yup. Pretty sure she had to get out of her passenger side since there's no way she could've gotten her door open. She's also been here less than a month and stolen my parking spot all but maybe 3 days.

You should leave a "You Park Like An Asshole" sheet on her car. I do that to my coworkers. All but one have corrected their ways.

my boss keeps hiring foreign nationals. over and over. he doesn't even tell me and then I get an email forward from them asking how/when they are being paid and he just tells them to ask me. They do, and I find out they have been working for a month or two and have accrued several hours that they deserve to be paid for. not only have they been working without being registered in the system (w9 forms, etc.) but because they are foreigners the university can't legally pay them, so I have to arrange honorariums in the form of gift certificates. These people get PISSED (reasonably, as I would also) when I tell them I have to send them an $800 gift certificate instead of money.

several other departments we work with have told him he cannot do this. it has happened several times. he's a smart guy, just overlooks it I guess.

At my other job, I think that burnt popcorn smells in the cubes all the time is the biggest annoyance. it's always the same people, every day.

having to walk through a list of tests I ran with the QA guy who refuses to believe that the shit doesn't pass the tests I sent. Nevermind that it's the same list of fucking tests I've sent in three different emails, or that it's the exact same list of tests listed on the requirements email sent by someone else to everyone involved. My table lists the action I took, what I expected to happen, and what actually happened. And every time, he emails me back in 5 minutes and says "it works fine," at which point I call him up, we go through the tests EXACTLY as they are given in my email, and we prove, again, that my results as listed in the email are correct.

and this fucker is in QA. what the fuck, dude

So we're undergoing a remodel, and they relocated all the offices to a central workstation area, not quite cubicals, but close. This is fine, I almost never spent time in my office anyway. However my desk is one of the only ones with a computer. 3 times in less than a week I have come in for my 3rd shift start time and found old cups of coffee left on my desk.

I feel like Bill from Newsradio.

Great workshop I can attend covering our Data Centers. It's a BYO lunch and it's the day of my last shift of a 6 in a row 3rds. I'll be there, but I'm may fall asleep during the middle of it.

So we moved offices at my side job. We still occupy the old space, but it is becoming storage. My new office is nice, and new, but I haven't had time to transition. So all of last week, I worked in the old space and it was fucking awesome. No distractions, music, just me. Then it hit me, I had to move or I would become this guy:

Chick who is basically my counterpart in another department: "Oh so I came up with this great idea for the new student orientation we could implement but it takes a lot more time and effort than what we normally do!"
Me: "Okay whatever, it's your bag so do what you want."

Next day

Boss: "So that chick told me she has this super awesome idea but she doesn't really know how to implement it. I like the idea so I'm now making it your job to do it and taking it away from her because she's incompetent and will probably screw it up."
Me: FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Look, we got this pretty cool contract, so go ahead and become an expert real quick and make this miracle-esque product, k? Meanwhile we'll go ahead and lol at how we call it a technical team in meetings with these companies, ha ha ha

Oh and btw this other completely different product is coming down next week and it needs your attention too

They introduced a cumbersome, confusing tool to enter our activities in and spent about 5 minutes explaining it. This will end well.

It's been a long, busy week at work. And Fridays are usually fairly slow. Unfortunately this Friday we're going on a "field trip" all day...from 7:30am-6pm. Oh boy. And I just found out about it today.

Woman cancels tutoring with 30 minutes notice because she was too lazy to do GRE practice, then gets upset when I tell her she will have to prepay before scheduling any more lessons. I explain (to stop her bitching) that when students chronically cancel and don't pay I'd be better off making minimum wage at McDonalds, and then she claims I'm being "unprofessional" for not putting up with her bullshit.

FYI, I have the same cancellation policy as my dentist and doctor, and am more lenient that most tutors/tutoring companies.

aha well my BFF just made me feel better about my workday. She works for a non-profit that organizes high school student exchange trips between Japan, China, and the US. Apparently some tin foil hat people found out about an exchange trip they've organized between high schools over here and high schools in northern Japan and they're flipping the fuck out because her organization is "sending children to slaughter to be irradiated by the power plant all for the sake of Japanese government PR." She's been getting nonstop phone calls from some online protest campaign they've mounted and now she's having to let all her phone calls go straight to voicemail

^^ Yeah she did a search and was able to find the forum where these moonbats called for a phone protest. It's pretty hilarious reading what they're saying about the program and my friend. I feel bad for her since I'm sure it's annoying as hell but I can't help but laugh.

We have a serious crunch time with quarter end coming up. 3 weeks of uninterrupted shit that is going to be super stressful.

Last QE we grunts all filled in our time worked on each individual project to give management a better idea of how we're spending our time. We were told that was the only QE we were going to have to do it.

Find out that the dumbfuck senior manager they just hired wants us to do it again, even though there will be no measurable difference in our time from this QE to last QE. He just wants us to do it just to go through the motions.

Christ.

At 4:45pm today the fire alarm went off. It wasn't a drill because we didn't receive any warning, so we all went outside and waited. As the fire truck pulled up we heard the tip-off that the fire alarm was triggered by some idiot on his phone near the break room who was "absentmindedly" fiddling with the damn fire alarm when suddenly it went off!

I was hoping it would have been some of the employees at any company but mine but no, we had to inconvenience the hundreds of other people who work in our building on any given day.

I get asked to fabicate a "prototype" based on a design. I create and submit for approval.
About a week passes without any response or feedback. Boss asks today why I haven't started on the final product. I explain I never got the the approval/go-ahead. Boss tells me I didn't need approval in the first place. Communication failure. Don't tell me to make a "let's see how this looks" model if you just wanted the final product all along.

I mean listen to this shit

We deploy updates to our app on Sundays and Wednesdays (coincidentally this is why I'm on TWW until 1am on these days). This afternoon, I get an email from the QA lead: "Ernie, high-priority defect #whatever is assigned to you and needs to be in today's build." I fix that shit and we build to our testing environment. I get another email that that shit is in fact not fixed and I start working again. Not five fucking minutes later, the very same QA lead emails that the build has passed testing and is ready for our staging environment. All the while I'm still working on the fucking defect he was busting my balls over earlier. I fix it better this time, we patch it up and everything is cool.

An hour ago, two hours before we deploy to production, I get an email that there's another display issue in the area I was working on earlier. I'll be fucked if I can replicate that issue in any environment. I email the QA lead and the rest of the dev team explaining that I don't see this ghost, but I went ahead and checked in a fix that might fix it were to actually exist in the first place. 500+ words I put in that email, explaining the entire inner workings of the control, how I've spent all week building and testing it, and how I've never before--and certainly not now--seen the defect that's being reported.

500+ words. A fucking Mein Kampf it was. The response from the QA lead: "I have a screenshot."

God fucking shit hell
