I think Greene has value this year. If/when Tebow wins the QB job Greene should be a very solid fantasy RB. Even McGahee had value last year with Tebow.

Say 1,000 rush, 250 rec, 6-7 total TD's.

A top 20 RB.

Redman is outside my top 30. Don't see him getting but about 800 combined yards and 4-5 TD.

I'm just basing it off history, their offense usually gets of to a slow start, and with Meachem gone Moore should get more looks behind Colston and Sproles. Hopefully I'm giving good advice, but feel free to cuss me if Floyd goes off.

^No way Greene gets 250 rec yards, maybe not even half that.

10 team auction ppr, drafted last night (don't give me shit for Moss, it was a mistake nomination):

QB Cam Newton, Car
RB Ray Rice, Bal
RB Jamaal Charles, KC
WR Julio Jones, Atl
WR Hakeem Nicks, NYG
TE Brent Celek, Phi
FLEX Jordy Nelson, GB
FLEX Beanie Wells, Ari
D/ST Bills
K Matt Prater, Den K

Bench Randy Moss, SF WR
Bench Torrey Smith, Bal WR
Bench Matt Schaub, Hou QB
Bench Donald Brown, Ind RB
Bench Nate Washington, Ten WR
Bench Titus Young, Det WR
Bench Toby Gerhart, Min RB
Bench Rueben Randle, NYG WR

I'm obviously drinking the Donald Brown kool-aid, hopefully it doesn't backfire on me. I also think Torrey Smith will be an absolute fantasy stud this year.

^ agreed, conventional wisdom has Torrey Smith as a 50/800/8 type guy which would land him around #30 WR.

It just seems like he has so much more potential than that though. I snagged him in one league just in case.

"Rashard Mendenhall showed "burst and long speed" that left Steelers defensive players "buzzing" in Monday's practice.
This comes on the heels of coach Mike Tomlin's surprising declaration that the Steelers are "leaving the door open" for Mendenhall to start the season opener, pending his knee's response to this week's practice workload. "He looked incredible," said DE Brett Keisel. Added ILB Lawrence Timmons, "I thought he looked great. He was running well, finishing runs. I'm excited for him." While it's great news for Mendenhall's progress, we're highly skeptical that he will see significant action at Denver after missing the entire preseason. This does put a bit of a damper on Jonathan Dwyer's sleeper outlook, however. "

uh Shonn Greene had 211 receiving yards.

He's gone from 0 to 120 to 211 receiving yards the last three years. He's still developing as a receiving option. 250 is a realistic estimate.

Even if he only has 150 we're talking about a difference of 6 yards per game. Nothing to be concerned over. You're not drafting Greene for his receiving prowess, you're drafting him because the Jets will run the ball a lot because they can't throw and they will play low scoring 13-10 type games.

I forgot about my draft last night till 20 minutes into it.

Think auto draft did pretty good getting me Stafford/Calvin j/Steve smith/graham. Drafted 7 in a 12 team league thought that wasn't bad. I prob wouldn't have taken Graham that early but hopefully he has monster year.

Been going with the strategy this year of taking 2 good defenses early(just around the time most people are about to start grabbing defenses).

Hoping with so many good offenses having 2 good defenses will be worth more than an extra 10-12 round bench pick that I can offset getting someone off waivers.

In a 14 team keeper league where you can keep 0-4 players and give up your first 1-4 picks.

I kept Drew Brees, Calvin Johnson, Mike Wallace, and Jordy Nelson. Awesome QB/WRs (we start 3 WR/TE), but obviously no RBs. Ended up with this team:

Drew Brees
DeAngelo Williams
Alfred Morris
Calvin Johnson
Jordy Nelson
Mike Wallace
Giants DST
Steven Hauschka

Russell Wilson
Jonathan Stewart
Mike Tolbert
Jon Baldwin
Chris Rainey
Cardinals DST

Morris is supposedly #3 on the depth chart after his awesome pre-season, so I'll have to play that one by ear. I could honestly see myself starting 2 Panthers RBs some weeks, just hoping to get solid #1 RB numbers out of the two of them combined.

The point of all that was to ask which RBs to go with in week 1. Stewart still seems banged up, and Morris is potentially #3 for the skins. Rainey is actually an option as well since we give 1 point for every 20 kickoff return yards and for every 10 punt return yards.

