enjoy them while we can, who know anymore about the portal. maybe the kids go for the money, maybe they like playing for state and coach D (haha), and our NIL gives them enough money to stay.

I hope most stay, cause I like to pull for the same players for a few years, and watch them grow. those days are basically over,

This is his 3rd year.

CJ still has a year. I think he stays one more and DD coaches one last year with CJ before retiring.

A guy in front of me at the UVA game turned around after CJ's 30-yd TD run and said "Look everybody, the future SEC player of the week!"

At this point, it's impossible to predict who'll be back from year to year. Like Elwood said, I'd love for one or both of them to be back, though as JT3 mentioned, Smothers is likely headed for the NFL -- the less wear on the tread for RBs, the better. I would like to think Bailey would've gone last year if he was going to, but I do remember it being a bit testy at times. (I don't profess to be a #insider or have any knowledge other than what was in the Twitterverse, but that's my recollection).

Leaving or not, we NEED to have a plan. Smothers (380 yds on 63 rushes) and Bailey (84 yds on 21 rushes) account for 86% of our total rushing yards and 78% of our rushes -- the only other dudes with stats in the book are Duke Scott (66 yds on 19) and Will Wilson (9 yds on 4 attempts). We've obviously tried to get Scott going, but he hasn't had a ton of success on fairly generous touches. At this point I'd like to see us start looking towards someone else, but looking at the roster I have no idea who that'd be -- there's 4 other guys (a true FR and three RS 2nd/3rd years) with a combined 8 rushing yards over their careers.

Bailey has 100% of our passing yards, and you shouldn't read much of anything into our usage of Wilson so far. The roster *seems* like it's built around him being around another year, though we've made more hay with transfer QBs (McCall, Armstrong) the last few seasons than recruits anyways.

^Vtech fired their coach and immediately NCSU reached out to a few of their recruits to talk about committing, though most of those are defensive players(rogers, gillespe)

We have Jacob Smith coming in as a freshman next year at QB as well, a 3 star.

I agree that there needs to be a long look at RB and some depth added there, haven't seen anything about any RB prospects but I may be out of the loop on transfers.

I am ready to say CJ Bailey is the best QB of Doeren's tenure. And it isn't really close. Bailey > Brissett > Leary > Finley

Dude has a crazy strong arm, accurate, smart as hell, goes through his progressions better than any NC State QB since Rivers. If he sticks around another year+, he'll be in the conversation for top 5 QB all time, if not top 3.
