Quote : | "Source: Iverson was not keen on playing for Charlotte
ESPN.com news services
A trade that would have sent disgruntled guard Allen Iverson to the Charlotte Bobcats died Monday when Iverson indicated his displeasure with the deal, a source told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday.
The Philadelphia 76ers guard has been inactive for the last three games after asking for a trade. The Sixers, on an eight-game losing streak, are reportedly looking to close a deal soon and have made the divorce all but final: they have cleaned out Iverson's locker and removed his highlights from the pre-game highlight reel shown at home games.
The Inquirer reported that a source indicated Iverson's trade demand did not include limitations on where he was sent. But that apparently did not include the Bobcats (5-15), who have struggled on the floor and at the box office since joining the NBA in 2004.
The Bobcats would make a logical trading partner, largely because they are an NBA-high $15 million under the salary cap. Outside of a core of young players the team wants to build around, including Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton and Adam Morrison, the Bobcats have players with contracts that expire in the next two years, including Brevin Knight, Melvin Ely, Othella Harrington and Primoz Brezec.
A source told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that the Sixers appear determined to avoid the spectacle of prolonged trade talks that dogged the Indiana Pacers when Ron Artest demanded to be dealt last season. That dragged on for seven weeks before Artest was was dealt to Sacramento for Peja Stojakovic." |

well i think it was a good move so far (even we're down) to start primoz and bring in morrison off the bench...primoz was draining some 15'-18' shots over Z earlier and morrison hit a few consecutive shots once he came in...he's probably already scored as many FGs tonight (morrison) than he did the last 4 games 12/13/2006 8:01:12 PM |

Quote : | "Iverson deals: The Bobcats factor
Nobody's writing or talking about it much, but there's one person out there -- and you've probably heard of him before -- who can be a huge, huge factor in determining Allen Iverson's future home.
He's none other than Charlotte Bobcats basketball operations chief Michael Jordan, and he could be a major power broker in the Iverson trade saga because he's the one guy in the entire NBA who can make just about any deal happen by brokering a three- or four-team trade.
Iverson wouldn't end up in Charlotte, mind you (and if you believe everything you read, he doesn't want to play there, either), but would be traded through the Bobcats to someone else.
Here's how: In most NBA trades, the salaries of the players being traded for one another must be within 125 percent of each other, plus $100,000. But if one of the teams in the deal is under the salary cap, that rule goes out the window, and the salaries no longer have to "match."
In this case, the Bobcats currently have a payroll of $37.77 million, leaving them about $14.4 million below the salary cap of $53.135 million. In other words, they have $14.4 million in cap space. So in order to take on Iverson's $17.2 million salary, they'd have to move $2.8 million worth of salary -- and Jordan could do that by including Brevin KnightMelvin Ely ($3.3 million, trade-eligible Jan. 2) in a three- or four-team deal (perhaps sending him to one of the two teams with newly acquired injury exceptions, the Lakers (Chris Mihm) or Trail Blazers (Darius Miles). That's why Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff was talking about being eager to be a trade facilitator for the 76ers, and why Jordan could still play a big part in getting Iverson routed to one of the marquee teams (Lakers? Heat?) trying to enter the mix.
"This is like an estate sale. You're crazy if you don't try to get in on it," one Western Conference executive told me this evening, saying the Bobcats are crazy if they're not heavily involved. "They (the 76ers) want three things -- a young player, a draft pick and an expiring contract, and nobody has all three. Except Chicago."
But the Bobcats, if they're creative enough, have the cap flexibility to get the Sixers those three commodities while picking something up for themselves along the way. Charlotte would assumedly want cash and a first-round draft pick, but there aren't many teams with enough extra No. 1s in 2007 (Phoenix has three -- its own, Atlanta's (protected top 3) and Cleveland's; while Denver, Detroit and the Clippers each have two) to toss one apiece to the Sixers and Bobcats to sweeten the pot in a three-team deal.
Moreover, the Bobcats already have an extra No. 1 pick (Toronto's, protected 1-15), and they're so cash-starved (they laid off 12 employees Tuesday after an earlier round of front office cuts last summer; and they still don't have a naming rights deal, although owner Bob Johnson jettisoned the money-losing WNBA Sting on Wednesday) they just might consider brokering a deal simply to get their hands on $3 million -- the most any team can receive in a trade, and the exact lump sum they'd demand as a broker's fee to route Iverson elsewhere." |

for an HONEST tenth of a second, the only way that shot can be made is if it is lobbed and a guy uses his fist to punch it in
the Knick guy received the pass and his hand moved slightly backward and then forward again to lay it in. thats gotta take more than a tenth of a second. 12/21/2006 2:21:47 AM |

what you're saying makes sense^ but is not one the rule states. any "tip in" will work. Which is any form of a tap where the player does not have control of the ball......he didn't have any control of that ball, he simply guided the direction of the orginial lob.
I only know the wordage used in the rule because of ESPN this morning.
and by the way, using your first to strike the ball has always been against the rules of basketbal. It was one of the game's original rules that has obviously faded away with time 12/21/2006 7:01:20 AM |
