Rosen was pulled yesterday in the blow out. Glennon went 10/14 111 yards, 1 TD.

Quote :
"Glennon will serve as Derek Carr’s backup as long as they don’t draft a quarterback, which is still rumored to be a possibility.

Apparently the contract is a $2 million 1-year contract.

Glennon is entering his 7th NFL season after being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 Draft by the Bucs.

Even though he has only started 22 games in 6 seasons, Glennon has pocketed $27,446,782 over that span."

He has made almost $35,000 per pass attempt in his career. That's pretty sweet.

Yeah worse ways to make a living. Don't know that he would have ever been a viable long term starter but he did basically catch every worst possible break at pretty much every stop on his career.

Bad coaching and constantly switching QBs around his first two years
Bucs then Draft Jameis.
Signed with Chicago for them to go draft Trubisky within like a month, played in the year before the Bears upgraded a bunch of positions.
First round QB drafted in AZ.
Watch the raiders draft a QB now too.

If his receivers could catch he would have been 2-2 with Chicago, and probably starts another game or two (next game trubisky had 2 turnovers in a 20-17 L, who knows, might have been 3-2)

"Mike Glennon recorded a QBR of 0.0 yesterday.

He did not have enough plays to officially qualify, but if he had, it would have been the worst QBR game in the history of the metric -- dating back to 2006.

Previous record was 0.3 by Peyton Manning in Week 10 of 2015 vs. Chiefs."

QBR is a terrible metric

I mean that doesn't really apply here, but it needs to be said every time QBR is mentioned.

a metric that factors in QB rush yards is better than one that doesn’t in 2022

Neither are particularly good, but i will take the one that has a known formula over the one that ESPN has kept proprietary and has changed multiple times over the years in order to promote certain players. Also, as it currently stands QBR puts a ridiculous amount of weight on rushing stats, to the point that passing is almost inconsequential to QBR if the guy runs for 80 yards. Just remember, there was a time when Charlie Batch and Jamarcus Russell were at the top of the all time QBR list. ESPN changed the formula once that became known to the public, just like they change it to fit whatever narrative they are currently pushing.

I'd much rather look at average yards per attempt + some rushing stats to determine who is good.

^^ QBR, like every other stat, works better with more data, so it’s silly to point to a one-game outlier to demean the metric

I know that you know this, but you’re being performative just to be performative

QBR is stupid and was made up by ESPN for marketing/promoting their own bullshit.

QB Rating is a statistic created to rank quarterbacks players whose main responsibility is passing the ball.

Kind of surprised if qbr puts more emphasis on running, brady is on and mahomes and wilson not on, but then on the other stat that doesn’t take into account running as much

I def like first list more than 2nd. Stafford still overrated though. Cousins…

Oh wait mahomes on qbr one. Is herbert considered legit bonafide good yet? Or just having good year?

Herbert is legit, so is Burrow. Neither are terrible lists. Wilson looks out of place because he missed so many games, but the stats are for "average" performance, not cumulative season stats.

It should be demeaned when it called a game where the QB threw for 186 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs as the greatest QB game of all time. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/19/charlie-batchs-186-yard-two-pick-game-has-espns-best-qbr-ever/
They then arbitrarily changed their formula once this went viral in order to save face. They were fine with this being the greatest game of all time for 4 years until someone called them out for their shitty formula. It's still shitty and no one can really tell you why QBRs are what they are. Just look at the QBRs for Sam Howell vs Devin Leary in this year's UNC game. QBR will tell you Howell was the vastly superior QB that day, despite the fact that QBR is supposed to reward "clutch plays"

QBR is a marketing tool that ESPN tweaks to push whatever narrative they want. It's not worth jack shit for comparing QBs because they won't tell you how they calculate it. It's like using some random sportswriters power rankings instead of league standings to determine playoff spots. Using QBR instead of any actual known stat is just saying "ESPN told me this guy is better"

Passer rating sucks, but we know why it sucks and can limit its use. QBR sucks, but it's a magic black box so using it is a terrible idea because we don't know anything about it.

this is a silly way of thinking

can you provide an example of them using QBR to push a specific narrative?

a decent explainer about what factors into QBR from someone is intimately involved with it:

Lol you posted a response on quora from a guy who works for ESPN. Really gonna change my mind with that completely unbiased opinion. The only possible way i will ever give half a thought to QBR as a useful stat is if ESPN actually publishes the formula for it and how each variable is calculated. Because right now it sure seems like it's some dudes arbitrarily assigning values to plays.

An advanced stat that no one (outside ESPN) knows the way it is calculated is useless. All it tells you is what an incredibly biased source thinks is the answer.

^^^ that's just kind of a dumb reason not to like QBR in my opinion. If you disagree with the results, that's one thing, but to just blindly not trust it because "I cAnT sEe wHaTs gOiNg On!1!" is dumb.

Tell me, do you trust KenPom in basketball? Cause it's the exact same scenario -- "magic box" spits out numbers, proprietary formula no one knows, the whole works.

I think the difference is that KP isn’t a multi-billion dollar media organization like ESPN. That feels like a distinct difference. I don’t fully agree with Justin (he does have a point imo).

That's a fair distinction but I don't think ESPN exactly makes money off QBR. They get clicks and ad revenue from their articles about it and whatnot but AFAIK it's a free stat to use.

While on the topic of Mike Glennon flawed ESPN stats, their FPI spits out some weird results too. Seems like Mississippi State was preseason top 10 this year.
