Nah, that's good. Means there's time to hit all the record stores and then grab a nice dinner before Annie goes on.

I will wait for those Race for the Cure tickets then, because I need to go to this while I'm still in Raleigh and don't know yet about Hopscotch.

Added Lincoln to the benefit show. Releasing more tix at noon. It was an easy call...

kinda wish they didn't add the lincoln show. that's just going to make it even more impossible to catch the avett brothers. oh well.

That Lincoln bill is really good if you're into that sort of thing...which is to say Tift Merritt rules.

I will most likely be selling my ticket. I don't care enough for the Avetts to be waiting 4 hours whilst treading through the likes of Jack the Radio and Filthybird just to see them. Hell, there's not even a guarantee that getting there at 7:30 will gain me access to the venue. It's pretty jacked up that they didn't move the Avetts into Lincoln. It's almost as if there's an ulterior motive or something behind booking who they did where they did...

that's actually a good point about moving the avetts to lincoln. i guess maybe they didn't want to screw over King's like that?

It reminds me of oh, say, booking Kraftwerk at a relatively small auditorium in NYC for a week straight and charging the same amount to see that as this Cancer Benefit show.

i think this is a little less subversive than that though. i think they just saw an opportunity to add another venue and increase sales/support for the cause and they took it. while from a show-planning and capacity standpoint it makes more sense to have the avett brothers play at lincoln theatre, i can definitely understand keeping the show at King's since that's where it was initially planned.

King's is a nice venue for Hopscotch, they probably don't want to piss them off.

It's. a benefit. show.

PS nobody at Kings has ever given me the impression that they're easy to piss off.

i think it's going to completely sell out regardless of where the Avetts are playing. even if King's doesn't keep a cent of the money spent at the bar, it's still great exposure for the venue so they're still benefiting from having the Avetts play there.

and yeah the people that run Kings seem really cool. i more meant it might have been kept there out of respect, rather than the fear of pissing them off, but yeah anyway. either way, i think the event will be a success. i probably won't be able to catch the Avetts even if they did play at lincoln, since i'll be coming from that ben folds show anyway.

There's also the fact that the Avett Brothers played old Kings a million times, and it's cool to have them play the new one at least once, considering they're now playing venues that are 25+ times the size.

That being said, if anyone wants a ticket, $20. PM me.

^he's right though. That was in my dark years of not paying too much attention to local music, and I really regret not seeing the Avett Brothers before the douche factor took hold...

There was a stretch there in 04-05 where they were playing Kings every two months.

Saw Radiohead for the first time in Atlanta two nights ago. They are the greatest band of all time ever to exist ever. The shit Ed O' Brien and Jonny Greenwood do is just jaw-dropping, and Thom Yorke has the most amazing voice. The funny thing about having Clive Deemer (drummer with Portishead) tour with them as a second drummer is how similar he looks to Phil Selway from a distance; they played it up, too, by wearing the same outfit, so from a distance it kinda looks like two identical drummers on opposite sides of the stage. Pretty funny.

Also, the King of Limbs tracks sounded phenomenal live, especially Morning Mr. Magpie (which was one of my least favorite tracks on the album before that show). They sounded totally different and a whole lot fuller and more upbeat live. That was a nice surprise.

^^an SO that I couldn't come to terms with was pretty big into them at the time and I think that's why I didn't bother and lost all interest in that scene in Raleigh for a while. A lot of you know this SO, I have no doubt. And she's a wonderful person. But the end of that started the dark ages of the music scene for me.

I didnt care much for it both nights we went

really liked the setup of the venue though

I guess I expected more authenticy, which in hindsight is a ridiculous thing to expect in a place like that

paint-by-numbers like whoa

Not sure I understand what you mean by "authentic." Pretentious and unapproachable? It's my understanding that it's turned into a huge scene since quite awhile ago. Another disappointment in how people can't just be themselves...

Is the Music Hall of Williamsburg the one that has a fairly nice bar area downstairs or something? Pretty sure that's where I saw the Cold War Kids like 3 years ago...I liked it as a venue. Nothing special, but the atmosphere for the show was pretty good. But yeah - most people who attend concerts in Brooklyn

An hour-long cover of "My Sharona"
George W Bush would have loved this.

You've gotta watch the video. The writeup sounds like a self-absorbed child playing a gag to entertain himself. The actual performance footage is awesome.

Wondering if anyone else on TWW has to pass up on theirs as well.
