I take back what I said. I forgot we're still in good with Durham's Vad Lee. Though it is unknown whether he projects as a QB in college.

Hopefully we can land Lee and Rivers. Lee may not project to be a QB, but at least he's athletic. UNC winning and going to a bowl the last 2 years is why they're out-recruiting us right now. Hopefully they'll fall on their faces this year and Butch's regime can follow the similar path that Amato's staff took here, a lot of early hype and then a quick decline into nothing. I know its early, but TOB really needs a big season to get any kind of momentum if we're not going to do much recruiting for anything other than for depth this year.

I knew this year would suck due to the ebb & flow of recruiting (we usually alternate with UNC with having the top in-state class), but we are sucking it up right now.

damn, we're really shitting the bed...if we have a bad season and recruiting doesn't pick up in a major way it's going to be hard to justify keeping O'Brien.

People always say that early recruiting doesn't matter, but its the name of the game these days. This kid would have felt much more comfortable as an NCSU recruit if we had 9 or 10 solid guys also on the commit list. People need shit to talk about, and want to make new friends, and tell all of their high school possee about the other recruits they are coming in with. TOB needs to get on the stick early and often if he wants to be a player next year, we need a good group early, good middle guys, and good late sleepers too.

I've missed 4 or 5 games home games max since birth, and this is the least I've ever looked forward to a football season. The only sliver of light is I'll get to watch one of the best players in the history of the program play his probable final season.

At least there is still a lot of talent out there up for grabs. I think I remeber the staff was looking to only bring in about 15 guys this year. There are still 20-25 recruits out there in the 4-5* range that are under our radar. But maybe we only get 1-2 of those if we're lucky.

I expect us to land Jared Barber and Vad Lee. They should be solid pick-ups. It would be huge if we got Stephone Anthony, although I can see him going to Clemson, USC, or some other SEC school. So many of these damn SEC are coming after our recruits, it makes it hard to compete.

It's a sad state of affairs for the program when we get excited about a punter committing, because at least it's not a de-commitment.

how many games do you think we've punted ourselves out of in the past few seasons? I can't think of any off hand (probably drank those turrible memories away) but I feel certain that if we had a punter worthy of a D1 scholarship the past few season we would have at least been in a handful of games that we lost

Unless we see some serious improvement from some of these freshman and sophomores, I think we are going to suck next year and TOB will probably need to go ahead and retire/be fired because if the recruiting isn't there and the player development isn't there, then there is no reason to think we'll ever get better than 5-7.

If you mean punt the ball straight into a rusher's hands for a runback, none. On the other hand, spotting the other team 100+ yards per game in field position and setting up long returns with poor kicks is a poor way to start any game, especially when you don't have a stout defense. We've given up more than our fair share of poor field position from bad punts and kickoffs shanked out of bounds the last year or two.

So we've got the #2 punter, #3 long snapper, and a walk-on kicker who reneged on a app state scholarship coming in in '11. not a bad (special teams) class. we just need a top5 holder, and we're golden! kidding, this is good news. wasn't ward rated pretty high?

If TOB was fired, who do you honestly think we could hire? I don't foresee that many good options.

I really wanted Paul Johnson when he was available. Winning 8+ games every year would have been fine with me.

state is fucking cursed, it doesn't matter how good of a coach you are. sure he's winning 8-9 games and beating UGA, but if he came here we would rule the shitter. I used to think this line of reasoning was a joke, but now i'm convinced its true.

If TOB keeps beating UNC, he can keep his job forever.

Delusional state fans think we are going to be a top contender every year (ask Clemson how that's working out for them).

Let's be happy that we beat those fags for three years. There is something special about sucking dick and still beating those fuckers.

and ncstate hasn't beaten clemson since 2003. its getting quite ridiculous.

^ I think beergolftile was focusing moreso on Clemson's delusional fans rather than the comparison between the two programs. Sure they may be ahead of us, but they haven't fallen short of badly disappointing their fans the past several years, hence the firing of Tommy.

