Iglesias had gotten a lot better as a hitter over the last year, but Cecchini and Bogaerts are likely the future at 3B and SS for the Red Sox. If they still view Middlebrooks as a viable option at 3B then before this trade they had 4 guys who will be major league ready in the next year and only 2 spots for them. Helps solidify the rotation in case Buccholz doesn't come back, and if he does it allows them to move someone to the bullpen to help out since they've seemingly got a new injury out there each week.

Iglesias likely helps the Tigers strengthen their defense, and they have a good enough offense to live with his hitting as his numbers regress.

I'm pissed bc the Tigers couldve gotten a guy like Brendan Ryan for nothing and he'd hit just as shitty and play just as good of D as iglesias. Instead they give up a young top 5 prospect in garcia

Yeah, how dare those pirates fans get excited and go to more games now that their team isn't complete shit, must be bandwagon

Pirates fans have been there for a long time, there just isn't much to get excited about or any reason to spend money to go to the games when ownership is doing nothing to try and win. Spending time in pittsburgh you could tell even during the many shit years the fans were still there, just depressed for good reason. If any fan base deserves being overly excited about a good season it is Pirates fans. Now that we finally have some competency running the team and have built a solid farm system those days should be over.

Poor Pittsburgh fans, with their most Super Bowl wins of all time, and their 3rd Stanley Cup 3 years ago...boo hoo for the poor Pittsburgh fans, who live in sports purgatory

No sympathy from this Wolfpack/Panthers/Bobcats/Twins fan

Just don't pull the bullshit bandwagon fan card, no one noticed the fact that the pirates had fans until now and that doesnt make them bandwagon automatically, that's all the point I was making.

It would be the same as claiming Wolfpack fans were bandwagon if by a snowballs chance in hell we actually do something non Wolfpack shit. Wolfpack fans are passionate through the bad times and the good.

lol at skywlkr getting all upset at me calling some guy who very likely is a bandwagon fan a bandwagon fan. Best part of that gif is the fat guy in the white shirt on the far right yelling "you suck"

Oakland is 23rd. Tampa Bay is 29th. All three win lots of games. What's your point?

^ Those teams are both stuck in shit stadiums which hurts their attendance. Plus they are both consistent winners so the bandwagon effect will not be felt. Pittsburgh should be drawing more fans now since they are clearly a good team.

but Pittsburgh has been horrible since forever.

i think if their attendance was really high this particular season, wouldn't that basically mean everyone came out of the woodwork to support them? that sounds like bandwagon tome

^ Yes and that is what should be happening, but has not yet. I am willing to bet that their avg attendance has been rising this season as would be natural.

I've been to a fair number of parks and the A's play in one of the worst stadiums I've ever been in. The only one that was worse was the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium where we thought we had decent seats but my mom was directly behind a steel support beam. The place just doesn't look like it has been kept up.

That said, when the team is winning the way they and the Pirates are, the people should start showing up and so far that isn't happening.

Pittsburgh really has no excuse. PNC Park is a beautiful stadium.

The O.Co Coliseum is a total shithole, and when you combine it with the fact that the A's owner has made it clear he wants to ship the team off to San Jose, and refuses to take the tarps down during the playoffs like last year, it's actually amazing as many people show up to games as they do...

^ Good. I am hoping A-Roid plays so the Yankees have to pay him some of his retarded salary. I agree with Buck Showalter in that the Yanks want to use the suspension as a way to reduce their luxury tax hit or to use that extra cash to buy more FAs.

Granted him playing today has no bearing on him being suspended for all of 2014.

Colon and Melky were both suspended for failing a drug test last year. Since this round of suspensions werent for another failed drug test, I'm guessing MLB is assuming that they are one and the same

is pete rose in the hall of fame yet?

no? ok well then i don't give a shit about these a-rod suspensions and whatnot.

it's bullshit that braun/arod/melky/etc. will get 50-200 game suspensions for being cheating little dickbags while one of the greatest players of all time is banned from baseball for life because he bet on games. what they've done is way worse IMO.

i mean mark mcgwire is a cheater and he's coaching now. you don't think he could be telling kids how to not get caught? bullshit. all of it.

Arod is suspended so long because he was
A. Caught twice
B. Caught tampering with evidence linking him to it.

That's why his is worse

"The Greatest Player" needs to be made an example of. Don't fucking cheat. Clean baseball is fun baseball.

if you're gonna ban pete rose for life for NOT CHEATING AT BASEBALL, then every single steroid user should be banished from the game. this shit is why i really can't get into baseball like i wish i could.

god i can't wait for selig to retire/die.

what Rose did was waaaaaay worse for the league than PEDs are

but with that said I think he should be in the HOF

[Edited on August 5, 2013 at 9:18 PM. Reason : but Selig had nothing to do with the ban and has no say in his HOF eligibility ]

A rod hasn't been caught twice. He admitted one, and was caught. Melky tried to tamper with evidence and created a fake website to try to clear his name. He was suspended 50 games. The penalty for your second offense is 100 games. How can they possibly suspend a rod for more than 100 games?
