Just got back from the game. Did our tackling look as god awful on TV as it did in person? Cause it looked preschool in person.
On the bright side, our offense has figured out how to do work. 9/6/2014 10:46:20 PM |

It looked worse on tv. 9/6/2014 11:15:56 PM |

Yeah, it looked bad. But not as bad as our pass rush looked most of the game. Smart, accurate QB's like the one at ODU will shred you if you don't get after them. Not sure why our DL is looking so pitiful these first few games, but they need to wake up.
On the bright side, the offense looks really good. Love what Dayes and Thornton are doing, and Jacoby proved he can pick up some nice chunks on the ground if he has to.
Canada gets shit sometimes, but I thought he called an awesome game. 9/6/2014 11:19:17 PM |

I don't care for this defensive scheme; not at least with a soft defensive line and secondary. Seems like an easy way to get murdered... with one or both backers in coverage or rushing, we were getting burned big time. 9/6/2014 11:44:19 PM |

Positives: Offense looked good (Dayes, Hines, Brissett, Shadrach), few penalties & TO's.
Negatives: The defense and whatever in the hell they were doing for 4 quarters. 9/7/2014 12:09:42 AM |

Maybe it was my view in the stadium or my BAC, but did we make ANY defensive adjustments in that game? 9/7/2014 7:49:36 AM |

^I think our corners started playing 9 yards off the receiver instead of 10 in the second half. 9/7/2014 7:51:00 AM |

the defensive coach looked incredibly out of it. They kept showing him on espn3. He was just looking at his sheet. 9/7/2014 9:26:51 AM |

Our defense looks about what it looked liked last year, just moved around a little to compensate for size, speed, youth, inexperience, etc. Did anyone really expect us to go from a shit-show to powerhouse in one year? I think they're a little better, but it's very obvious that the majority of the development on the team has been offensively. 9/7/2014 9:55:46 AM |

FWIW we finished the game with 0 turnovers and 1 penalty
that's some serious improvement 9/7/2014 10:01:15 AM |

Lol @ everyone saying we will change defenses.
We won't. The reason we switched to this was to help against the spread offense and prevent deep bombs.
We got raped int he first half because a team that hardly every runs the ball ran the ball.
Against the pass in the 2nd half we did a lot better.
Losing Sula at the MLB spot hurt us BAD because it limits the experience and read ability of the run at that position.
We faced a great option team in GS and a great QB yesterday...they won't change the defense.
It's like Steve logan says...the point of this defense is to hope your offense outscores theirs and get a few stops every now and then. 9/7/2014 10:53:30 AM |

^^^^Well, we've done exactly that before. The year before we had the "#1 Defense in the country" we had one of the worst defenses. The year before P-Riv was in shootouts but we couldn't stop anyone, then we lost P-Riv and the next year we have a tenacious defense. Why? Because all of those young defensive players got a year older and gained some important experience. So not unrealistic to expect some of these sophomores who started last season would be better than they are.
Personally just hate this 4-2-5 scheme we're running.

Except for a couple guys in our secondary, our defensive starters last year were almost entirely juniors and seniors. 9/7/2014 11:17:55 AM |

Offense is miles ahead of last year, although that's really not saying a whole lot. But Brissett looks good out there. Shad and Dayes are impressive as well. There are very legitimate concerns on defense...but I still think we'll get through OOC play 4-0 and can get 2 ACC wins and get to a bowl. That's very much doable.
