please show me a single AD that bases his decision on what the typical fan has to say, or even gives fans a say in the matter. its not just a lee fowler thing.

i don't think its so much that his decision is influenced by the fans (or isnt)

i think it has to do with the impression he makes in seeing the fans as proletariats

^i can see that, but the again, what do you expect when you have thousands of people trying to tell you how to do you job.

its not his job to make friends, and he sure as hell can't please everyone.

that doesnt make a difference. if you please the complainers now, then a whole new set of people are going to complain. you simply can't get wrapped up in public opinion when you have a job like that.

maybe so, but that will be the chancellors decision, not the fans.

Don't act like the Chancellor doesn't give a shit what the fans think. They are the biggest source of revenue for the athletics department.

The fans have a pretty big say in the fate of the athletics director. To say otherwise would be naive.

theres a reason why this saying exists:

"when you start listening to the fans, you end up sitting with them"

think what you want.

so when people start booing him and telling him he needs to get out (while at games with important people around) you don't think that would matter?

anyways, back on topic

I think I'm beginning to like the prospect of Johnson as our next coach

I'm personally thinking we need an offensive mind this go around (but i guess thats the wholesale thought as well)

if fisher really does come with the auburn dc, whatever his name is, then that's got to be the best choice.

If it is true about Jimbo Fisher and the Aubrun DC then let's bypass a second humiliating coaching search and bring him in ASAP.

wendell murphy is in the wolfpack club and is a donor (albeit a large one)...he has decision making influence and power as well as the other top 10 wolfpack club members...even though they may have an ambitious mission, you can't honestly say money isn't an influencer in the decision making process.

actually they are. I know b/c i just went and bought mine two days ago. You can go purchase new ones anytime you want, and you're locked into the price of the seats at the time of original purchase. So lets say you bought spirit level seats for $2k a piece and you want to buy confidence level seats for $4k a piece. You pay the $4k per seat, minus whatever you've paid to that point on your previous tickets. Furthermore, lets say you wait to upgrade and you want to upgrade 10 years from now from spirit to confidence, but now instead of $4k per seat, confidence LTR's are $6k a piece. You're still locked into that original $4k per seat from when you bought your LTR's.

That combined with the exciting prospect of a new coach motivated me to go buy 'em a couple days ago.

If both amato and fisher can recruit then maybe fisher will be able to complete the other piece of the puzzle and turn our losses into wins

Interesting article by Mandel http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/football/ncaa/2006/11/how-will-wolfpack-counter-tar-heels.html

Says Lane Kiffin would be an interesting candidate.

So far i believe that Lane Kiffin seems pretty interesting along with Jimbo Fisher

Maybe its because our offensive schemes have been stagnant since PRiv. Both can recruit and be able to coach for an extended period as long as they have consistent success.

Fisher has an edge if he is able to produce good coordinators to come come with him, but as for now it is all rumor. Kiffin is a proven top 25 recruiter and a good coach at 31.

Contract is going to Paul Johnson first, then chow and the others.

We want Paul Johnson.

i'd prefer fischer, johnson, then chow

but whatever...

i wanna get this shit over with soon and hope fowler doesn't do anything stupid

^fischer has lots of other advantages over johnson
1) good recruiting line
2) coaching at a top level program
3) and the DC from Auburn

I would definitely be excited about getting Johnson, or Fischer... not sure about Chow, he's someone who's never seemed satisfied where he is, even if he did finally get the head coaching nod, i don't know if he'd still be satisfied...

statement from the Wikipedia.com article on johnson (dunno if it's been posted here)

Quote :
""I am flattered to be rumored to be on the A-List for the open Head Coaching position at the University of Alabama. However, I am going to remain the Head Coach of the Navy Midshipmen and I am looking forward to preparing for our bowl game, and especially to next season, as I feel we have an opportunity to do something that hasn't been done here at Navy in a long time. Again, thanks for putting my name out there, but no thanks.""

Johnson will have Navy's best shot ever at beating Notre Dame next year - I think Johnson wants that shot to not only be one of the best coaches in Navy history, but go down as a god there.

^^ b/c fisher is an oc, not a linebacker coach, and offense wins in college football. but really, you could say 'how do i don't know cowher/chow/johnson won't have the same results as chuck?' and there'd be no definitive answer.

I haven't heard anyone mention solich. Dude has ohio in their first bowl game since the 60's. My dad went there so I kinda follow what they do and they've NEVER been any good. That's a BIG accomplishment. Also,he was a good coach at nebraska, he just couldn't live up to those insane expectations. Think he went like 9-2 the season he got fired?

anyways, just wondering. he's a good coach and I bet he'd make the leap into a larger conference.
