I don't care about Duke's academic standards, they're pretty much the best basketball program of the last 25 years, I'd say that makes them a top-5 job

any school will make some academic exceptions for athletes

I can't remember the last poor star that went to Duke. They pretty much only get rich kids who can meet the academics. K being the best coach of all time doesn't change anything.

Sean Dockery was poor and could not read. There really isn't elevated requirements academically for basketball.

you can't coach defense at all. theres no excuse to ever be this bad defensively. Harvard, Southern and every other team in the country can sustain defense through the first pass.

We can't even make a pass. 3 times lateral passes on the perimeter have been intercepted without any pressure. all goes on coaching.

agreed - this team's talent was overrated, so of course their performance will be.

Brown was expected to be able to shoot a consistent 3.
CJL was expected to be ACC POY caliber - but turned into an even worse headcase
Wood can't shoot without a perfect pick being set for him. Otherwise useless on offense.

TJW and Howell are the only bright spots for Gott in year 2

Not that a better coach wouldn't have done better with this group, but it's pretty clear that the talent was way overrated. Richard Howell was our best player this year and he's a borderline pro at best.

Hard to complain too much after making the tourney for the second straight year. He had that automatic extension for making the tourney clause in his contract for a reason. Still, I think we had the talent to have had a much more successful season.

I'm looking forward to seeing where we go from here. We could continue making the tournament and improve, or we could implode and fall all the way back into mediocrity. Time will tell. Lousy day. Go Pack.

I dont think there is any getting around the sheer disappointment that we all feel after this season, but having been there in the pre-Hodge era and watching seasons where we struggled even to qualify for the NIT, I will take the disappointment of getting bounced in the tourney over the lack of care for a perennial ACC cellar dweller.

Anybody complaining about this season must not remember what the seasons of the 90's were like, you have no idea how ugly the rotten years were. I'm excited about the future of this program because of Gott, Purvis, Warren, Lewis, the LSU transfer that will play next season, and the awesome recruiting class we have coming in this year and next year. Keep in mind they pretty much lost out on a year of recruiting with a coaching change which hurts depth big time.

What I worry about is seasons like this can kill forward momentum for a program trying to get back on track. Duke and Carolina can afford a disappointing year from time to time. We had a chance to make a big push this year and instead went backwards. Big time recruits want to go to a proven winner not a team that doesn't meet expectations. We will now see in the next few years if Gott can develop talent as our recruiting is going to begin dropping off I believe.
