it seems odd that your best defender is guarding the other team's best player?

he used to be a guard himself, this isn't that odd

No, I'll fully admit that I'm just trolling at this point. But that doesn't mean that there is no truth to what I'm saying (or you wouldn't even bother responding). At the end of the day, do you really think the odds are in favor of this kid ever becoming a "scholarship" worthy player for us? I would absolutely love to have your optimism, but being an NC State fan has all but obliterated all of mine.

While I'd of rather gotten Favors or Cousins (just so we're clear), Davis sound promising. No, he probably won't be another Jack McClinton, but it seems that he has a lot of positives. And we still have two scholarships available next year.

I honestly don't really care at this point. If that was our last scholarship I'd have been mad but it wasn't. At the same time I don't want us just using our scholarships because we have them. There isn't anyone else out there that we can sign that people are going to be happy about. All the talent is gone except for John Wall. Other than him there is no one we can sign for this class that is going to make an instant impact on our team or be a sure bet to make an impact for us in the future.

We stopped at BoJangles on Jones Sausage Road today and who should walk in but future Memphis players ( ) John Wall and CJ Leslie.

A friend of mine said that I should have gone, "You know, John, they don't have BoJangles in Memphis."

not to shit on former players, but I think Davis will contribue more over his tenure than ferguson.

Yeah, I have no idea about Spurlock, but I'd see no reason not to take him, despite picking up Davis. We could use as much incoming talent as we can get, at every position.

solid built kid

someone who can hold his own down on the block and get some rebounds

thats what we need, someone who is willing to do the dirty work and get nasty down there, someone strong

Smith is under sized but dang if he didnt make some ACC boys look like chumps this year.

if this guy comes anywhere close to developing like Smith, we should be ok although Id still like a legit big man, maybe howell can become that guy

Imagine a Howell, Davis and Smith lineup with CJ and LoBrown, thats not bad for an undersized squad.

it aint all about height its about heart when it comes to rebounding.

Sigh. Here we go again. Keep your expectations in check. Davis is a good, coachable kid who you take a flyer on when you have a scholly open in hopes that in year 3 and 4 he can develop in to a contributor at this level.

Lets not pencil him in as part of our rotation next year and expect him to contribute on the ACC level... Good God people.

I haven't seen anything to that effect. I have seen his offer list and it's underwhelming... That doesn't mean he can't eventually contribute for us though.

^ Tracy was a consensus Top 75 recruit...

I actually think Tracy was top 50 unless he slipped late. At one point he was 45.

I am kind of excited about this kid based on what I've read, but seriously, its like nobody on these fucking boards (with some exception) can just enjoy this stuff for what its worth. The recruit either sucks or he's the next steph curry. Lowe either sucks or he's the next Coach K. Get some perspective people. Its never as bad or good as it may seem.

Towe also pulled Javi out when our other plans fell through. If Davis stands a chance at developing as much as Javi did, he's worth a shot. It's not like we have a bunch of blue-chip recruits beating down our door.

NyM410, where have you seen his offer list and who is on it?

V Not there. Already looked. It's not on his player profile at least. Somebody in one of the threads over there said UNC-W and Seton Hall had offered, but I take that for what it is.

Tracy Smith was #47 overall on Rivals and the #10 PF. Scout had him at #70 overall and the #18 PF. Solid player anyway you put it though. I mean hell Taylor King was rated above him and he sucks.

While true (at least so far, but he's got a couple more years of eligibility at 'Nova iirc), it seems like alot of people will point out a highly rated bust here or an unheralded guy becoming a star there as proof that recruiting rankings mean nothing. That is pretty myopic in my opinion. Recruiting is a crapshoot, but pulling in highly touted players gives you the best chance to have a good team. Plus I think recruiting rankings for basketball tend to be more accurate than for football since they are based on years and years of kids playing both in high school and on the AAU circuit where the level of talent is higher.

For a long time Pack fan, it’s a special day. “They called me and asked me to come talk to Coach Lowe and they asked me if I was interested. I told them I’m committed and I wanted to join. It’s always been my dream. I’ve been a Pack fan since the first time I went to a game in 9th grade and I fell in love with it.”"

^x4 Actually I was just trying to point out what a pleasant surprise Tracy has been this early on in his career at State and that he has really developed into a reliable player for us. He may have actually been underrated coming out of HS b/c he lost all that weight during his senior season. I expect him to be one of the stars next year and probably make All-ACC.

I think most people that have seen Wood play know how good he can become once he gets into a college weight program. That has been the only knock I've seen on him still. This year he has become more than just a pure shooter, and has improved his passing, dribbling, and driving skills since he was forced into playing point guard this year.

^^^^obviously we don't know how well kids will do until they get here, but we had been recruiting wood before anybody else was really giving him any looks and now he's in a tight race for mr. basketball honors.

monte towe was also on staff with norm sloan and played a big role in recruiting lowe, whittenberg and bailey.

It's possible Davis fell through the cracks because he played for a low-hype AAU team (rather than say D-One), grew a lot late in HS and wasn't even at the Carolina Challenge that Telep/Scout put a ton of time into with regards to NC/SC recruits most of the time. It's also possible he's a scrub. Whatever. I'll wait until he gets in school to judge. I like that he actually wants to come in and work on his game, unlike some players we've had

btw I really doubt Scott Wood is going to win mr. basketball in indiana. We had people saying Mays was in the running for that last year too when he really wasn't. While I think Scott has a better chance than Julius, that has more to do with the fact that there isn't a Tyler Zeller running around in Indiana this year than anything else

I realize its too early too know, and it sounds like Davis is a project-in-the-making, but 3rd highest scorer in NC (didn't I read that?) and NC-SC all-star MVP ain't too shabby.
