You have to graduate JuCo before you can go to a NCAA school I believe. If you can do that in one year then you can be out in one year, but it takes most people 2 years.

Aren't Tyson Chandler, A.J. Ferguson, Raynard Randolph enrolling this year? A.J. Ferguson enrolled in the spring semester. They were committed for the c/o '09 but went to military academies and are enrolling one year later.

I guess it just depends on the situation. Tobais Palmer has been in military school for like 15 years.

Are we in the mix for Willie Young's younger brother Avery. I ran across an interesting article on him, and I was wondering if he was considering the Pack at all for after he graduates from HS?

The first time Willie Young awoke to the sound of his son's screams, he feared the worst.

"Dad! Dad! Dad!" he heard around 2 a.m.

Panic attack? Heart attack? Could he breathe? Young followed the yells through the dark to the bedroom of his then-10-year-old, Avery, who was in too much pain to get out of bed. His heart was not the problem, thankfully, and he was breathing fine, but he felt like there was a knife in every joint in his body.

Growing pains.

"I got some alcohol and rubbed all his joints for him," Willie Young said. "When he was younger, he always used to complain about pain in his joints.

"As he got older, it got worse. It was scary, but the doctor told me that was normal for oversized kids."

Oversized by most standards, but at 6-feet-6 1/4 and 265 pounds, 17-year-old Avery Young has the ideal physique to play left tackle.

He engulfs pass rushers in an overwhelming 84-inch wingspan. He bench presses more than his weight. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.97 seconds and, shirtless, he could pass for a linebacker or tight end.

Young is wrapping up his sophomore year at Palm Beach Gardens, and coaches already speculate that he could be the No. 1 recruit in America by the time he signs with a college in 2012.

Despite Palm Beach Gardens not having any obvious BCS prospects in its junior or senior class, major college coaches have visited practices this month and could be at Friday's spring game at Glades Day.

The NCAA prohibits coaches from contacting high school players until Sept. 1 of their junior year, but several of the nation's most prominent programs already have expressed interest.

"One coach said, 'I'm not leaving here until you tell him he's offered,'" Palm Beach Gardens coach Chris Davis said. "I've never had that happen before."

Not even when he coached University of Florida offensive linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey as an assistant at Lakeland High. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Maurkice 18th overall last month, and Mike could be a first- or second-rounder in 2011, but Davis believes Young will eclipse both.

Young is a product of blessed genetics.

His father, a former nose tackle at the old Twin Lakes High, is 6-feet-4. His mother, Toni Culbreth, is a 6-foot-2 former high school basketball player.

Both of Avery's brothers, including former Gardens standout and current Detroit Lions rookie Willie Young Jr., are 6-feet-5 or taller.

From early childhood, Avery was on a similar trajectory.

"From kindergarten to where I'm at now, I've always been the tallest person in line," he said.

After his parents split, Young moved back and forth between his mother's home in Cuthbert, Ga., and his father's in Riviera Beach. He has lived with his dad continuously since middle school.

In youth football, Young played for his father and usually lined up at defensive tackle. Willie Young occasionally called timeouts to tell his son to ease up on the other kids, but eventually stopped wasting his time and just let him go.

Willie Jr., who played at North Carolina State, also helped Avery's development. Despite their seven-year age difference, Avery has been able to keep pace with the grueling workouts that helped his brother become a seventh-round draft pick.

"He worked the living hell out of him and he hung right in there," their father said. "He wants to follow his brother's footsteps. His brother's succeeded and he has to prove he's right behind him."

Avery Young never played offensive line until former Gardens coach Kevin Fleury started him there as a freshman.

the day is coming when pro sports stars are going to be manufactured as opposed to born. Acme Corp will take sperm samples from the current year's all star teams at a cool million per jerkoff: stud fees. Then an entire medical industry (think what vets do for horses and what not to get them to procreate) will arise to help such unions advance. And after about 3 generations/iterations of this, you'll have super athletes i.e. 3 generations of men and women born from these types of engineering then they have kids, woah. I guess the movie Gattaca was like this, sortof. but i digress...