Anyways, bttt, things are looking good for us with another recruit; I hope we can land him.

Quote :
"Tech target Vad Lee plans to ‘name a leader’ Christian LeMay style

Vad Lee, Georgia Tech’s top quarterback target, plans to “name a leader” a la Christian LeMay within the next three weeks.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound athlete from Durham, N.C., is good friends with LeMay, a University of Georgia pledge, and is strongly considering handling his recruitment the same way as that five-star prospect. That is, to name a leader rather than to full-out commit.

“I think I’m going to do the Christian LeMay thing,” Lee said in a telephone interview on Wednesday. “Me and Christian have been talking a little bit and I really like what he did when he named a leader and all that. So I may take that approach and name a leader. That way there won’t be too much pressure on me but I can still take my five visits. I want to do that.”

LeMay, who had upward of 30 scholarship offers, named a final five at a press conference in late April and tabbed the Bulldogs as the school at which he “intends to enroll.” But LeMay reserves the right to look harder at his other finalists, including Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

Lee doesn’t have quite as many overall offers as LeMay (about a dozen or so). But Lee is set on taking his maximum of five official visits this fall and wants to do so with a clean conscience.

“I can say my list is N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Wake Forest and Maryland, probably in that order,” Lee said. “Those are my plans for official visits.”

In the meantime, Lee has stayed busy getting to know each one better. He was at N.C. State last weekend. He’s going to Wake Forest this weekend. He plans to return to Georgia Tech on July 20th and will try to get to Maryland sometime after that.

After all that Lee thinks he’ll have enough information to name a leader.

“Before the season definitely; sometime in August, maybe even the end of this month,” he said of a possible decision date. “But it wont go past August 7th. It won’t go past that.”

That’s when Hillside High’s preseason practices begin in earnest.

“I want to have an idea where I’m going and where I feel most comfortable at by then,” Lee said. “But I’m still gonna take my five official visits, probably.”

According to Lee, Georgia Tech will be willing to wait. He said he is being recruited purely as a quarterback and is being told he is the Jackets’ No. 1 target at the position.

“They’re set on me as their quarterback; they remind me of that every day,” Lee said. “They want me as their quarterback running their offense. They feel like I can bring so much more to their offense since I can throw the ball and I’m able to run. They say they’re going to open it up a little more with me.”

Lee shared his thoughts on N.C. State and Wake Forest as well.

Wake Forest: “I’m actually going to Wake Forest Saturday. They’ve definitely been impressing me with the recruiting thing and keeping in contact with me. They’ve been wanting me to get up there for the longest and I actually have an opportunity this weekend, so I’m really looking forward to that. They’re going to a shotgun/option kind of thing [on offense]. They’re going to stay pretty much balanced, not run-oriented like Georgia Tech, but there will be a lot of running of the quarterback and run-throw option for the quarterback. I really don’t have a good feel for it right now but I’ll know a lot more about it after I visit.”

N.C. State: “They’re a pro-style offense and that’s why I like them. It’s not the only reason but I have plans to go to the NFL. They’re more of a pro-style offense. They throw the ball a lot. Coach [Tom] O’Brien’s staff at Boston College they were top three in passing in the ACC and they’re doing the same thing at N.C. State. I like to throw the ball around and that’s why I like them. And they’ve probably as consistent with me as anybody.”

As for the Jackets, Lee said he hadn’t really seriously considered them until making an unofficial visit earlier this summer.

“I went to Atlanta and, to be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much,” he said. “But they really impressed me and that’s why I want to go back. I want to learn more.”"

If I was a nationally ranked punter, I would definitely want to come here. Although you would have gotten more exposure during the Stone/Davis/Evans year, you'll still get plenty of punts in with our offensive line and whatever ineptitude we have at QB after Wilson and Glennon are gone.
