Absolute compliment - I thought the following sentence would clarify that. He was a rock. He forced Panama's mid fielders into so many bad passes. He tracked back. He was composed on the ball and distributed in every direction. And he almost had a left footed screamer on target from the top of the box.

Michael Bradley nickname update:

Google tells me he got that nickname while at Chievo Verona. Carry on.

I'm so glad we don't have to play in the goddamn Confederations Cup this year. I'm sure B4C is heartbroken.

the Mariners made them put a cap on how many tickets could be sold for the game. probably would have been a full sellout if they hadn't

That's a pretty butthurt move. Sounds like something Jim Rutherford would pull off.

^^ Ian Darke said it was 2,000 short of the capped capacity even.

I'm sure if it was Costa Rica or Honduras, with more ex-pats, it would sell out there. Portland needs to get a WCQ as well..

Bump. Honduras game tonight at 9 on ESPN. A win will put us in a very comfortable spot to qualify.

Zusi/Jones are back, Beasley out on yellow cards. Beckerman added to the roster.

Other players on yellows (and would miss our next game at Costa Rica) - Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron, Brad Davis, Clint Dempsey, Brad Evans, Tim Howard and Fabian Johnson.

I won't be too terribly upset if some of those players get yellows tonight and miss CR. I'd rather them miss an away game we aren't likely to win than the next game against Mexico.

Hopefully Cameron will play again even if Jones back.

Does anyone know if the kickoff is actually at 9:00 or if it's really 9:30? Thinking about going to Nevada Smith's in NYC for this one.

If he's healthy enough to play, I'd bet my life that Jones is back in the starting lineup.

Kickoff is 9:06 ET

guess not many were watching this over NBA Finals and/or NC State baseball

Didn't miss much. Honduras had a very good game plan and I agree with Twellman that it had a similar feeling to US/Mexico in Azteca with us in the Mexico role.

Lucky for us, Jozy is in the form of his life and finishes the few chances he gets now. And even luckier, we're not Mexico and know how to score goals at home.

^^I was flipping back and forth between all three. Popped back just in time to Jozy's goal. Love that we have a legit competent striker now it seems.

I just wish we had a tandem up front of capable forwards, even if they wouldn't necessarily play together. It would be nice to have Charlie Davies, pre-wreck, on the bench/paired with Jozy. Jozy's going to need broad/uninjured shoulders to carry this team in Brazil. I guess an inform Eddie Johnson is the most we can hope for.

^ True that. Landon Donovan would be perfect for that role, to be honest. Maybe he'll stop being a bitch.

Davies didn't really emerge as a legit option until Confederations Cup so it's possible somebody off the radar ends up being that guy in this cycle like maybe Bobby Wood or Jack Mcinerney. Both are on the Gold Cup roster.

^Well they really only have one chance left this cycle since we have been a fail at every level. I really think it helped last time when our players got to play in so many tournaments together.

Dempsey is not a pure striker, and it would be a waste of his talents to use him that way.

I'll be in Brazil for group play as well.

Ticket applications go out after the confederation's cup from the US Soccer supporter's club so I will know more about where I'll be after tickets are drawn.

FYI hostels in Rio are over $100 a night during Carnival (with a multiple night minimum), and I would expect them to cost more for the World Cup. I can't begin to imagine what a night at an even halfway decent hotel will cost, but I'm guessing it will be out of your price range unless you're rich. I would try and couch surf honestly and save yourself the cost of your plane ticket.

I'm prepared to pay the premium on hotels and such, but I will also be down with three other guys so it shouldnt be breaking the bank to get a decent room.

The US might not be in Rio as well. It all depends on the draw in Jan.

They are protesting price gouging for confederations cup. The people are going to push trhough legislation that will likely include accomodations and not just public transportation. Brazil is a large country and their people want to go see the games as well.

Landon Donavan's return to form would make us top 15 for sure but maybe even top 10. We are GOOOOOD right now.

What an awesome international display!

I know that the Confederations Cup exists more as a test of logistics and infrastructure than anything else, but can we finally kill this stupid fucking thing?

Huh? They are protesting $15 billion in public money being spent to build stadiums and host the event when other infrastructure is crumbling and millions of people are living in poverty. The transit fare hike is what pushed a lot of people over the edge. I don't think most of the people protesting give a fuck about the World Cup or whether they can afford to attend.

the most you could do now is get your visa. You don't know where you will be playing and Brazil is a big ass country and spur of the moment transportation will likely be sold out everywhere.

Gold Cup roster. Not much to see here. Hopefully Holden gets some minutes, Donovan proves himself to Klinsmann, and McInerney plays well. Also, goodbye Bocanegra. If you can't make this roster then you won't make a WCQ roster.

Quote :
"GOALKEEPERS (3) : Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS (8) : Corey Ashe (Houston Dynamo), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Oguchi Onyewu (Malaga), Michael Orozco Fiscal (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (FC Augsburg)

MIDFIELDERS (7) : Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Helsinborg), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Joshua Gatt (Molde FK), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Jose Torres (Tigres)

FORWARDS (5) : Will Bruin (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Club Tijuana), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)"

Does onyewu actually play for Malaga? That'd be pretty impressive. I thought klesjian was the only American playing champions league. Also, what happened to Jonathan Spector? Dude just fell off the face of the earth it seems like.

I guess the ones who played in the WCQs on that roster are still considered fringe players, otherwise I see no reason for their inclusion in the Gold Cup.
