and most basketball experts thought we are the 6th best team in the country

The reasons for ranking us 6 still hold (Lots of new and returning talent with experience and a tourney run, weaker competition)

We just aren't playing that well. We should be the #6 team by the end. There is no excuse for us not to be that good by the end.

We played pretty well on offense against a good defensive team. We just have a lot of work to do on the defensive end, and also playing smarter (limiting turnovers).

We'll get there.

^^we played one good game maybe 2 on that "tourney run". You can't take a few tournament games and expect it to turn into a whole season. We were not playing at a high enough level at any time last year to think we could be #6

last time i checked, we were "meh" for most of the regular season games last year, and all of a sudden we broke out and started busting some ass. hopefully we start showing people whats up starting january when we play ACC games.

I think we still are a very good team. Not a top 5 team but maybe top 20. Michigan is DAMN good.

A little late here, but my thought on TDT:

If his father's ill, that's terrible, and it's completely understandable that he'd leave the team to be with his family.

However, that doesn't explain any of the eno shit on Twitter that's clearly about PT. Are you telling me that he wouldn't go home to be with his sick father if he was playing ten minutes a night?

It was more than the NCAA tourney. After the gauntlet of FSU, Duke, and UNC all in a row last year we played really well. Lost to Clemson in OT, and then finished out the reg season with a few wins. Got jewed against UNC on Saturday of the ACCT after playing a great game against UVA. Went on to the sweet 16 etc.

Nothing horrible has happened this year. No bad losses, no good wins. So, our tourney resume is still in good shape. We need to win a couple games against Duke or UNC along the way and we'll probably be looking at a 5 or 6 seed. This team's not bad, but about what we should have expected.

I didn't think we'd stay at #6 or higher before ACC play started, didn't think we'd have 2 losses by now though. At least last night was encouraging. Get CJL and Zo to build off last night and we should keep improving before ACC play starts. We beat UConn and I feel like we're undefeated up until that matchup with Duke at home.

People in the media talked about the void that was created when Painter left, but its hard to argue that CJW and AJ graduating left far bigger holes as our perimiter defense with Zo/Lewis/Purvis getting burnt. I liked the more aggressive D we saw when we had to come back last night in the last 5-10 minutes.

It was the same way against UNCA, the team didn't look like it cared that it was losing until there was 5 minuted left.

Our problem used to be we'd fight hard for 35 minutes and then collapse at the end. Now we're putting ourselves in early holes and not getting intense enough to overcome it until it is too late.

I mostly agree with you, but I don't think it's a care thing. The team does not understand how good they could be if they played the entire game like they played the final 8 minutes last night.

Gott has to get a since of urgency in their heads right at tip off.

Just to put things in perspective, most of us are angry that we lost an away game in a hostile environment by 7 points to the #3 team in the nation.

Regardless of the other things, the program has come a long way.

if we're taking moral victories in a loss, the program hasn't come that far.

I'm not too disheartened by the game. Michigan played really well and we only played good for about half the game. A few things bother me and I hope/think we can fix them:

- We play sloppy too often.

- We go one-on-one just a tad too much. Sometimes it helps (mostly when CJL starts balling the fuck out)...but sometimes it hurts (kind of goes back to the "sloppy" part). Lorenzo and CJL can force it too much sometimes. Wish we could become a better passing team...and not the, "I'm barreling to the lane and trying to squeeze the ball into Howell" type passing.

- Fucking foul trouble. This is the one I'm worried about the most and don't know if we'll ever improve. Howell isn't going to magically not commit one or two stupid fouls a game. CJL isn't going to stop going after every block (this isn't as bad a problem as Howell). It almost makes me want to sub Howell out IMMEDIATELY after his first foul. Get Vandy/Warren in for 6/7 minutes...then put Howell back in. Probably a bad idea...but I would just like to try something.

^Someone mentioned this tactic to me, and it makes sense. You take him out immediately following each foul, sit him down and let him get calm. Put him back in after a few minutes. This would keep him from picking up the frustration reach-in foul 25 seconds after the legit foul.

We're kind of in an odd spot in that we need to give TBDV more play time even if he isn't productive because we need him to soak up some fouls.

...of course this presumes that he'll even remotely be in the right position to defend, which is a stretch.

i guess my point is that just b/c you take him out of the game doesn't mean he's not going to get a frustration foul ASAP when you put him back in, which is exactly what he did to get his fifth last night.

My personal theory with TBDV is that Gottfried and co. have largely ignored him because they didn't intend on giving him many minutes. Now with De Thaey gone, they'll focus on improving him a bit more.

That's the only thing I can come up with considering the offseason improvements we've seen with all the other players. Either the dude is 100% hopeless, or they just have left him in the corner all this time. I can't really see a middle ground. But you never know - maybe he'll have a Zoubek moment his senior year.

i really dont understand why he can't just focus on rebounding and defense. Rebounding is not a difficult concept to understand. You put yourself between your guy and the basket. You are 7 fucking feet tall.

We absolutely need some wins against ranked teams, which will surely come against UNC and/or Duke. That will boost our morale!
The only ranked team we have beaten this season so far is ourselves!

Don't you know that there is no "we" when it comes to being satisfied by the jersey design?
