Quote : | "A new e-mail making the rounds among Jewish voters in Pennsylvania this week falsely alleged that Mr. Obama “taught members of Acorn to commit voter registration fraud,’’ and equated a vote for Senator Barack Obama with the “tragic mistake” of their Jewish ancestors, who “ignored the warning signs in the 1930’s and 1940’s.”
...
But where most of the attack e-mails against Mr. Obama have been mostly either anonymous or from people outside of mainstream politics, this one had an unusually official provenance: It was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Republican Party’s “Victory 2008” committee.
And it was signed by several prominent McCain supporters in the state: Mitchell L. Morgan, a top fund-raiser; Hon. Sandra Schwartz Newman, a member of Mr. McCain’s national task-force monitoring Election Day voting, and I. Michael Coslov, a steel industry executive." |

Ken Adelman: Why a Staunch Conservative Like Me Endorsed Obama
Quote : | "So I've considered myself less of a partisan than an ideologue. I cared about conservative principles, and still do, instead of caring about the GOP.
Granted, McCain's views are closer to mine than Obama's. But I've learned over this Bush era to value competence along with ideology. Otherwise, our ideology gets discredited, as it has so disastrously over the past eight years.
McCain's temperament -- leading him to bizarre behavior during the week the economic crisis broke -- and his judgment -- leading him to Wasilla -- depressed me into thinking that "our guy" would be a(nother) lousy conservative president. Been there, done that.
I'd rather a competent moderate president. Even at a risk, since Obama lacks lots of executive experience displaying competence (though his presidential campaign has been spot-on). And since his Senate voting record is not moderate, but depressingly liberal. Looming in the background, Pelosi and Reid really scare me.
Nonetheless, I concluded that McCain would not -- could not -- be a good president. Obama just might be." |

Quote : | "“Last time I was here I got to tell a crowd that I had to give a national interview that didn’t go so well,” she said. “And it was because I was kind of annoyed with the questions that I was being asked because I thought they were kind of irrelevant to, you know, national security issues and getting our economy back on track, so I kind of showed some of that annoyance.”
Couric did, in fact, ask Palin several questions about the economy and national security, focusing in particular on the congressional bailout package, the mortgage crisis, John McCain’s record on regulation, the war in Afghanistan, hunting terrorists in Pakistan, Russia, Iran, Syria, Israel and the role of the United States in the world." |
I find it funny that she's now attacking Couric's line of questioning, that they weren't tough enough. Sweet Jesus. Get over the fact that you fucked up your first major interview. Couric was right to ask her about who she is, what her interests are. She couldn't have just stepped into being named the VP without people wanting to know about her.

The article isn't about this, I just thought it was hilarious:
Quote : | " The crowd was so large, in fact, that some supporters standing far back from the stage began chanting 'Louder, louder!' midway through Palin's speech after she had paid homage to military veterans in the crowd.
Palin, who assumed they were protesters, said in response to the chants, "I hope those protesters have the courage and honor to give veterans thanks for their right to protest." " |

Very telling example of the breakdown of the press's responsibility.
The Obama campaign put Biden in front of Orlando's Barbara West, one of the last journalists who understands the proper role of the press to ask the tough questions of everyone.
When asked to explain the difference between Obama's "spread the wealth" concept and Marxism, Biden sat like a deer in the headlight. All he could come up with was "Are you kidding" and "we're trying to give back tax breaks to the middle class"
It was obvious that he hadn't been properly trained to answer this question. The Obama campaign must've thought the willing press would never dare to ask his holiness such questions.
In the new spirit of "transparency", the campaign banned the station from further access to the campaign.
And if anyone has any doubts to Obama's marxist leanings, check out his 2001 PBS interview that is all over YouTube. 10/27/2008 10:53:58 AM |

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."
and
"A perfect democracy, a 'warm body' democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally has no internal feedback for self correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens...which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it...which for the majority translates as 'Bread and Circuses'
"Bread and Circuses is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader"
--Robert Heinlein

Can I say something here? This will be the last time I address this ridiculous 'spread the wealth' = socialism bullshit.
Look guys, every freaking adjustment to any tax policy is 'spreading the wealth' and redistributing wealth based on tax brackets anyway. There is heavy context with how you do this, and where the largest cuts are. But as they say, to take an inch and spread a mile here....the idea that Obama's tax policies and ideas of 'wealth redistribution' are really not that radical, they just taper similar to Clinton's tax plans in the 90s where the wealthy get hit harder and the middle class get a tax cut.
But admit it, by making this dramatic extrapolation and declaring this some big red agenda of socialism is pure fucking lunacy. It's playing to an agenda, a talking point based on fear, a way to frame Obama like every other damn democrat running for election as some socialist Robin Hood asshole who wants to give all the lazy bums on the street more money while bleeding Mortimer dry over in upscale city.
But the problem is, that's not the fucking case...and you know it. Low tax bracket people already don't pay hardly a thing, and nothing will change. What will change is the 30K-90K (roughly) salary mark where there's a cut, then the 100-250K level is roughly even, but after that, you get dinged a bit to help that first bracket. OMG SOCIALISM!@!@#! WTFBBQ. It killed us in the 90s didn't it?
You can not agree with the tax policy, and disagree gracefully...that's fine. But the charge of socialism is just a high water talking point meant to scare and irrationalize the discussion. It's crap, and these type of transparent arguments are why I think McCain is losing. 10/27/2008 12:47:27 PM |

IF people are so naive and foolish and prone to folly, what makes you think capitalism alone is viable ideal for democracy?
If people are too dumb to govern themselves, there's plenty other things they can't do. The tax rate is the LEAST of your worries if you really believe these ideas. You seem to have a problem with democracy itself.10/27/2008 1:00:48 PM |

not at all. With capitalism someone creates a product/service to fit a need. If someone can do it better/cheaper then so be it. Society benefits in the long run. That is far different from VOTING to take money from one and give it directly to you. Society will not benefit long term from this system.
As illustrated by this "that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. Obama Wins!!!!
Quote : | "SANTA FE, New Mexico (CNN) – For The New Mexico Sun News it is either a major scoop or “Dewey Beats Truman” déjà vu 60 years later.
“Obama Wins!” is the headline of the edition on newsstands now, complete with “special collector’s edition” in red bold typeface.
The Sun News is a bi-monthly newspaper and its Oct 26-Nov 8 issue had to hit the streets, and the newsstands, before the election. So the editors decided to make a leap of faith and declare Democrat Barack Obama the winner.
In an article explaining their choice, the editors unabashedly wrote, “When it comes to calling the winner of a presidential election, everyone wants to be first. The New Mexico Sun News hereby claims that achievement.”
In its tongue-in-cheek style, the article went on to note the newspaper has a goal of reaching one million readers with each edition, but prints just 10,000 copies of each of its issues.
So, “each copy must be read by 100 different and distinct people. This places an enormous burden on our intrepid readers. However, it is a burden that we must insist you carry. So, please, read quickly, care for the physical condition of the paper and pass it on to your next chosen reader.”
The liberal leaning alternative newspaper ended by imploring its readers to get out and vote, “even if we did spoil the ending for you.”" |

Palin: And...and......lessons about, um, the virtues of freedom and independence while being generous and compassionate with others. Higher taxes, more government, misusing the power to tax leads to government moving into the role of some believing the government then has to take care of us. And government (boos from the audience) kinda moving into the role as the other half of our family making decisions for us. Now they do this in other countries where the people are not free. " |