Tom O'Brien's and Elliott Avent's staff needs to go ahead an give this guy a scholarship when he reports to State's football camp, adn since he's a pitcher as well with a 0.98 ERA then i hope this kid is on Avent's radar:

RALEIGH -- Brian Taylor struggles to name a favorite sport between football, basketball and baseball.

“Whatever I’m playing best at the time,” said Taylor, a three-sport standout at Harnett Central High School.

For much of his life, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Taylor has ignored the outside voices telling him he needed to pick one sport over the others. He’s eschewed the popular “specialization” trend and became a throwback of sorts, developing talents as a quarterback, pitcher and forward.

It’s true that college football scouts are watching him the closest – with offers from North Carolina, Clemson and East Carolina – but he loves all three sports.

The junior has been named The News & Observer prep male athlete of the year after guiding the Trojans to the finals of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A state football championship game. He also scored 15 points per game for the basketball squad and produced a .480 batting average this spring for the baseball team.

With an ERA of 0.98, he finished the season 5-0 as a pitcher and blasted 10 home runs, earning the Greater Neuse River Conference pitcher of the year award.

Taylor’s on-the-field talents are widely known, though they are often overshadowed by his academic success. He carries a 4.3 grade-point average and has never earned less than an A on any report card.

“His work ethic is unbelievable, not only on the field but in the classroom, too,” former Harnett Central football and baseball coach Marc Morris said. “He puts in the time and effort.”

The first sport Taylor learned was soccer as a youngster. He honed his athleticism on the pitch before a middle school basketball coach suggested he trade soccer for football in high school. The coach thought football would help make him stronger for basketball.

“It kind of worked out,” Taylor said.

Taylor’s strength, speed and passing ability were certainly on display during the 2009-10 football season when he led the Trojans to their first state championship game against Asheville Reynolds at N.C. State’s Carter Finely Stadium.

The Trojans fell 14-13 but not before Taylor completed 18 of 29 passes for 194 yards, running his season passing marks to 2,004 total yards and 16 touchdowns. He gained another 1,000 yards rushing and scored 11 touchdowns on the ground.

His efforts paced the Trojans to a 15-1 record, ownership of the Greater Neuse River Conference title and the best season in school history.

Of course, a football team has many players who impact the game in numerous ways. Still, Taylor’s fingerprints were left all over their championship run.

The Trojans defeated Southeast Raleigh 36-22 on Oct. 30 and again in overtime 27-21 in the playoffs on Nov. 20. Taylor impressed Bulldogs’ coach Daniel Finn with his control as an option quarterback.

“He didn’t make a mistake,” Finn said. “And very few bad decisions. He made the right read every time.”

Those decisions led to four playoff victories, more than the school had won combined in previous seasons.

“Long season,” Taylor said, “but it was still fun.”

To play three sports, considering the time commitment, the games must provide a little merriment. The seasons overlap and Taylor often finds himself practicing one sport while playing the other. Basketball, which he plays entirely for fun, offers the least congested season.

“It doesn’t wear on me too much,” he said. "There’s always weekends where I’m not doing anything in the wintertime.”

The summertime, however, is another story. On Friday, the last day of school, Taylor traveled to Clemson for a football camp, jump-starting what promises to be a busy summer break.

This month he’ll attend football camps at N.C. State and Wake Forest. Over the summer, he’ll attend four days of school football practice per week. On weekends, he’ll travel with a showcase team to baseball tournaments. In his spare time, he’ll play pickup basketball games.

“I’ll get some time off,” said Taylor, referring to a family trip to Walt Disney World.

Keeping such a harried pace has not affected Taylor’s studies. He’s ranked fourth in his class after taking two advanced placement courses – U.S. History and Statistics – along with honors English this year.

