^^never tried. heard of it. would imagine that it would be difficult. since more than just blurryness chances when something is out of focus.
but i have heard of it.
so i'm thinking about making a background stand.... this could be interesting. 12/1/2008 9:10:08 PM |

Kinda depends on the lens you're using, how many aperture blades it has, and what shape the overall aperture ends up being. You could end up with the same DOF as someone else but their lens may produce more circular bokeh, which is what most people consider the most pleasing to the eye. 12/1/2008 10:06:21 PM |

that is absurd
but not nearly as absurd as this thread's newfound inability to make it a page without a certain someone mentioning some deal/service at a certain not-so-moderately priced camera shop
here's my motto - if you're going to buy from a relatively faceless corporation, you might as well get the best deal
and that walkie talkie setup is the hella sweet shiznit12/1/2008 11:00:58 PM |
Woodfoot All American 60354 Posts user info edit post |
oh, and you have to stage the christmas lights to get adequate bokeh
an individual strand of lights is going to have the lights too close together to get that difference between DOF
so set up 1 or 2 lights closer to your lens, and set up a second "dummy" strand a good distance behind
and you def want to be somewhere between 80 and 120mm deep
thats my two cents there 12/1/2008 11:22:08 PM |

I'm drooling over my new cam. I can't wait to really try it out this weekend.
This was taken at night, indoors, in VERY low light (only light was from a room off of the one I was in). Pretty much horrid conditions. ISO6400 f/1.4 1/160 sec
I wanted a daylight shot, so I took this one this a.m. ISO200 f/3.5 1/30sec (yes, handheld!) I could have bumped up the ISO (and should have) to ensure the shot didn't come out blurry due to my hand moving, but I wanted to try out the base ISO (and thankfully Kya didn't move!)

oh I'll hang on to this baby for the rest of my life, I'm sure It was between it or the D300, but the lowlight capability of the D700 is what really won me out. It feels great in my hands (its not much bigger than the D300) and is really well built. Plus...its ff! I'm gonna throw my 24-70 on it this weekend to see what it can do And while I really want the 70-200, I figure I'll wait for an update to it because I'm hearing mixed results about its current performance when used with the D700.
now I just need the 85 f/1.4, a micro, and a nice tele oh if it were to only rain $$$
ps. ref the ISO6400 shot of my dog, I don't use noise ninja, or any other noise reduction software/plug-ins, other than what is in cs3. I probably end up purchasing something at some point, but for now, I'll deal with the little noise that is there

I haven't set it to auto yet, but its def an attractive option! I've only had it for about 15hrs, and part of that was spent reading the manual, charging the battery, taking a few test shots, and, well, sleeping. Lol. 12/4/2008 12:07:35 PM |

Here's some pics that I took last month at the Harvest party. Didn't have time till this week to edit and photo touch them. This was done at the Five Star club with a beauty dish left of camera. I've only used the beauty dish like 3 times in the last year.

Cool, trashy bitches half-dressed in some weird shit.
What kind of "party" is this? And why? I just don't get it. My idea of a party doesn't involve mediocre women half-dressed, possibly attempting some type of "theme," with logos sharpied on them.
Lemme cop dat beauty dish though. Also, I've got to show you my new lens. Rob and I went out and shot last night, it was my first time playing with it. I'm diggin' it so far. 12/6/2008 5:42:57 PM |

It's essentially a big circular bounce card. It creates a nice soft, bounce light that has a unique light fall off quality. Great for portraits. It's a big bulky to carry it around compared to softboxes, but you can create some cool effect pictures with just one main light. 12/6/2008 8:58:17 PM |

I'm excited - I just put in my order for the D40 on sale that was on the previous page - wish I would have just bought a SLR earlier in the year instead of getting the Nikon P80, that was $400 down the drain, now if only I could sneak the D40 into concerts pfff