Right now I have Williams and Morris going, hoping that the skins depth chart is just some shanahan gamesmanship.

this sounds like the most ridiculous draft/strategy ever

Graham as is Jimmy Graham?? lasting all the way til the 5th round?? and you think that's early??

and lol at taking one defense early, two is absolutely ridiculous

I don't think he was listing that in order. Graham wouldn't have lasted that late in autodraft.

I, too, lulz at picking two defenses.

What to do with QB's?

Romo @ NYG
Rivers @ Oakland
Wilson @ Arizona

Rivers hasn't exactly been lighting up Oakland the past couple of years
Romo has completed a lot of passes vs. the NYG
Wilson was my mr irrelevant, but Arizona sucks

I would do Rivers against Oakland...but I am a bit biased.

Romo chokes in big games and there will be a lot of eyes on him. Plus New York's pass rush could wreak havoc. I'd say it's a toss-up between those two.

I don't think you can take the gamble of playing Wilson this early. Sure, he could go all early season Cam Newton on Arizona...but that's a pretty big gamble.

holy shit, he was cleared by doctors to play in week 2, but apparently he really wants to play tonight. Witten is a hoss

Quote :
"
Jason Witten (doubtful, spleen) is willing to sign a medical waiver in order to play in Wednesday night's opener.
The waiver would absolve doctors of liability should Witten re-injure his spleen against the Giants. So far, the Cowboys are reportedly not willing to accept this is a path for their starting tight end to get on the field. Witten is in New York, but remains extremely doubtful to gain clearance before tonight's kickoff. "

also, one more time for a different crowd:

pick my 3 WRs this week (non-ppr):

Julio Jones @ KC
Mike Wallace @ Den
Brandon Marshall vs. Indy
Miles Austin @ NYG

Rivers is the safe.

Lynch might not play, so they would start a rookie RB also. That would not go into RW's favor even if Arizona sucks that bad.

Romo and Rivers could be a toss up, but i think NYG's D is significantly better than OAK's D

Graham was my 2nd pick(well auto-drafts 2nd). I just listed my players in position order from QB->TE.

And let me rephrase, I didn't take a defense early like the 6th round. I think I got mine in the 11th/12th if I remember correctly. But you can tell in a draft where the player pool is dwindling and you know everyone is about to take their defenses. 8-10 will go off the board in a row. So around the time everyone was about to do that I've been trying to grab the best defense available and then a 2nd on the way back(did this in 2 drafts). Hopefully someone out there waited to long on defenses and I can get good trade value packaging a player + defense later in the season. With so many teams in the NFL capable of putting up numbers I think quality defenses are diminishing, and those points can really add up each week.

I don't see how it is that ridiculous to be honest. It is at the point in the draft where you are hoping to get lucky or drafting back-up RBs and reach players/rookies. I don't see how having 2 really good defenses to choose from each week vs. having some guy you might never play or end up dropping can hurt. It is a 12 team league as well, so defenses are more valuable.

This is generally the opposite of my strategy of waiting on defenses/TE. Gets stale using the same draft strategy each year, I'm in 6 different leagues, so changing it up and trying something new isn't going to kill me.

10 team league, QB/2RB/2WR/FLEX/TE/K/DEF - non-PPR

At QB - Who to start, who to sit, who to drop?
I am thinking P Manning is the safe bet, obviously, but RW has more upside considering the opponent is AZ.

I have Witten as my TE, but need to drop one of my 3 QBs(or someone else) to give him a replacement for the night.

Also, considering starting K Smith instead of Charles, based on opponents for this week.

I have a trade in process right now to give up D Williams and receive Torrey Smith.

My whole team:

QB: P Manning, RW, Luck
RB: C Johnson, Forte, Charles, K. Smith, McGahee, Deangelo Williams
WR: Jennings, Lloyd, Bowe
TE: Witten
K: Hartley
D: Houston

Thoughts?

Go with Julio, Brandon, and Miles. Mike Wallace just started practicing a couple of days ago and is in a new system, I don't care if he had a playbook, The Steelers will ease him into the lineup.