Taylor worked on a U.S. History class project about World War II that he found rewarding. He was asked to write a personal essay about the generations who participated in the war and lived through that time. He interviewed his grandfather, R.S. Taylor, who was born during that period.

“I said that they were the greatest generation namely because they were more than willing to fight for the country,” he said.

That homework assignment, as well as others, never seemed to clash with a hectic athletic schedule. He made straight A’s again.

A mathematics lover, he said school comes naturally to him, something like throwing a ball. He listens closely in class and takes exams seriously.

“I always do my homework,” he said. “And I’m nice to the teachers. That all adds up.”

The kid is talented, but I don't know how well his skills will translate at the college level. HCL runs a lot of option plays and he can move, but I'm not so sure that he's "fast". Because of the offense, I can't tell if he has happy feet and is more inclined to run. I also wonder if he's patient enough to go through his progressions.

The kid makes for an interesting prospect, but he doesn't strike me as the type to go to State. I think he's more likely to be UNC bound if he had to choose between the two of us. He probably would stand a better chance of cracking the depth chart, considering UNC's crappy QB play.

He'd be a really nice pickup for the baseball team. We lost Buchanan to the draft and are likely to lose Bradley (our top pitching recruit) as he got drafted in the 2nd round. We need pitching bad.

With the loss of Everett Proctor from the QB squad due to his shoulder injury, do any of you think we should take 2 QBs in this class? If so who do you think we should take? We have offered 3 QBs so far. Braxton Miller the #1 QB nationally, but he's going to tOSU, Marquise Williams the #15 QB nationally has taken us out of the running, and Stephen Rivers the #27 QB is supposedly SEC bound.

A few QB names that keep coming up are Garrett Leatham, John Loughery, Brian Taylor, and Lamar McKnight. I believe all attended our camp.

I still don't understand how we could go from leading for that Councell kid to not even being in his Top 4 in just a month.

I agree that Jared Barber, #29 MLB nationally, would be a good pickup. He's an in-state kid and has good size at 6'2" 220 lbs. What I'm impressed with is that he he runs a 4.6 40, which is good for a MLB.

This year's class is loaded with talent. It sucks that so much of it is leaving the state.

It just doesn't make sense. Players say "oh well (insert NC school here) isn't very good" and that's why they ultimately ended up going out of state. If they just realized that if they all teamed up and stayed in-state then at least one of the schools would end up being good. I think we were fairly successful last year with respect to in-state recruiting b/c we got Crisp so early and other big time players decided to follow suit.

The problem with that is that you're basically taking one scholarship and guaranteeing it stands on the sideline with a clipboard, unless three other QB's get hurt at the same time. And you;re gonna have a hard time getting two guys in one class that are both good enough, and getting both enough practice reps.

Just pick the one you think will work out the best, and get that guy. Roll the dice with Glennon, Brosius, and Fr QB #1 not all getting hurt at the same time, because if it does you're screwed anyways.

Several of them do have around 10+, but I found this out today and it made me feel a little better:

Miami, Boston College and Va. Tech only have 4 commits each. VT just added their 4th TODAY. Wake Forest just added their 5th on Monday. So I guess we're in the ballpark at least.

On a sad note, Clemson has 15 commits, including two top 10 RB's in the country.

Just finished watching the defensive highlights for Juston Burris. Some positives I saw were that he seems to be really good at locating the ball in the air, which helps him be in position to make a play on the ball. He often times goes for the interception, and when he does there is a good chance that he will be able to return it. He also has good size at 6'3" 185, and should easily be able to put on some more weight on his frame. His tackling is pretty good. The only thing I see as a potential negative is that he sometimes tries to go for the big hit which can both be a positive and a negative. Big hits show aggressiveness, can fire up the crowd, and can jar the ball loose, but they can also hurt you in that a good ACC WR can make you look like a fool sometimes if you try that too often.

Overall I think he'll be a decent safety for us down the line.
