He may be trolling and still be right. I think we need to cheat more. I understand why we don't cheat like other top P5 programs do. I'll be hard pressed to find a unique situation like ours- 2 other elite athletic programs in a 10 mile radius and the associated media/fanbase/scrutiny that comes with it.

All i'm saying is that in all likelihood (IMHO), all power 5 sports programs circumvent the rules in various ways trying to get a competitive edge. You hear stories all the time about programs getting a slap on the wrist here and there for various violations. And obviously not all the violations get caught. So it happens more than what gets reported. I think its pretty naive for anybody to feel that their particular alma mater is special in this regard.
Some do it more than others. UNC took it to an extreme, but I doubt they are the only program to take it this far honestly.
That being the case, it is extremely depressing that we are the only power 5 conference school in the entire country, that has not won a conference championship in either football or basketball in the last 20 years.
(I think maybe SoCar joins us as the 2nd bottom dweller without bball or football conference titles, but they've at least won a baseball title in that time period.)
Alternatively, this could mean that everybody else is cheating, and State isn't, which is equally boneheaded and depressing that we're dopey enough to blindly follow the letter of these dumb laws, while everybody around us merrily vacuums up all the titles, accolades, and hookers. But I choose to believe we are better than that.

i hope we aren't cheating, but if we are - fine, show it and punish accordingly (and, lookin at you NCAA, -fairly-) uncch's era of widespread cheating is exposed, yet nothing actually gets done to address it. quite honestly if they really do get away with it all... i'm totally on board with ncsu cheating just as much -- maybe after a couple of decades the field might be closer to being level (but it wouldn't ever be)

My friend and I met some girls that went to Boston College, and they were telling us about how they were part of the "welcoming committee" that would hang out with recruits and "show them a good time". They themselves were on some sports team, field hockey maybe (although they were actually pretty hot). I suppose they weren't actually hookers though. I'm sure that happens at every school. They also told us how they were encouraged to be bulimic, and were even given advice on how to do it in a "healthy" way, and how not to lose their teeth. 3/30/2016 4:43:21 PM |

Quote : | "UNC-Chapel Hill, which is under investigation for fraudulent classes involving athletes, has maintained that students were not subjected to a limit on independent studies until the 2006-07 academic year.
That stance appears to have narrowed one key part of the NCAA’s investigation.
But a new document released by university in March shows that the limit on independent studies started before 2003. Other evidence suggests that the limit was in place since the early 1990s.

The notice said from the fall of 2006 to the end of the 2010-11 academic year, 10 athletes exceeded the limit, which was an impermissible academic benefit under NCAA rules.
But if the limit has been in existence much longer, it could capture 140 more athletes who had exceeded it, according to a spreadsheet in the NCAA's exhibits...
Jay Smith was among those interviewed in the NCAA investigation. The notice cites his position on the 12-hour independent study limit. Smith told the N&O that he confirmed to the NCAA that the limit had been in place long before the start of the 2006-07 academic year." |

I love all the media attention its getting but in the end it does not mean a damn thing once UNC wins another title that although it should be vacated immediately just because of the fact all of the cheating over several decades led directly to them having this team, it never will be and the punishment will be so light we will have to deal with smug UNC fans saying see look even the NCAA said we hardly did anything wrong. 4/1/2016 10:14:42 AM |

What's really annoying is all the happy, feel-good stories that are spawning off UNC's latest trip to the Final Four.
I've seen one story about a four-year-old toddler who had a dream to be a Tar Heel cheerleader for the basketball team, and now 18 years later, she's doing it in Houston!
And I saw something yesterday about how Rameses fathered twin lambs that were just born...RIGHT IN TIME FOR THE FINAL FOUR.
It's all pretty hilarious.

Big things happening over on packpride.
They are using McCants transcript as a weapon against UNC's own policy that you can't take more than 2 Independent studies at a time against UNC...
McCants was enrolled in 3 independent studies courses the spring of 05...and guess what happened then?
They also believe that other transcripts from earlier would support this same model...back to the 80s. 4/1/2016 8:40:36 PM |

I'm hopeful that UNC will get hammered and it might actually be a good thing that UNC is in the championship game. It is definitely information about their cheating to the public and putting a little more pressure on the NCAA to actually hand out a punishment since more people are getting exposed to the details and more media members are pressing the issue nationally.
It just sucks that all week the talk was these kids had nothing to do with it so let's just focus on the game. I have accepted the fate at this point. I used to watch college basketball constantly but as all of this stuff has progressed this season I am to the point I honestly just don't care anymore about it. I will watch the first half and UNC will probably be up double digits at the half and I will just goto bed. The sport isn't worth watching when it has been proven that someone cheated for 20+ years and still was allowed to play for a title this year and will get such a minor punishment in the end. The NCAA is going to be worthless after this and college sports are going to become minor league teams where those with the most money are always good and we are going to fall further behind. In the future we will all look back at the time when UNC ruined the sport of college basketball for everyone else for a couple national titles. 4/4/2016 8:42:20 AM |

I think the randomness is more frustrating than anything. I see what UNC did and think this is pretty bad, especially compared to what other schools have been hit with over the past few years that seem to be minimal in comparison. Then nothing happens to UNC. And it isn't even just "name brand" vs. not. USC I thought got hammered pretty hard with the football program back with Reggie Bush, in my opinion especially at that time, a comparable brand within the NCAA. They just pick and choose random times to make examples of schools and then other times little to nothing at all.
If you self report/self-punish sometimes you get let off easy, and other times you should have just stayed quiet because you get punished even more. I get every situation is different so it is hard to create a universal punishment system, but they are just all over the place. Whole system is a joke, and it appears it is just best to cheat and ask for forgiveness. 4/4/2016 9:58:50 AM |

It's still too early to know that. UNC can still get shit on. Maybe they won't, but they should, and it still wasn't even supposed to happen for another month or so I think. Yeah, they're even shittier for dragging it out until they could win another NC, but I feel like that's probably what they should have done in the circumstances, we just hate them so we want them to be punished ASAP.
Maybe Roy just thinks he won't get any punishment because he's retiring, and forgets that that is the reason and not because they weren't mentioned. 4/4/2016 10:19:18 AM |

Best case: UNC loses tonight and then gets '05 and '09 vacated ('93?). Roy has 0 titles
Worst case: UNC wins tonight and MBB skates. Roy has 3 titles
