The cops were frightened because they were being targeted by Dornan, and they acted accordingly. Doesn't excuse them shooting up 2 trucks, but I do understand why they had such itchy trigger fingers. These guys were freaking the fuck out, thinking that their families might be the next victims.

Cops are people. People do dumb shit when they are scared.

Too bad they're almost never held responsible for their poor decision making and actions, even if they're a product of fear.

Regular Ol' Joe Schmoe sure as hell would be.

i would think that the training that cops should receive should address "not doing dumb shit with a gun". if that's not part of their training, it should be!

i wonder how present-day media would cover/react to the old gangster shoot-outs from early 1900's?

Yeah, that's the problem with workforces that are protected by powerful unions; a complete lack of accountability because the union makes it extremely difficult to reprimand/fire it's members.

Somehow I doubt that you'll call for changes to public sector union laws which protect LAPD cops from punishment and make them a very powerful force in city / state politics. Instead you'll simultaneously bitch about the "blue code of silence" and cry about Republican governors and their union-busting.

I'm still holding out hope for this as well. I was really hoping he'd pop up at the SOTU a la David Copperfield.

arguing is easier now that we decided that definitely nothing will happen to the officers who shot at the two trucks, instead of seeing what happens

Yeah, whatever man. We are talking about gross negligence here in terms of police shooting innocent people.... There should be zero room for error. 2, 7, 50....there's no excuse. Neither the cops being on edge, nor them not being sure of their intended target makes this in any way more acceptable.

LAPD can't even screw up as good as NYPD, NYPD's negligent shooting incident was way better

There will be Dorner sightings for years now. Even if they say it was indeed him in the cabin many won't believe them...I say he set this shit up & made it look like he's dead .. now he's off to Mexico to live on the beach.

I think we can both agree that 2 does not equal 7, which no one claimed

Also

That 2 is relatively close to 7

Also

That when we're talking about cops shooting innocent people, even 1 is too many

Also

That your fucking face is asinine

So since I have a 2" dick and yours is 7", my dick is nearly as long as yours?

yeah, 2 isn't relatively close to 7. It's almost only a quarter of it. But 2 is too many.

The official media line:

"The coroner's office is studying the remains to positively determine the identity. It was not clear how the cabin caught fire."

LOL yeah it is so unclear in the scanner recordings.

So, lettuce discuss relativity.

If Mike Tyson got to punch you in the neck 7 times, and he's already 2 punches in, would you say you're relatively close to the end of your beating?

What if you were 2 punches in out of 80?

^^ I think it's common practice to not identify a body unless they can confirm the identity, either through a close aquatance or some verifiable means like dental records. if he shot himself in the head and fell back-to-the-ground then it's pretty likely his ID was shielded from the flames by his clothing, giant frame, wallet and cards.

They probably then just rolled the body over after the fire was done, pulled out his charred wallet, found the ID and exclaimed "Hey we found the ID of our suspect and it it just happens to be on this corpse that looks like Dorner"

Every year, I make a new years resolution to 'keep my black ass out of jail'

Not saying that this is racially motivated at all, but now I think instead of hoping I stay out of jail, I will instead pray that no police department fucking burns me alive inside of a house.

Breaking news!

San Bernardino County Sheriff admits they set house on fire, denies they set house on fire.

Also, both tear gas and incendiary grenades were used, according to the sheriff.

Yeah, yeah, maybe. You never really know though.

Anyway, It's still more entertaining to think of these events as sequential :

^^^So tuff.

Willie Brown, accused rapist, 1919.

The Sheriff during the Omaha riot protected his prisoner Brown as long as possible even as a mob of thousands set the jail on fire. Interesting contrast in character.

In the year 2013, the police thought the only way to resolve a conflict was to intentionally burn someone to death in a house fire.

Think about that.

One might begin to think the most dangerous gang in America is the police department.

Nah, it's really not. Police kill people who haven't done shit with disturbing frequency. They cause significant bodily harm to many, many more without cause. Even when they do have cause to restrain or arrest they frequently choose to punish instead/in addition to.

"Attucks and a group of men led by Attucks approached the Old State House armed with clubs. A soldier was struck with a piece of wood, an act some witnesses claimed was done by Attucks. Other witnesses stated that Attucks was "leaning upon a stick" when the soldiers opened fire.[9]

Five colonists were killed and six were wounded. Attucks took two bullets in the chest and was the first to die."

Hmmm, Crispus Attucks' death was a legitimate use of lethal force by a police power.
