So I got DMC4 last night, it's great. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay and control is really fun. As you would expect from any DMC game, the combo system is insane and over the top but it works. It is easier than the previous DMC games (notably DMC3). This is a good thing though since it makes it a lot more laid back and there is a lot less spending 20 minutes to get to the boss then getting killed in the first minute and having to do the entire level over again. They tweaked a lot of smaller issues too like having to wait for an entire menu to load before going to a different menu, and you are able to slightly control the camera during cutscenes.

Two complaints though... if you are going to make it so that Dante isn't the main character, don't make the new main character look EXACTLY LIKE DANTE. Also, the cutscenes... although I love cutscenes, sometimes I would like to kill the demons myself then have Nero do it in the cutscene. It got a little ridiculous at the beginning of the game with cutscenes but after the first few missions it calmed down a bit.


V oh yeah the camera work is another thing that bothers me. It seems that it always moves opposite the direction that you intuitively push the right analog stick.

i was enjoying it until i got to the part where you can slow down time and you have to climb up that big ass spiraling blade thing and jump to the platform. i hate the jumping in this game so much. i can't make the jump. i fell like 8 times. i turned the game off after that and haven't played in two days. i need to hurry up and beat it before i return it to blockbuster though.

the camera angles bother me sometimes to

get a weapons outfit choice and a class choice so it isnt as customizable but you can mix and match heavily (5 weapon outfit choices, 5 classes).

you level up during the missions but dont keep the status so you have to do it each time. i think that rewards casual players a little better, but doesnt give it as much pull for replay. we'll see.

get the double jump skill. it's really hard to nail it otherwise.

and other than what's listed there, is there any real value in getting elite over premium? i haven't researched in depth, but can't you use a regular HDMI cable (save some money there) and buy a bigger harddrive somewhere else (also save money)?

So I played about 4-5 rounds and here are my general impressions.
1) The demo is a bit laggy, but so long as you aren't above 24 or so ppl it isnt too bad.
2) The weapons just don't feel different enough plus they arent that interesting. The guns don't feel solid as if they are actually hitting anyone, particularly at range. I tried sniping instead but even 2 shots to the chest didn't kill someone. Overall meh.
3) The maps are pretty well done.
4) The classes are fun, but I didn't get to play a map with vehicles which made some of them kinda worthless. The most fun I had while playing the demo was finding a hiding spot and then flying explosive drone helicopters around and annoying ppl who were camping.

you know, im rather fond of lost odessey. i hadnt played too many jrpg's lately, but here are my impressions for those looking:

1. Simplicity. One thing that turns me off of some rpgs is the sheer complexity of all the stats, items, classes, or similar. This isn't true of all, but I don't want to have to read a book to figure out what items do or how to configure my characters to not be gimped. This game really does go back to its roots like a lot of the reviews say. You have a weapon, an enhancement, and an accessory equipment wise. You have skills that you equip in order to be able to cast spells or use skills. Very easy to manage and focus on the gameplay itself instead of micromanaging stats and inventory. Good for me, maybe not for you.

2. Challenge. I think they got this just about right (though im only 5-6 hours in) and the reviewers got it wrong. Sure you don't have super complex options and combos while fighting, but the enemies do a good bit of damage and can easily kill you in a few turns. I've died once on most boss fights, but get the idea quickly.

3. Story. Story seems interesting and the voice acting isn't really bad at all. Supposedly rehashes a lot of FF cliches, but I have only played 1, fake 2, and 7 (AND mystic quest) so it wasn't an issue for me.

4. Doesn't really required grinding. Thank god, that's the only thing I REALLY hate about some rpgs.

1. I agree with the reviews in that it gets choppy for seemingly no reason. It doesn't really bother me, but it is kinda odd.

2. Lotta load screens. They aren't that long, but there sure are a lot of them.

1. One thing I noticed is that "levels" seem rather short. There are some really minor puzzles that don't strike me as super well done, but beyond that it is walk point A to point B like an old rpg. I guess in that case it is good they are short, but I dunno something just feels off. I like boss fights though so I guess it works.
