Yeah I think they were hinting pretty heavily that her and her daughter (or at least the daughter) were going to be sacrificed or something.

Dany's storyline is terrible, so much build up for her to just sit in a city.

After what Mance said, doesn't seem like much of a stretch for Stannis to recruit a lot of the wildling army to fight for him. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Stannis thinks as well.

They're wildlings though. They don't want to make friends. Probably figures force is the way to make them do what he wants.

was there any indication where Tyrion and Varys are headed? I can only assume they may be headed towards Dany (Varys seemed to be dialed in to the activities in her neck of the woods). Since Tyrion is essentially a pariah now that seems to be his only option.

I'd put my money on Bravos, if they actually make it there. Bravos seems like the place to go when you've been excommunicated or a fugitive from the mainland (Seven Kingdoms?)

So Arya is headed to the Wall but what happens when they get there? With the way they build up Jon Snow he's gotta leave the black one way or another to lead the North. Maybe the whole wall gets taken out or something, relieving him of his vows.

i thought once the captain said she couldn't come and they were headed to Bravos not North, she said she would go to bravos and then showed the guy the coin so he would take her.

The coin is the business card of the faceless men and valar morghulis is kinda like a pass code. Anyone from braavos knows this and it's basically a pass back to town

^it's understandable for someone to not remember the exact details of a 2 minute scene that aired in 2012, if you're referring to the coin business.

I mean, I guess. I think that is prettyeasy to remmember especially since it was a super memorable scene. But I was more referring to the destination that was stated pretty plainly this ep.

Anyway minor book question, can I storm of swords now or have they still not covered all of that? PM if that is too booky for this thread.

watching the finale now...again.

I'm halfway through and honestly enjoy it even more this time around. Not waiting for the next ball to drop and am focused more on the moment.

Observations from a non-book reader:

- The guy who is playing Mance is awesome. Really good actor.
- The formations from Stannis' army with the wall as a back drop...obviously CGI'd, but a very cool looking scene nonetheless.
- Given that we didn't see what happened to the Mountain or the Hound, there has to be a fucking battle coming with those two sometime next season or beyond
- I wish Tyrion could have had some interaction with Shae before killing her. That dialog would have been gold.
- Arya looks more and more like a dude.

I don't know.. my fiance and I both paused, looked at each other and asked, "wait, are they going to Bravos or north to the wall?", backed it up, re-watched it and then concluded that they were heading north to the wall.

We must have missed something, but I guess we just assumed that upon seeing the coin, he was willing to do what Arya had requested.

Arya might still think she's going to The Wall, but the ship is heading to Bravos.

Wasn't the line he said about the coin something like 'If ever you need me again, show this to any Bravosi and speak the words ... and they shall bring you to me'

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a short scene later on when she wakes up from a long nap and is all like 'where are we going, we're sailing east, not north'

I will say though that this:

does seem a little true...I mean look at the number of you people that were confused about the wildlings attacking from the south...and about the fire.

In their defense, Mance mentions the fire midway through in season 2.

Given how we have not even a 24 hour news cycle these days, it is a lot to expect of someone to remember something from 2 years ago.

Can people even commit phone numbers to memory these days?

I understood the whole thing with the coin, I just thought the scene in the last episode wasn't very clear on where, exactly, she was headed.

Also, somebody said something about wishing to see a dialogue with Shae - I think it was better the way it was. Not only did she throw him under the bus at trial, but she was also fucking his dad. She really was just a whore afterall. It confirmed Tywin and made him look even stupider for defending her so much. Then she tried to kill him at first glance.

Scene well done. Goodnight, sweet princess whore.

If you like this guy, I encourage you to check out Rome. It aired on HBO for two seasons back in 2005. The guy who plays Mance was Julius Caesar -- not the main character of the show but definitely an awesome show.

this article on makinggameofthrones.com states she's going to braavos, if anyone was still wondering.

HBO: So last we see, Arya is headed to Braavos. What's going through her mind?

Maisie Williams: That scene was shot at a car park in front of a green screen. It's not quite like being on a legit ship in the middle of the ocean, so to really get into that, you summarize the whole season in your head, from Day 1, getting Needle back. It's a really twisted a version of growing up and leaving home – which Arya is, but she's only 12. She looks back at her past home and a little part of her is wondering, "Should I stay?" And she turns and looks at the front of the ship, and her decision is made. "

Also, we haven't seen shit about Rickon / Osha / Shaggydog in a while.

also, for anyone who is still planning to pick up the books, I highly recommend reading the novellas Martin has written set about 100 years before this story. They are fun, quick reads and there is some insight into the guy Bran met in the tree roots.

Yeah, Rome was an awesome show and that actor is great. He also plays the Russian president in Sum of All Fear.

I take a little offense at that, as I watch the show with full attention. It's actually the only show I watch every week at the time of it's airing. And yet I was quite confused about the coin and Arya as well. Forgive me for not remembering a short scene from 2 years ago. I love the show enough to want to rewatch each season, however I don't have the time for that.

Yes they are within anthologies. I have the paperback versions of the anthologies that I got for fairly cheap on Amazon. You may be able to get Kindle versions as well.

Two of them are also available in graphic novel format.

^^Now, if you haven't even started A Storm of Swords, you will encounter at least one thing that hasn't happened on the show in the very middle: I don't consider it a major spoiler, it's just something they are saving for next season for storyline consolidation reasons.

But do not read the epilogue.

Also,Tobias Menzies played Brutus on Rome and Edmure Tully on GoT. I believe he was killed at the Red Wedding though I don't recall them showing or mention his his death.

Finally watched the last episode.

1.) Why would Varys risk his position and power to rescue Tyrion?

2.) I know about the earlier letter but how did Stannis know where to attack the wildlings?

3.) Did Arya think Brianne was a Lannister agent? Seems more risky hopping on a random boat then catching up to Brianne after the hound got his ass kicked.

Because Varys is loyal not to the king but to the realm and remembers what Tyrion did for the realm. Varys has said this several times during and since the trial.

Yeah, that's a bit of Deus Ex Machina.

Your parents are dead, all your siblings are dead or missing, your aunt is dead. I think I'd take a ship to braavos over a giant lesbian who says she's been sent by Jaime Lannister. That and she was threatening the one bit of stability she has had, Sandor.

He would've had to travel by sea, which means he would have landed at Eastwatch by the Sea, one of the Wall's 3 strongholds that are manned. I would think that the people at Eastwatch by the Sea would know what was going on via ravens, and would have ultimately passed that information on to Stannis.

Or

Just go to the other side of the wall and see what's going on.

I rewatched a few episodes with my cousin last night, who hasn't seen season 4 all the way through.

In the fifth (I think) episode when they are at Craster's Keep and the worg kid tells Bran that he has to keep going, even if he is killed and starts seeing the red tree behind Bran in a vision. The kid says that "this is not the end" and Bran asks how would he know where it ends and it shows the worg kid turning a fireball around in his hand and he doesn't really give a clear answer. I think it was really clever foreshadowing of the girl that throws the fireballs to save Bran and the girl when they get attacked by the tree. I think he saw then how, or at least where he was going to die and what was going to save Bran.

I just never noticed that the first time around.

set up the set 'em up

My wife and I just finished watching season 3.

I've read the books already and wanted to gauge her reaction to the red wedding. She was a little high (percocet from jaw surgery) so the response was minimal.
