A man was driving when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding... Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed.
Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed. He tried a fourth time with the same result. He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail's pace.

Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt. You just can't fix stupid.

Yeah...I looked at it more after we gave it, and I really started wanting it.

The thought process was "What would *I* have wanted/used/found helpful 3 years ago?" (roughly when I started baking/cooking in earnest and getting more skilled). And then after that: she's younger than me. Our generation doesn't use cookbooks so much anymore - we get our recipes online. Technique and folk knowledge is a lot harder to google...so that book was a fantastic choice. Even all the aunts went bananas

^^ i know!! i use online recipes for stuff i'm comfortable with or for new out on a limb type things (mostly ethnic food) but for things i KNOW are already good i just use my mom's old recipes because she was an amazing cook

but again, the technique is the kicker! cause that isn't included in many recipes haha. and i don't have her to call up and ask soooo i'm learning on my own - trial by error! i mean i haven't ruined anything yet, i'm not a moron - but i don't know all the answers either. my apple cobbler was pretty dank and got lots of compliments! she had a yummy banana bread recipe so i'm using that. and then her chili was good but i like to modify and add more spice + beans. she wasn't a bean person and i like spicy.

i am buying that book right now hahaha.

I got a barnes and noble gift card. I'm going to either buy that, or a weekly calendar of the national parks with the old WPA adverts.

do you have shortening/crisco? this one fits best:

chocolate pound cake (scratch)
1/2 lb butter (yikes haha)
1 c. crisco
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 c. milk
3 c. cake flour (i dunno if all purpose will work, i hope so!)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tbsp vanilla

cream shortening add sugar then eggs, sift dry ingredients together and add alternating w/ milk bake in greased and floured pan

300 to 350 for one hour
