"SO? A bunch or people would be BLINDLY shooting"

Generally speaking, CC permit holders aren't going to BLINDLY shoot; they should know that shots are only taken when you can properly identify the target, life in danger, etc. I doubt an OK Corral would ensue, but if the attacker WAS spotted, options are better than none.

Why would someone take a 3 month old to the movies? Isn't it too loud in there and the volume could damage their hearing at that age?

yes on the 3mo old.

that was my main problem with the children being there. i mean, i don't think that a 6 year old should see this movie, but it's my opinion

My niece went to movies at that age and would sleep right through them. It's probably a pretty good way to teach your baby to sleep through anything. Then again, my older brother and his wife also took her to a Star Trek convention at 8 days old.

Do people ever analyze their own opinions to make sure they're logical and correct to at least a third degree?

I know for a FACT that CC permit holders in many states only have to pass a very basic shooting and elementary written test. Put those people in that sort of dark theater environment with a fucking smoke and gas bomb, i don't think you can give any credit to the fact that they are CC holders.

It would be a fucked up situation and I wouldn't count on anyone's reactions being very rational. Put guns in the peoples' hands... that shit is just a recipe for an even worse disaster.

Let's look at best case scenerios:

Unarmed audience: Everyone can't protect themselves. Everyone who can't run faster than bullets is at the mercy of luck to escape.

armed audience: One armed man can shoot the perpetrator before he can kill anyone.

Without a doubt, the case with armed audience yields a POTENTIAL outcome that is 10^12 better than any outcome where an audience is unarmed.

^That's what I'm trying to say. If not so, it's senseless to have a gun.

Criminals will always have guns. Laws make honest people not have them if illegal.

I'm sorry, but if you think putting guns in the hands of the audience members, considering they were surprised by someone who screened himself with a smoke and gas bomb, would have ameliorated the situation, you need to smack yourself.

A bunch of people, if shooting at all, would have been shooting at the "shooter" and if if 15 people are shooting in the theater... which one is the bad guy? Come on. Get real. SHEEEIIIIIIIIT

The horror level of this scene is probably beyond any crimes happening in movies. The only one which can be compared with is Nazi camp.

It is only if you don't educate people on the proper use of firearms. There are a lot of things that are dangerous in this world. Automobiles are one of them. With the proper education, however, we can limit the potential danger automobiles cause. Same thing with anything else, be it tools, airplanes, medicines, and yes even guns.

We need to stop being a world of people who fear dangerous things and learn to conquer/master these things are dangerous.

It is easy to fear something that someone is unfamiliar/uneducated with. It has been ingrained in us that if we don't understand something, we should probably fear it.

A hammer is dangerous. If properly used, it's a wonderful tool.

Absolutely, ingrained by evolution, by very rational and understandable means.

But people understand guns, so that point is moot. It's just stupid.

article written for Rolling Stone after Columbine, still appropriate..I'll troll my boat on out of here now....: "It is sad to think that the first few people on earth needed no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold-blooded murder. The day that Cain bashed his brother Abel's brains in, the only motivation he needed was his own human disposition to violence. Whether you interpret the Bible as literature or as the final word of whatever God may be, Christianity has given us an image of death and sexuality that we have based our culture around. A half-naked dead man hangs in most homes and around our necks, and we have just taken that for granted all our lives. Is it a symbol of hope or hopelessness? The world's most famous murder-suicide was also the birth of the death icon -- the blueprint for celebrity. Unfortunately, for all of their inspiring morality, nowhere in the Gospels is intelligence praised as a virtue."

A crazy guy walks into a theater and starts shooting with a very minimal path to escape. I am sure everyone there thought to themselves, "OH MY GOD THIS IS AWFUL, AT LEAST NO ONE ELSE IN HERE HAS A GUN!"

I think people need to realize that these sort of things are the exception, not the rule. Violent crime in general has been on a steady decline for the past 10-20 years, while gun ownership has increased. (yeah yeah, correlation/causation etc)

It sure doesn't take much to be considered a hero anymore. Just acting normally/decently now gets you recognized by the president as a hero. Best friend is shot in the neck and you take a little effort to put some pressure on the wound and pull her into an aisle and that makes you a hero? Wtf? Calling 911 makes her a hero? Wow, way to go for performing the most basic and expected action in an emergency situation. Don't they know that household pets are dialing 911 these days?

The bottom line is: what kind of person would not do that for a friend? If you left me to bleed out in the aisle while you cowered in fear then you are no friend of mine.

^^I hear what you're saying, but what you listed isn't why people are calling her actions heroic. staying behind in a panicked situation where the human self-preservation instinct is overpowering is commendable.

On the other end of the spectrum Jamie Rohrs is a fucking coward. Motherfucker put his 4 month old son down because he thought the crying would draw attention to them and then fled the theater, got into his car and fucking drove off while his gf took a bullet trying to get their kids out safely. A complete stranger, Jarell Brooks also took a bullet trying to help and protect them.

^^I know!!!!!!!! I read that and was like what the fuck! and then she said yes to his marriage proposal!!

First off, it took a massacre for him to want to marry you! You being his girlfriend for a long time didn't, you carrying and having his child didn't. No, it took him almost losing his life to want to marry you and to top it off he left you behind for dead.

Fucked up.