I think the safe pick would be Pitt's defense. I don't think Peyton is even close to 100% and they don't have a dynamic offense anyways.

But the NYG's defense has the potential for multiple TO's and a score with Romo's erratic play.

The reason drafting a defense early is frowned upon is because no one knows who the best defenses will be.

The preseason rankings for defenses are never even remotely accurate. There are too many variables to predict a good fantasy defense.

For example:

1) If your team's offense is higher scoring than anticipated then your defense will give up more points than anticipated too.

2) SOS. If a starting QB in their division goes down then they get to play a shitty QB twice. Everyone knows that defenses have big fantasy days against shitty backup QB's because of the turnovers.

3) Special teams TDs. Nearly impossible to predict from season to season because they are too fluky.

Defenses are DEFINITELY valuable in most league scoring systems and if you knew who the #1 defense was going to be they'd probably be worth like a 6th-7th round pick or so. The problem is no one has a track record worth a crap of predicting the top 10 defenses each year. Often times the top ranked preseason defenses won't even finish top 10-15.

That being said, a source i trust a lot has Chicago #1 overall this year so I grabbed them in two leagues. I also like NYJ defense because they are a solid defense and they play very low scoring games. Denver's defense wasn't even very good last year but thanks to Tebow they played low scoring games.

Royster is a very average back. Helu is actually a talented back. I wouldn't worry about who Shannahan names the starter its pretty meaningless and he rotates guys around constantly.

I think Helu is the better player to own because if RG3 gets rolling Helu is good in the passing game too. He's got big play potential but he's also an injury risk.

I don't think either guy hits 1,000 yards or even 6 TD, but Helu has potential.

defenses are valuable, but i can make a living picking up teams out of the pool/off waivers based on the next weeks matchup and be fine.

most weeks i can score fairly high finding a defense playing a shitty team like arizona, st louis, miami, jacksonville, J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS, and whoever else turns out to be godawful on offense this year. I will keep with one team if i end up with a really damn nice defense with a favorable schedule, like i lucked out with seattle last year. but to me, it's not worth having 2 roster spots taken up by defenses.

^ i agrere with all of that. It's worth it to keep a top 5 defense if you end up with one. Otherwise you can usually play the matchups pretty well.

I don't have the facts to verify this but I'm almost positive that in 2010 if you played the defense who was playing the panthers that week every week you'd end up with significantly more points than whoever the #1 defense was that year.

Obviously, its not possible to do every week, but it illustrates how you can still have a pretty good output at defense without necessarily having a good defense.

I'm really low on Bradshaw's value this year. He is a walking injury and I think Wilson is just as good of a fantasy RB for 10% of the cost.

Shonn is a borderline top 20 RB and so is Peterson IMO.

Personally, I'd do the trade and then trade Peterson if he has 1-2 good games early because i think there's a very low chance he plays out the whole year. He will have great trade value though if he has a couple good games early.

Is gerhart available as a FA pickup? If so I would do that trade and pick him up in the empty roster slot. He isn't a superstar, but is more than capable to play well (and score red zone tds) when AP is hurt.

Yeah he is, I went ahead with the trade based on the fact that I think the upside for Peterson is higher than Bradshaw. Greene was just a convenience in the draft when I got him and I really dont like him at all. Luckily I traded him to a jets fan.

Peterson should have a decent year and I just like his appearence on my roster better than Bradshaw.

I think Cutler has the better match up here, Cincy had a pretty strong pass D last year and that only got better in the offseason.

Vick vs. Browns or Schaub vs Dolphins?
I feel like Vick has the bigger upside but Schaub is the safe play.

Pick 1(for a different league than the Vick/Schaub question):
Maclin vs Cle
V Jax vs. Car
Torrey Smith vs Cin
Bradshaw vs Dal

We will see what happens. There is more than 1 draft strategy. Being in 6 leagues I find it fun to mix it up. If I get lucky and hit on 2 of the top defenses I'll have good trade bait or just horde them both.

If I feel I've gotten a good draft up to the 10-11th pick, I don't mind grabbing an early defense as I feel that pick can be as good as some of the players left at that point. Usually I don't grab two, but again just something I am trying out for fun see where things land. I rarely do poorly in any league I'm in, so not to worried.
