season2 started? cool. after i watched an episode or two, I hated this show for calling me out on a few of my eccentricities. then i decided the writers must've done some really deep research.. now i respect teh show and am willing to watch it for free at least.

You are not in the minority. 4 >> 3 but both were very good. Watching them back to back tonight was an excellent decision.
I won't say more about 4 just in case there are those that don't watch it in advance...but man. Some quality scenes in ep 4. 1/29/2013 12:04:18 AM |

last few scenes of ep 4 were really really good (subway scene especially) but I liked episode 3 a little more.
the Jessa character annoys me. maybe moreso because I know in real life that's exactly what Jemima Kirke grew up as, a rich Manhattanite who did a lot of drugs and didn't have to worry about shit. 1/29/2013 11:02:46 AM |

^agreed, but that's also what i like about this show...that on paper, several of these characters are irritating, but you still feel for/empathize with a character like jessa when she gets called a "whore with no work ethic." or at least i do. and both of the last two episodes were two of the best episodes in the whole series so far, both did a great job of moving seemlessly between hilarious moments and sincere sequences. i think i liked episode 4 a little more, but it's tough to choose.
loved how just about every character (ray, marnie, jessa, etc.) in episode 4 comes clean about how unfulfilled they feel about their lives. that theme is the heart of the show IMO. 1/29/2013 11:29:17 AM |

I continue to be flabbergasted over the amount of critical acclaim this show receives. Are females really such a vapid demographic that this drivel of dialogue passes off as some kind of metaphor for 20-somethings' post-undergrad life?
"...unsatisfied with their lives..."? "...finding themselves..."? "...fulfilling their dreams..."?
The cliches this show bases its entire premise on are embarrassing. Yet, instead of being offended by this, women seem to find this show empowering.
What the fuck. 2/11/2013 7:56:23 AM |

^^^Are those actual quotes from the show?
If they are, then we should be clear that they're intended to be drivel. Like, the big declaration Hannah made to Joshua at the end of this episode...it was all cliched garbage intended--consciously or unconsciously--to sabotage her connection with him. 2/11/2013 11:32:12 AM |

I'm definitely a fan of the show but I knew it was a bottle episode about five minutes in and thought it was pretty bad. I kept expecting a big fight between the two of them to close out the episode so the shot of her walking out was a bit weird. A bottle episode might be acceptable once or twice for a long running cable series, but not a show on a premium channel where you only get about 12 episodes a year. I think Lena Dunham definitely casts good looking people for her to bang, and this one seemed to exist for no other reason for her to get up on the bad guy from The A-Team 2/11/2013 7:01:50 PM |

^^i don't think this was a bottle episode in the true sense of the term. You guys are all looking at it like a filler episode with no progression when in fact this episode focused so much on Hannah's feelings and aspirations of a certain life she's nowhere close to having. Did it take seeing her nude way too often, yes, but it still delivered.

This show has been on for a season and a half, and people are already screaming that Dunham is being self-indulgent by writing, directing, and starring herself, then giving herself handsome dudes to fuck.
I've rarely heard this criticism levied at Larry David, who's been doing the same thing for twelve years.

Yup. Larry David is a POS with money, fame, and power. Lena's character is a POS with no redeeming qualities at all. She's fat, poor, annoying, and not really talented at anything. 2/12/2013 6:48:57 AM |

I actually loved this episode even though I knew while in the middle of watching it that most people would probably hate it. I tend to be a sucker for slower, more meditative episodes like that. And totally agree with the Louie comparison, hadn't even thought of that.

I loved this episode. Even after her rant of feelings at the end which was totally awkward and slathered with "crazy chick", she had a good point. Which I hope leads to her reuniting with Adam.

Even though i like the character...am i alone in thinking that the girl that plays Jessa is a bad actor?
Probably just the scene on the swings with her dad, but her crying seemed overly fake and it took away from what should have been a very poignant and vulnerable moment.
In my opinion. To be fair, i hadn't noticed her acting as terrible before that point. 2/25/2013 4:04:50 PM |

^I don't think he was saying she was above criticism, I think he was maybe explaining why she may not be the best actress (since she isn't really an actress)
Still, many of the characters in The Wire (for instance) were non-actors and they did just fine because they were just doing pretty much what they'd been doing their whole life--Snoop is a good example. Not saying the actor playing Jessa does as well as some of those non-actors, just pointing out that there's a precedent for shows casting non-actors and that it's not always the worst thing if the characters are written a certain way or if the show is trying to achieve an edge of realism.
I think Jessa works well sometimes, but I agree her emotional expression was over-the-top in this most recent episode.

adam went full beast mode in this episode. would've loved to have seen more of his date in this episode.
i was pretty sad/disappointed when shoshanna cheated on ray...also i felt like it was kind of shitty from a narrative standpoint, felt a little too rushed although they have established some tension in ray and shosh's relationship the past few episodes. and i'm pretty happy for charlie coming out of the better end of his failed relationship with marnie. hannah's brand of ocd was pretty hilarious, especially when she shoulder-checked the guy eight times.

all she needed was a hot guy to tell her she was pretty after actually feelign out of place in a social setting when she is normally the commanding role her normal social interactions
