifey is clearly not preggers anymore, but I wanted to check back in with all you expectant parents, wish you all the best, and shamelessly post pictures of my little guy. He'll be 4 weeks tomorrow, but it feels like just yesterday we were nervously and excitedly driving to WakeMed Cary!

So for all you trying to get pregnant out there... we had a great lecture this semester with a nationally known fertility doctor (he helped one of the bachelorettes get pregnant )

Anyway, he went over ovulation and when's the best time to get pregnant. Most people try to do it no matter what on the day of ovulation... when it fact, that's one of the worst times! A large group study found that hardly any women conceived when intercourse happened the day of ovulation, while a large number conceived when they had intercourse 2 days before ovulation. He also recommended couples trying to conceive had sex at least 8 times a week.
