I got stuck running errands this afternoon and wasn't able to make it into the gym until almost 9PM. I stopped at a gas station and got a snack bar and a sugar free rockstar before going to the gym. I felt so much stronger tonight doing pullups than usual; it literally felt like I was launching myself into the bar instead of just pulling myself up. I usually only have a protein snack consisting of either a can of tuna, beef jerky, or microwaveable pork rinds before my workout, but maybe I need to start adding some carbs in right before the workout too. I usually take a preworkout booster like Jacked or NO-Xplode before my workouts, so I doubt it was the caffeine from the energy drink that did it.
what does everyone else do in here before their workouts? empty stomach for cardio, and eat a little something for lifting? other? 9/14/2011 10:27:04 PM |

I eat more than what normal people would before I work out I think.. but I also don't puke, so having a meal within 30 minutes of working out doesn't phase me. Although, it is harder to make myself eat after a workout. I'm not sure why

I usually have some beef jerky or half a powerbar before lifting. Can't really tell any difference between the two. 9/14/2011 10:33:36 PM |

Run on a low-to-empty stomach. But I can't do that for lifting or I'll get an upset stomach and/or throw-up. I usually just try to get a decent snack in like a balance/cliff/kashi bar or some bread and peanut butter. I use to try and do fruit, but that really didn't do anything for my appetite and my stomach would still get upset. 9/14/2011 10:46:49 PM |

I'm like Sam. Food or no food, doesn't matter. I can eat something and then go run and be okay or go run on an empty stomach. 9/14/2011 10:59:16 PM |

Yeah, sometimes I'm ok with no food before hand but I usually eat just to be safe... makes passing out less likely 9/15/2011 12:10:30 AM |

I generally don't eat before working out (by the time I hit the gym, it's been ~5 hours). When I did though, it was just a yogurt. 9/15/2011 12:21:52 AM |

I have to eat before a workout or I get dizzy and weak. Sucks.
Also, this is week 3 of being back on track and I've lost .4lb Not worried though, there's a definite difference in my appearance in the mirror. No complaints. And the muscle gain already, and balance! It's crazy how fast the body adapts. 9/15/2011 10:17:20 AM |

recently ive been going low carb all day, then pounding >60g carbs in liquid form pre workout, with a few more from some broccoli, and maybe some caffeine before lifting.

so question for those who enjoy bike riding - do you bike ride on the sidewalk or in the street? and if you bike on the side walk and are coming up to a running who's back is to you, do you go around them or do you ram your bike's handlebars into the runner and say, "sorry i needed to give you a 'gentle nudge' to let you know i was here"
MOTHER FUCKER ALMOST PUSHED ME INTO TRAFFIC ON TRYON ROAD THIS MORNING. i wasn't even taking up the whole sidewalk - i was on the right hand side so people can pass.
asshole.
ok i feel better now.

I do 95% of my bike riding on the street. I'll only jump onto the sidewalk for a few seconds to avoid some really heavy traffic or if its an actual side for biking and running. I yell at people who ride their bikes on sidewalks. 9/15/2011 11:10:37 AM |

personally i normally don't care. Tryon can be a bit crazy in the mornings. but i was on the right side of the sidewalk so there was PLENTY of room for him to go around me but he had to make a point that he was coming up behind me. what a jerkface. i know what neighborhood he lives in now. i might just go run out on tryon at the same time tomorrow morning so i can trying to run into him again. see how it feels if "gently nudge" his bike into the road. 9/15/2011 11:20:58 AM |

like i said, i dont care if you ride on the sidewalk - especially on a busy road like Tryon but motherfucker did not need to hit me with his bike to let me know he was coming up behind me. there was plenty of room for him to pass around me. he just wanted to be an asshole. and that shit hurt my back! 9/15/2011 11:31:55 AM |

Its less dangerous and more appropriate to ride on the street

I usually ride on the street, but if I were on the sidewalk, I'd try to get the runner's attention with a noise or something, like squealing my brakes. failing that, I'd just slow the fuck down and wait till I could pass. aint no need to hit somebody 9/15/2011 1:41:22 PM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
^ well that's why when i run, i stick to the right hand side so people can pass me on the left. there was grass to the left of the side walk so he could have gone on the grass. he just wanted to hit me.
^^ huh?
^^^ yes please.

I have noticed in the last month I've been on the verge of an asthma attack when I'm working out. Only when I do high intensity interval training. I'm fine when I run (which is weird because when I was younger I used to get these asthma-like breathing attacks when I ran). I have found myself stopping mid-workout gasping and wheezing. Usually throwing my head between my legs for a little bit helps and drinking water helps but it's starting to slow down my times when I'm timing my workouts.
Anyone else get this? I found it happens more in the morning (like if I work out as soon as I wake up) than in the afternoon. I had an inhaler for a while when I was about 14 but then I was okay for the longest time. 9/18/2011 11:37:47 AM |

Maybe it's because of my allergy but whenever I consume copious amounts of alcohol I have the opposite effect - I end up bloated and weighing more
That's awesome though Joie
I'm still hanging out at 137. The last 5 pounds are really giving me a hard time
But overall I am really happy with my results. A lot people keep saying how "skinny" I look and I'm wearing some of the smallest sizes in clothes since I had my appendix out 7 years ago 9/18/2011 1:22:26 PM |

I had a hard time last week.
I've never had asthma/allergy problems until this year. I've ascribed it to the unusually shitty air quality we've had this year (forest fires; hot, hot, hot, etc.).9/18/2011 7:04:29 PM |

okay so on my longer runs, i've been having major issues with reflux/indigestion/heart burn (whatever you'd call it) and it's fucking painful.
doesn't matter how long it's been since i've eaten or what i've eaten (so it seems) and i'm not sure how to fix it.
