Was being completely facetious with the rant above as a preemptive strike on the assumed negativity from the !!! Show last night but I didn't realize continently and some of you others didn't go. Well, jolly Roger, silly hat and Thurman Munson are kinda annoying, but the rest was troll bait. Lol.

Looks like Memoryhouse had a few thousand dollars worth of gear stolen in DC after playing only their 2nd show on tour with Washed Out, and just one day after their show at the Cradle. Among the losses was a $600 strymon timeline guitar pedal. Yowzers. I hate musical thieves.

apples and oranges.

do you think there was a nefarious intent by Hopscotch to kill off Troika? the Cradle were (not sure if they still are), taking losses on shows just to ensure their competition didn't make as much money.

they were the established venue, bullying the newer venues. Troika had been around for years.

earlier you also question why that would be a bad thing. i felt it was obvious in my earlier posts, but to spell it out, i believe it to be a "bad thing" because it diminished competition. they essentially had a monopoly on all indie acts touring the Triangle, and when they were challenged, they squeezed them out or forced them to switch their target bands/genres.

when the Orange Peel opened up, i've heard stories about how the owner was pissed at them snagging acts, and that's 3.5 fucking hours away.

like i said earlier, it's business, but you can run a business and not be a complete sabotaging asshole especially when they were, are and will likely always be the more dominant enterprise.

So...what happened as of late? There's 3 venues that popped up in Durham, more in Raleigh, and one in Saxapahaw as well. Did the dude just...give up?

Really glad homeboy didn't run Motorco into the ground, because that !!! show, was, in fact the best show I've seen in a while. Dunno why I was expecting someone to legitimately complain about it, but I see vinylbandit didn't attend.

Slims is the best place that's "not a venue" that books shows on average of five times a week, has a website to purchase tickets to said shows, and a twitter/facebook page to promote them, is among Hopscotch "venues", and hosts band residencies. It's so weird they "aren't a venue..."

I continue to not enjoy Bear in Heaven. melodies and hooks go a long way, and that band has none

I didn't like the new BiH album.

So I went to Slim's and saw Last Year's Men for the Nth time. They ruled as usual. Also, Roomrunner is really loud (and good).

So does slims book these people or do they just show up and mark's like "oh yeah set your stuff up on "stage" over there?"

Yeah, new BiH album is garbage. I went to the Beach Boys last night, it was exactly as corny as one would expect but a lot of fun.

My Morning Jacket Sunday 8/26 at Raleigh Amphitheatre. I highly recommend everyone go to this, even if you aren't a fan of the band's albums.

Slim's does their own booking. Occasionally someone else will book a show, like DiggUp Tapes, Layabout Craig, Kings, or Hank Williams (local hardcore promoter).

Bought my day pass for the Sunday of this festival.

Can't wait to see Metallica, Slayer, Mad Caddies, and Russkaja

It'll be my second time seeing Metallica (well 3rd if you count seeing them play St. Anger at an awards show in 2003), but my first time seeing the other 3. I really love/hate the Mad Caddies because they literally play in Europe more than they do the East coast. So I've liked them for 7+ years and they've never been even remotely close once.

And then Russkaja is a weird Austrian/Russian/German band that my friend found out about like 6 years ago when he was in Europe and randomly bought their CD.

I suppose it's not totally outrageous for a benefit featuring a big comedian, another comedian, 3 musical acts and a comedian's fiancee. and a poster

I guess

Jonny Lang will be playing at the Carolina Theater on 16 May. He hasn't been to NC in a couple years and hasn't realeased an album in over 6 years! So it really sucks that I am going to be out of the country on the 16.

I also notice that John Tesh is booked for the Carolina Theater on 15 Sept. Get your tickets Now!!!

Beach House murdered it/slaughtered it/committed genocide amongst our peoples. Surprised I'm the first to say that, but maybe I'm the roach.

In other news, the Rosebuds I think are going to be this band that people are going to appreciate so much after the fact. I seriously get Boxcar now.

saw lower dens on friday. didn't enjoy it that much, but it was probably more because i had to hang around the back waiting on a guy who didn't show up til the show was halfway over, and there were a lot of people who were just talking really loud. i hate that shit. don't go to a show if you just plan on talking to your friends the entire time. god damn it.
