I thought it was a pretty innocuous comment. Honestly, most everything I say on here is non-controversial. It's just that people don't like objective opinions about their team.

Everyone knows that this is a big year for Glennon and if he doesn't perform it will be widely accepted that we screwed up cutting Wilson last season.

Wilson was one of the elite QB's in all of football last year and was one of the most talked about players in the country. I can't be the only one here who recognizes that he was pretty good.

If we'd cut Philip Rivers because Marcus Stone threatened to transfer, I'm sure the reaction would be quite different from all of you.

Objective like "If we had RW last season, we would have won several more games and be ACC champions". Shut up.

And I'm sure that had NOTHING to do with the fact that he was on absolutely stacked offense with 2 tremendous HB's and practically a NFL O-line...

^^ I realize it's been said about a million times, but no one has pointed to anything that concretely says it. HD (and I know she's wrong often) says they count as an FCS team...

We had our best chance to win the ACC in 2010 at Maryland, and RW still couldn't get us there.

Maybe we would have won the BC game last season, but it wouldn't have mattered since Clemson had locked up the division that same weekend.

I don't think face's argument is that far off. Obviously he has to make a lot of assumptions about what RW would have done last year, but he is correct that Glennon played horrible against BC and Wake which were our two most disappointing losses last season and games we would have won with better QB play.

I agree too that it would have been better for us to have a great season last year and a suck ass one this year than a couple 7 to 8 win seasons. We cannot change the past and just need to hope that we can overcome our obvious issues at LB and WR this year. I am worried that the LB problems will be a huge deal especially since our D-line is not exactly stellar either.

I offer a fair dose of optimism when it's warranted. I said I thought we'd win last night.

The football team has some strengths this year but definite weakness at WR. LB doesn't worry me too much because it's one of the easiest positions to learn and really our defensive schemes are pretty easy on them. Just blitz every down and try not to fall down.

Finally explained why we only need six wins for bowl eligibility: http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/37256/updated-nc-state-needs-6-wins

Quote :
"
Updated: NC State needs 6 wins
By Heather Dinich

OK, here's the deal:

NC State needs SIX WINS for bowl eligibility, according to NC State Executive Senior Associate AD Chris Kingston.

I apologize for the confusion on this, but I was told last week by the ACC and NC State that the program needed seven wins. That answer came, though, before the Sun Belt released its 2012 schedule, and that is part of the answer in this convoluted mess.

All you need to know is the bottom line, which is six wins, but here's some background for those who are wondering why this is so confusing:

Not only is South Alabama's schedule part of the equation, but it also depends on South Alabama's opponents' classification.

According to the NCAA bylaws, in order for South Alabama to count toward NC State's bowl eligibility, it had to meet the following criteria:
•South Alabama had to be in its second year of transition AND
•Play at least 60 percent of its 12-game schedule against FBS opponents AND
•Five of those FBS opponents must be home games.

Quick: Look at South Alabama's schedule and find me the five FBS home games. Need help?
•FAU
•FIU
•Middle Tennessee
•Troy

The other two home games are UTSA and Nicholls State, both FCS programs. (Head hurt yet?)

I'll fast-forward: NichollsState meets the 90 percent scholarship average, so because South Alabama can count FCS opponent Nicholls State as an FBS win toward bowl eligibility (just like NC State can count The Citadel), Nicholls State counts as an FBS win in their scheduling, therefore NC State can count South Alabama.

There you have it: It all came down to Nicholls State.

Who knew?

You have your answer, though, six wins. My apologies for needing two tries to get it to you."

I think the people that weren't sure of how many wins we needed (like myself) just wanted an explaination. This is the first time I've seen it. It was not nearly as simple as USA being in their second transition year as was suggested before.

If you want a standaradized response, just say "you're wrong, we need 6 wins."

RW fucked up several game for us last year (Vtech, Clemson, ECU). Obviously our defense gave up some points in the ECU and Tech games, but the offense left plenty on the field as well and RW threw some costly interceptions. Clemson game just sucked.

So we probably could have one a game or two extra with him under center, but no way we would have an ACC championship with as shitty our defense was the first half of the season.

Palmer was arguably our best WR last year, definitely our most explosive. I'm excited to see what he can do with more targets. Underwood has some big-time potential too. And don't forget Asa Watson (TE) will be back after redshirting last season. He could be due for a big year.

