I was leaning towards the Panny 46PZ85. buydig has it right now at 1448. But this site has the 80 at $1050 after rebate
http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?ref=shopzilla&sku=PANTH46PZ80U
Convince me to spend that extra $400 on the 85. What do I get, a little bit better contrast and an RGB input (can't I do an HTPC if I desired over HDMI?) 8/5/2008 5:41:45 PM |
Quinn All American 16417 Posts user info edit post |
the pz85 has a useless vga input (unless you feel 1024x768 isnt useless ((it is)) )
using the HDMI driven by your computer is the way to go.
If I were in your shoes I would buy the pz80. I don't know if I would order it online though or bank on rebates. 8/5/2008 6:15:10 PM |

That rebate is on installation or furniture. I don't hardly see how they can advertise the price of the TV itself with this $200 rebate added to the bottom line. No asterisk or see below or anything by the price
MSRP: $1,799.00 You Save: $549.00 You Pay $1,250.00 Mail In Rebate: -$200.00 Price After Rebate: $1,050.00 8/5/2008 10:15:50 PM |

Yeah, that is kind of messed up.
2. To receive up to a $200 rebate on Home Theater/Home Entertainment Furniture you must simultaneously purchase a select Panasonic VIERA HDTV AND the Home Theater/Home Entertainment Furniture from 8/3/08 through 8/16/08. Both purchases MUST be on the same receipt 8/6/2008 2:43:47 PM |
TroleTacks Suspended 1004 Posts user info edit post |
I did some googling. Apparently, Panny has run this same rebate deal quite a bit.
Now...to game the system. If you can just get a receipt to show installation then you can claim the rebate. So, the question is, how to get this receipt without actually having to pay for the installation (I prefer to do my own stuff anyway).

Shit, just now read this after the post. Probably a lost cause.

eh... the Samsung LN40A650 120Hz 40" LCD HDTV was $1299 shipped free and it's normal price is $1381 shipped from Amazon... and better specs than the Sony TV as well.
like 2 weeks ago, why the Sony is front paged and the Samsung wasn't, i have no idea... the Samsung was the better deal... - http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=877641

all for $690 AR + tax at best buy

I have the 52" 650, and I know when I had my htpc hooked up via vga, the tv knew to turn itself off when the signal went away, but with hdmi, the tv stays on and shows the no signal screen. Do you guys know how to make it automatically turn off? I read that there is a 3 hour if you never touch it somewhere and there are on/off timers, but I use the htpc exclusively and have no real need to use the tv remote and I don't want it turning on and wasting power unless I'm there watching. 10/1/2008 7:09:15 AM |

I am trying to decide between the 52A650 or the 52A750. I like the DLNA on the 750 but the "halo effect" is annoying. Not sure if it has been fixed in the most recent 750's or not. 10/8/2008 3:44:11 PM |

But the 650 doesn't have the DLNA to stream media directly to the TV.
The 750 also has nicer video decoders too.10/16/2008 10:56:28 PM |

it doesn't but you can view pictures/music from USB sources (external hdd & flash drives)
i have a mediaPC for all my streaming so 650 was easy pick for me.
