I posted this months ago but am reposting for those with old model xbox's and warped x-clamps causing RROD. They've fixed it, but until you upgrade to the new revision mb's/chips, here's the issue:

Not sure if anyone is interested, but the Red Rings of Death are finally explained fully. MS fucked up the clamp that holds the heatsink. Lol. Nice un'.

The community basically reported that this fix works 100% of the time. Part of why the 'towel fix' worked was because the heat re soldered the part that had been warped...apparently the new board revisions (Falcon CPU .65 die) are confirmed to be in all Halo 360 special edition models. That is confirmed. Not to get off track but....

here is why the old models suffered RROD (and this includes 2nd revision Elites, or at least some of em):


Originators of the process lay the blame for the 360's hardware failure on the metal clamp that holds the heat sink over the CPU and GPU on the 360's motherboard. Composed of too soft a metal, the clamp is apparently not strong enough to ensure that motherboard doesn't bend when hot. Excessive bending will eventually break a solder connection between the GPU and motherboard, which causes the Red Eye of Death failure.

A technique known as the X-Clamp fix has been in circulation for some time now. The X-Clamp fix addresses the problem by replacing the factory clamp with new screws and spring metal washers. Various guides have been on the net for a while, but the technique has not been commonly adopted due to the hassle of matching non-standard screws and getting exactly the right clearance organized. Recently, however, some German engineers got together and have launched a $15 kit that includes just the right screws and washers to perform the procedure perfectly. Their site, X-Clamp-Fix.com, offers directions and the logic of the process. A YouTube video of the install is also out.

anyone been having issues since the update with using their ipod to play music through the 360?

i read on the internets how apple's latest upgrade to the ipods has cut the ability to stream music from the ipod to the box

and mine definitely doesnt show up anymore since they were both upgraded

yeah, from what ive read the issue in on apple's end....they both updated ROUGHLY the same time, but everyone on teh tubes of the internets is saying that downgrading the ipod firmware fixes it

The new update for dashboard says it fixed the ipod issues however it does not support ipod Touch or iPhone.

Yeah it must be an apple issue I just plugged in my 4th gen b&w iPod and works like it always has with the new 360 dashboard update.

I never use iTunes and checked and my version is still 7.1.1.5 btw

I absolutely love Super Puzzzle Fighter II Turbo, but I've also been playing it since the arcade days.

I'll vouch for Axelay on this one. I got Uno and Geometry Wars. They are both great. I might get Puzzle Fighter soon b/c I do have pts for it. Also, Alien Hominid is also a great purchase, and I love Lumines Live.

What kind of games do you enjoy?

If you like GTA style games, Saints Row is one of the best I have played, should be able to get it for under $20 online.

Mass Effect is awesome if you like RPG's.

Orange Box if you don't have those games for PC.

Oblivion should also be under $20 by now if you're into that kind of game.

they obviously dont show up if they are in the same shared directory where my WMVs and AVIs are, since .VOB files arent normally supported by the 360...I was hoping there was either some type of conversion from .VOB to .AVI I guess

wow maybe seedless was right

i used to use Media Player Classic to play .VOB files since Windows Media Player would give me the "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." message

but apparently simply renaming Test123.VOB to Test123.MPG allows Windows Media Player to play them!

later I will see if this will allow streaming from PC to 360 of VOB files cause that shit would be dope

They expedited my shipping for overnight with the second repair and I got a free accessory (the controller battery pack/charger)... should be getting it back today or tomorrow! They didn't even question what was wrong it just apologized profusely and set me right up...

Halo 3 - don't care about in the slightest, pretty much what that zero punctuation guy said about it, never really liked any of the halo games, don't own any of them.
Mass Effect - possibly interesting but probably the same as halo but a different premise
Assassin's Creed - decent idea, poor implementation
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - would rather play this on the computer if at all

as for mass effect, i've never been into rpg's on consoles much at all.



i like, flight, football, soccer, fighting, adventure, racing (realistic)

do not like, FPS games (since a looooong time ago), music games, arcade racing games, rpgs (on consoles, but overall not a very big rpg fan in general, i got bored with KOTOR II before very long).

You didn't list Dead Rising, Ace Combat 6, Gears of War, PGR 4, Forza 2, or Eternal Sonata among an impressive and awesome Live Arcade library that I can't even get into listing, there's so many now. All fabulous games within seperate genres.