^^ blaming the vt game on rw is crazy talk he played his nuts off. He did kill us against ECU though.
Clemson he didn't play well either but we had a shot to win before tob benched Russell on 4th and inches even though he converts that nearly every time.

And its already been explained that defense had nothing to do with the bc loss, bad quarterbacking did.

Gt and wake. Not exactly terrorizing defenses. I like our chances of winning one of those.

The Fsu game I will concede even though rw balled all over them twice. Iirc we lost that game bc Fsu started every possesion at the 50 yard line.

I think Quintin Payton will be a nice option at WR for us. Didn't catch a lot of balls last year, but he was like a 5th option behind TP and the 3 seniors. He's got good size.

He played well for a quarter and a half...then shut the bed for the rest of the game. He was 21 of fucking 49 for three interceptions! If that's "playing his nuts off", then you have some low standards. I bet you thought Philip Rivers "played his nuts off" during San Diego's losing streak this year.

We had them on the ropes at the end of the half and he throws a retarded ass interception in the end zone. That happened, and I looked at everyone at the bar and said, "we're going to lose this game."

We probably would have won the BC game this year with RW...MAYBE (a big maybe) gtech game. We might have lost the Maryland game...who knows....RW didn't play too well against them last year (did he throw 3 ints at college park last year??).

Quote :

Didn't he fail to convert the 4th and inches on the previous drive? Scratch that...he got stuffed on the 3rd and one on the previously play.

Rw played great against vt period. The end of half int was bad but the final int doesn't go on him it was a hail Mary.

We lose that game 49-0 with Glennon back there . Rw had to dodge pass rush on every play our oline got manhandled that game. Glennon would have set the record for sacks taken out there

And the founding fathers were all Christians too, huh?

Purely revisionist history. He was winging prayers all day. He didn't have to throw that ball in to double (triple?) coverage. You may have a point with RW being able to win one or two of those games last year, but don't just make shit up to support it.

^ Yep.

RW threw a ton of jump balls his sophomore year that our WR's made GREAT plays on. I said it all year last year, but I think he got a false sense of confidence from doing that two years ago and miraculously didn't throw a lot of picks.

He did the same thing in 2010 and threw at least twice as many picks. Even though we had the same tall, playmaking WRs...the law of probability finally hit us and the defenders actually caught some of those 50/50 balls.

Can you imagine how many picks he would have thrown this past year with our tiny WRs?? People forget that we lost the majority of our playmakers when RW left. Glennon had as much rapport with those guys working with them on 2nd team than RW would have.

He played great against vt I said that after the game. Bunch of whiners in here tried to pin that game on him when he played great vs an elite defense.

Hail Mary int with 50 seconds left isn't on the qb.

We lost that game bc of four specific plays. Our guy not pushing the rb out of bounds inexplicably, ko return for td, reverse fumble (tob started the meltdown there), and int before the half.

Rw played well that day, period.

It's funny when a stats guy picks a certain time to ignore stats. Usually it happens when it doesn't support his argument.

RW got a big head sometimes last year and made a lot of throws he shouldn't have made. There were a ton of times he could have checked down in that VT game or scrambled for 5+ yards, but he kept trying to make plays when we didn't need him to.

He DID NOT have a great game against V-tech. He had a very good quarter and a half.

We would have won 49-0 if Glennon was the QB. Prove me wrong

Holy revisionist history Bat Man. There was more like 1:30 left and he threw the ball into double/triple coverage near the 50 yd line on first down. There was no hail mary pass. It was an absolutely, 100% dumb fucking play.

No, a dumb play is taking a sack or running the clock out with dump passes and not giving yourself a chance to win.

Airing the ball out in that situation is an optimal play. You need to pick up yards FAST.

You play to win. Not just to pad your stats.

First String
OLB: Rickey Dowdy - R. Junior
MLB: Sterling Lucas - R. Senior
OLB: Robert Caldwell - Junior (Transfer)

Second String
OLB: Michael Peek - Sophomore
MLB: Ryan Cheek - R. Junior
OLB: Brandon Pittman - Sophomore

Also, since Dontae Johnson played a hybrid safety/linebacker last season, we could see him rotate in as well.
