And you seriously believe all these polls? I don't believe polls taken on either side of the line.

NyM410: Probably, but that's the November projections. I'm thinking about the current polls shifting. They're already in margin-of-error territory nationally. One or two points is all Romney needs for Fox to declare him effectively ahead.

Why? I don't believe any single one poll. But I trust an aggregation of polls where the methodology and sample is thoroughly vetted.

And a 66% chance of winning is anything but a lock.

^ fair enough. I don't even think that Romney will gain that much in the current polls. Some? Yes. But I just don't think there is enough willing to change for any reason to create a seismic shift.

True, but the news networks don't care. They want a horse race for their ratings and will use anything they can to make the election look like one

So... How are tax cuts if the revenue raises has to be the same as they are now?

So they'll lower my tax rate, yet at the same time increase my taxable income so that on average they get the same revenue? That's not a tax cut, that's just tax neutral...

Between the President hammering Romney on all the missing details and the failed arithmetic behind trying to cut the deficit with tax cuts and no real spending cuts, I think he came across as better able to paint a picture of his opponent.

Romney spending time trying walk a line between supporting RomneyCare and opposing ObamaCare seemed like a hard line to walk that doesn’t pick him up any points.

Romney needed a game changer at this point given how far behind he is in the polls in the swing states. I think the President won, but even for someone thinking Romney won, I don’t think anyone thinks this was the game changer that Romney needed at this point.

Challenger typically gains a few points after first poll:
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/03/first-debate-often-helps-challenger-in-polls/

Romney still has an uphill battle.

Obama's going to learn from his mistakes, one would think.

and lol @ person attacking the polls. They've been pretty accurate in past elections, no reason to doubt them now.

I find it funny that all the Republicans I know are all, ROMNEY WON! And vice versa.

I will say that I totally agree with wolfpackgrr's comment of having Samuel L. Jackson next time as the moderator. (I think it was her, or someone who commented on her FB status)

As someone who has less than zero respect for Mitt Romney, he performed better tonight.

It's pretty obvious for anyone who watched, including Obama.

Look at their body language during the handshake. They both know who won.

Yeah, every poll I've seen so far has shown people think Mittens won the debate pretty easily.

Like I said, when Chris Matthews is on MSNBC screaming about Obama being too passive and Ed Schultz thinks Romney won the debate you know it's an issue for the Obama campaign.

Obama spoke longer but the debate seemed dominated by Romney, he controlled the flow of the conversation and pushed the moderator around.

It was not a good night for the President.

Haha. There was actually a reference in the President's closing remarks about repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell I believe. That wouldn't have happened under a President Mitt Romney or Vice President Paul Ryan who both opposed repeal. Under them we'd actually lose ground with marriage discrimination amendments being pushed for the US Constitution.

Also, this comment is about optics not policy, but Romney was painted as being on the wrong side of the AARP on more than one occasion. And that's a bad place to be in an election since those guys vote.

There's no doubt that Obama had a chance to hit big on SS, but he didn't. He started his comments by saying that he suspected both he and Romney wanted to protect SS.

What the fuck?

You're supposed to be differentiating yourself from your opponent, not preemptively agreeing with him! Seriously, who prepped Obama for this debate?

I expected Obama to wipe the floor with Romney. Romney was calm and collected, whereas Obama looked like he didn't want to be there and made little eye contact with Romney.

I think saying one person won over the other is stupid, but Romney far exceeded my expectations in what he put forth. Should be interesting to see the next debate.

It's just the first debate. I'd expect somewhere near a complete 180 in the next bout. FWIW, I think Biden will get the better of Ryan too while simultaneously putting a foot in his mouth at least 4 times.

I think you got a count it as a win for Romney just because he remained evasive on all of his policy issues, and Obama could nail him down on him any of them. Until Obama can get Romney to fess up to how stupid and/or nonexistent his plans are he won't be able to make significant progress in the debates. Also Obama didn't attack his biggest screw ups, like the 47% tape. Maybe he is saving it for a later debate so people don't get tired of hearing about it.

For undecided voters who think Romney won, I like to ask what policy issues specifically Romney won and why. I agree he probably sounded more confident, what exactly was he right about?

That's because Obama isn't an idiot on a college messageboard like you.

Mentioning that tape is one of the only things he could have talked about that would have made him look more pathetic tonight.

It's the kind of thing that might make him a champion here, but a loser in general.

Get it? It's called maturity.

For argument sake, if you were Obama, how exactly would you have worked the 47% into one of your responses? This is bound to be classic.

On the other hand maybe you're right; maybe Obama could have nailed Romney's ass on some of those numbers. Funny thing is, he was too busy daydreaming about, well, idk.

A rack of ribs? Michelle Obama's sweet ass tonight during anniversary sex? Who knows?

Most people know that debates aren't about hashing out 100% correct and tangible figures/policies/goals/etc.

It's all about appearances. I encourage you to research the JFK/Nixon debate phenomenon.

Or instead you can just keep reading Reddit and The Onion.
