Has anyone had an issue with their Fascinate acting as if it's receiving touches even though you're not touching the screen?
If it's in my pocket, it does this. If I'm playing a game (like Angry Birds), it reacts like I touched the menu button A LOT.
Can't really duplicate it, either. 11/4/2010 10:50:54 PM |

So I have a number of albums (mostly rap) which are cluttering up my 'Artists' list in my music programs (I've been using MixZing, Meridian, and TuneWiki).
Dr. Dre's 'The Chronic' for example has 10 songs with different collaborators...so where there should be 1 list item for Dr. Dre there are 10+.
Is there any way to group the songs/albums by 'Album Artist' instead of the Artist listed for each song? I've dug through the settings for all 3 programs and didn't see it. 11/8/2010 11:31:56 AM |

Only way I know is to edit the ID3 tag in Media Monkey or something to just the artist for all of your albums. This is a huge problem with my music library as well. 11/8/2010 12:08:31 PM |

The reason I suggest media monkey is you can edit a whole folder ID3 tag at once vs. one track at a time. 11/8/2010 12:28:20 PM |

Hopefully most of you can get upgraded to 2.2+ soon ...
http://www.infoworld.com/d/security-central/security-researcher-releases-web-based-android-attack-317
Quote : | "Security researcher releases Web-based Android attack Devices running Android 2.1 and earlier are vulnerable to the browser bug
Version 2.2 runs on 36.2 percent of Android phones, Google says. Older phones such as the G1 and HTC Droid Eris, which may not get the updated software, could be at risk from this attack. Android 2.2 is found on phones such as the Droid and the HTC EVO 4.
Because Android walls off different components of the operating system from each other, Keith's browser exploit does not give him full, root access to a hacked phone. But he can access anything that the browser can read.
That means that Keith's attack probably couldn't be used to read or send SMS messages or make calls, but it could snatch photographs from the phone or snoop on someone's browsing history. "You have full control of the SD [Secure Digital memory] card, so anything on the SD card is fair game," he said in an interview. "If they use their browser to access anything, you'd be able to get ahold of that stuff."" |

people can have my pictures and browsing history, not important. i don't do anything on my phone that's significant to any hacker as phones are so easily lost/stolen
i think the 88 security flaws in 2.2 are more significant: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2010/11/04/firm_finds_88_serious_security_flaws_in_android_2_2

The video below uses Galaxy S hardware to demonstrate the browser. It reminds me of an Apple commercial (piano music, but no voiceover).

Looks like Samsung and Verizon announced the continuum. Pretty nifty how the secondary display will turn on just by holding it.
http://www.bgr.com/2010/11/08/samsung-continuum-hands-on/
Quote : | "We just grabbed some hands on time with Samsung’s latest device to debut on Verizon Wireless, and here are some of our initial thoughts. First off, the build quality on the Continuum seems solid — definitely a notch better than the Samsung Captivate and Samsung Vibrant. The device still feels a bit plasticky and a tad light, but again, it’s better than what Samsung has put out in the recent past. The screen is fantastic. It’s a Super AMOLED display with separate “ticker” display below, though there aren’t actually two displays on there. The four menu buttons are basically silkscreened over the display, which breaks it up into two separate sections. Software then controls the main section and the ticker section, and they can work independently of each other. Pretty cool, huh? Lastly, the grip sensor. There’s a capacitive layer on the edge of the handset and as soon as you pick it up (or even just touch it), the ticker display lights up and is fully functional while the main display stays dormant." |

opera is meh. hardware acceleration and flash need to be implemented for me to wants it. after that, I'm sold. I've loved the opera 10 interface since WinMo with my TP2.
as far as the continuum, looks pretty snazzy, but I personally have gotten used to the 4.3" screen of my Droid X and find it hard to go back to anything smaller. Wish the weather would show numerically, didn't seem to have settings to show the temp, just the condition in the ticker. i'd like a phone that would use a ticker rather than the 4 buttons and a toggle button on the side (or a sensor...whatev) that would switch between "button mode", "ticker mode", or "both". 11/9/2010 1:45:34 PM |

Has anyone lost their entire SMS history yet without warning? A couple weeks ago I lost about 2-3k texts and figured it was a bug in Fresh Evo. My buddy just told me tonight he lost about 10k on his stock 2.2 Incredible.
nandroid backup was way too old to be useful. Titanium Backup doesn't run nearly enough for it to be effective with SMS.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-backup/android May schedule this to backup to my dropbox nightly now (Unless I poke around and find Titanium easily does this). 11/12/2010 1:51:28 AM |

Android has a habit of dumping texts if you have a large number of them. There's an app in the market called SMS Backup & Restore that is free and you can use it to schedule backups but it doesn't do MMS. MyBackup Pro is $4-5 bucks but can back up pretty much everything. 11/12/2010 8:38:27 AM |

^^ I was about to suggest SMS Backup+ as well. You really should have this installed, works in the background flawlessly and creates a SMS folder in your gmail that you can easily search.

Seeing as how limited their initial LTE rollout would be, I don't really see why they would want to launch one. They'd have so many people pissed off that they can't use LTE. Plus that article says something about seeing that phone at CES. Isn't that in the spring sometime? 11/12/2010 3:26:59 PM |

Quote : | "We received semi-sad word this morning from one of our peeps on this whole Verizon 4G LTE Android handset situation. While there have been a number of rumors about the Incredible HD, a device from LG, the Olympus from Motorola and now the Elite from Samsung, none of us have had a clue as to when we might see them. Until now anyway.
Most of us had been hearing that the Incredible HD (Mecha?) would see a November or December release at the latest, but our sources have informed us that there are currently no plans to release any major LTE devices this year. They did confirm that HTC, LG and Samsung all have devices ready to rock, but not just yet. Motorola is also rumored to have a device, but our guy can’t confirm as he has not actually seen it yet.
Now remember, release dates, planned devices and anything else that comes along with a wireless carrier are subject to change on a dime, so take this as rumor for now. As we have more, we’ll be sure to fill you in." |

The Fascinate's screen isn't much smaller than the Droid X's.
No one knows about battery life with Froyo on the Fascinate because no one with a Fascinate has Froyo. I can't comment on other galaxy phones. That said, I haven't had any battery life issues. I get a solid 36+ hours between charges for my level of use.
