^^^ i am rocking froyo on my Vibrant, battery life seems really good. I get a full day of decent usage... never feel the need to rush to my charger. I have played with the Droid X and would lean towards the Vibrant, but I am partial. 11/12/2010 8:47:07 PM |

thx! ya as nitpicky as it sounds, i dont like having physical buttons with a touchscreen device, i find it pretty annoying. and the droid-x is just barely too big to comfortably fit in one hand and swype around on with my thumb. i think the galaxy will be a better fit.
swype is for the f'ing win, btw. fantastic once you get used to it. 11/13/2010 8:39:03 PM |

I saw this cheesy advert for 'lookout' a security/backup/tracking app and I was wondering if anyone actually used it? I've had trouble with Prey the last couple of times it's been installed so I figured I'd install this one and test it out. It's bothering me though I've not heard anything about it on the forums or before now. 11/15/2010 9:55:41 AM |

yea, i tried lookout, lasted about 10 min. on my phone because of how it seemed to bog down everything, installing apps took about twice as long, opening apps took twice as long, just didn't seem worth it.
but i don't know if that's normal.

^ this is a post I made for the Vibrant.
A lot of it will apply to your phone (Post 1 is mostly regarding root, so this would not apply directly but the process would be nearly identical). Be sure and check out the XDA section for the Captivate, it will be your best friend.

I've just downloaded LCD Density (root required). It basically changes the DPI of the LCD output. Not exactly sure how I feel about it. Some apps fit more on the screen, while some just take up a smaller part of the screen.

Quote : | "We posted this up immediately over at Android Life as it falls under the “general Android news” category, but wanted to make sure all of you saw it. Google CEO Eric Schmidt was on stage at the Web 2.0 Summit and pulled out a Nexus S running Gingerbread. He didn’t actually mention who the manufacturer was, but from the shot we grabbed above, it’s pretty obvious.
He also mentioned that Android 2.3 should be out in the “next few weeks” and that Google TV talks with the major networks are going well." |
on a side note, leave the fucking button order alone.
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/11/15/htc-merge-to-be-unveiled-november-18th-will-be-droid-branded/
Quote : | "A club in Seattle called Republiq is hosting a Patron Social Club event this Thursday, November 18th, that was originally supposed to be the unveiling of the HTC Merge and would also include a re-launch of the Droid Incredible. (So much for the delay?) And also,as you can see from the shot below, the Patron Social Club called it the “HTC Droid Merge World-Phone” which is what really grabbed our interest. Remember, the Merge/Lexikon is a “Bing” device and we have all been under the impression that “DROID” branded phones would never see an ounce of Bing. Has Verizon changed their thoughts on the Merge and turned it into a Droid?
The second big thing is the mention of this party celebrating the “launching” of the device. With it being on the 18th and previous rumors of the device landing on November 11th, maybe they just didn’t get the memo? Or maybe Verizon still plans on announcing it?
We sort of think the PSC didn’t get the memo. Check out the flyer for the event below which now only mentions the Droid Incredible…" |

^unless google releases the nexus s (or whatever it's called) on a network worth a damn, it'll fail just like the n1 did. 11/15/2010 8:47:45 PM |
BigEgo Not suspended 24374 Posts user info edit post |
Claiming the N1 failed is ridiculous. It accomplished a lot. The only thing that Google wanted to have happen from it that didn't was move phone purchases away from the carriers and instead have it trend to buying them online. The Google Phone store was a failure, but the N1 was a big success.
It's a big reason why you see phones like the Droid X, the HTC Evo, and Samsung Captivate on the market right now. Before the Nexus One no one was really putting that impressive of hardware into their phones despite the technology being available.
Sure it never sold like the iPhone4 did, but that wasn't ever the point of the N1.
As for the N2? It'll likely end up mostly a developer phone, and probably have multi-carrier support (if it isn't LTE, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just T-Mobile and ATT) like the Nexus One did. It's biggest point is that the Nexus One is getting out dated and they need a phone that can do all the things that Android will be able to do in the next year (1080p recording comes to mind, even though cell phone cameras are typically so crappy that it really isn't worth having over a 720p recording cell phone). 11/16/2010 11:04:34 AM |

Quote : | "Wow. LG did say it'd bring some heat to its Android Optimus line and here's our first look at it, folks! An 8 megapixel camera-wearing, 1080p video-recording, dual-core superphone to appease all the spec fanatics out there. Aimed for release early next year, as the very first dual-core Android handset, this device will finally bring NVIDIA's Tegra 2 into the smartphone realm. Our tipster tells us it's codenamed Star internally, though that's certain to change in the final product nomenclature. You might think that massive Google logo on the back would imply stock Android and you'd be right -- we're told it'll be a nearly untouched representation of the Google OS, though it's still not clear which version it'll be. We've also spotted a front-facing camera on the front, while the innards include microSD memory expandability, microUSB connectivity, and a 1500mAh battery. Nexus who?" |

Basically can I tether my wifi connection, i guess?

anything thinking of trying the SD Split widget for root users, I don't recommend it. I'm having to format my SD card and restore it after using this. Even though it's a hassle switching back and forth between mounted and unmounted, I'd rather do that than fuck something up like I did by using it at the same time on both devices or not ejecting properly and shit. 11/18/2010 6:42:33 AM |

I too am wondering this.
I remember hearing something about being able to stream video to your phone via the app, but that currently only AT&T wireless customers could do this. Does anyone have any more info on these issues?11/18/2010 2:30:55 PM |

^^ Verizon isn't going to budge any on the phone prices. You may get them to give you some accessories for free or at a discounted price. You should still be able to call into verizon for assistance and get a replacement if it's related to a manufacturer's defect but I doubt they'd replace anything in a verizon store. The one good thing about the black tie protection is that I believe you get a new phone instead of a refurbished one on warranty replacements. 11/18/2010 6:00:34 PM |

Most likely an OS bug; I get a similar bug when charging in my truck via a non-standard power converter and cord.
Take out the battery, plug a standard charging cord/power adapter into the device, hit the power button, wait for the battery and ? signs to appear. Unplug the device, insert battery, turn device on, should be good to go.]11/19/2010 8:46:54 AM |

I'm having an issue on my Evo 4G where I'll tap the Home button and it flashes a green HTC on a white screen, and takes about 10+ seconds to get me back to my home screen.
I'm thinking it's reloading HTC Sense or something like that, because after it flashes HTC it shows a grayed out background with a "Please Wait" message in the foreground, until it finally the home screen as it should. I'm normally in some other application, and am tapping home to get to my home screen (dur).
