I always felt we could have won in Rome. Created a couple good early chances. But we looked knackered for some reason. The players were playing a level below normal.
Quote :
""A major inhibiting factor in Rome, I will now say, was the choice of hotel. It was a shambles. For meals we were in a room with no light; the food was late, it was cold. I took a chef there and they dismissed him, ignored him. On the morning of the game, two or three of our team were feeling a bit seedy, particularly Giggs. A few were feeling underthe weather and one or two played that way.The role Giggs was assigned came with a high workload that was incompatible with the slight bug in his system. It was too big atask for him to operate on top of Sergio Bus-quets, Barcelona’s defensive midfielder, andthen advance as a striker and come back into cover again.""

Fallen down to page 3 but its finally back!

Leverkusen vs PSG
City vs Barcelona
AC Milan vs Athletico
Arsenal vs Bayern

Obviously the two big fixtures are the ones that people will focus on more. First though I think Leverkusen and PSG could be an entertaining tie and I can see some goals in that one. AC Milan have the pedigree and have united under Seedorf but Atheti have been great this year and Ribas is a welcome addition to Simone's side. Simone is fast becoming Europe's top manager after Klopp. Something about the Diego's in Madrid eh?

City couldn't have picked a better time to face Barca. It will be close but I can see City getting through. Barca's poor away record in the Champions League won't help and City will be giving it their all to make a statement if they are to finally be regarded as a European Elite team. Close and entertaining tie. City to edge it 3-2 after a 2-1 home victory and hard fought away draw. It will probably depend on how City's defense holds up.

The conundrum that is Arsenal. Can they finally put the doubters to rest? Unlikely but Wenger has always matched up well against Guardiola. Arsenal is better defensively this year so maybe if they avoid a large defeat at home they can pull of the minor upset. I want to give Wenger the chance, I think Arsenal final exorcise some demons and win on away goals.

Yes I think the premier league can make some noise this year. I still think Madrid will win the competition though.

lol Man City. You can't buy your way into the European Elite, you have to earn it.

Billions being wasted by the other team from Manchester. As much use in Europe as a three pin plug.

City isn't really in form and Demichilis shouldn't be in the back on a team with real CL aspirations. Mix in Aguero still out and it's a result that was always coming.

I can see Arsenal nicking a tie. They rarely concede at home (especially from open play) but keeping Bayern off is a tall task. I like 1-1 and then Bayern 2 or 3-1 on the return leg.

The traditional European Elite if you take into account the last 5 years (in no particular order).

Bayern Munich
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Arsenal
Manchester United
Chelsea

This is based on the last 5 purely. These teams though have to be inlcuded because of their pedigree in the tournament.
Juventus
Liverpool
Dortmund
Ajax
Inter Milan
AC Milan

The rest are trying to break into it.

Can't see City going through now. They had to score 2 at home. At half time that tie was perfectly poised. I think Demichilis actually had a great first half. It was stupid of him to bring Messi down though and it ruined it for them. I did say I thought it would depend on their defense and their weakest link let them down after 45 minutes.

Courtois making Petr Cech sweat. If Mourinho has any sense Courtois is going be his number 1 next year.

What are you showing. Robben is an overreacting twat and always has been but it was a pen and red by the rules (only thing to COULD argue is that it was going away from goal but he likely would have caught up to it).

Why is Kroos to United so unfathomable? Just proves that Kroos needs to be paid on par with Goetze and the others at Bayern. United are willing to pay him that. Kroos will definitely be open to a move if Bayern aren't willing to pay him what he is worth.

Lol at people who don't think United have the pull to attract the biggest talent.

wouldn't mind giving Kroos more than 250K a week. The guy is a like for like replacement for Scholes and is exactly what Man United need. In fact it would solve a lot of problems for United in one pass while also making RVP & Rooney infinitely happy they have someone who can deliver great service.

Considering Bayern just got €110m from Allianz I don't think paying Kroos will be an issue.

Still don't think we will get him but if Kroos wants to leave then United is definitely going to be on his list regardless of where United is in Europe. Madrid are already stacked in that department and Barca could use him as a replacement when Xavi/Iniesta call it but United are an automatic fit.

Also Arsenal played so well but choked, once again. The trend is damaging. Arsenal have the talent to turn it around but at the Allianz against a Bayern who is a lot better than last year and with Ribery back? Unlikely. Chelsea and United have the best chance to advance but I have to say I am disappointed by the English teams. Both came out strong but just lacked the composure to play well. Both now have a mountain to climb but have the ability to do so as well.

^^ lol ribs. We aren't so concerned about what pool do. They have played really well this year and deserve to be where they are. See unlike you I can give compliments to my rivals when they are deserving. Its not going to be a bitter pill to swallow at all. Its only good for English football. Its also all about the money these days and United have a lot more of that after cashing in on the CL in the last 5 years. But hey ribs, whatever helps you sleep better at night.

ribs never fails with the bitter comments, its comedy gold!
