heres another story about this situation
heres the main difference in this guy and Edwards
Quote : | "The first calls on his cell phone came from two lawyers asking to represent him in a slander case. Elizabeth Edwards, they told him, had called him a "rabid, rabid Republican." That wasn't all. The Democratic presidential candidate's wife also told The Associated Press she didn't want her children near Johnson because, she said, he once pulled a gun on workers investigating a right of way on his property.
Johnson, a 55-year-old retired landscaper with arthritic knees, said he's not interested in suing.
" |
basically a couple of up-and-coming John Edwards' called him about suing and he didnt want to
^^wow thats pathetic4/11/2007 1:20:36 PM |

^ This same neighbor--whose family has lived on the land for generations--estimates that a hundred tractor trailer loads of trees that had been cut down were hauled off the Edwards' land. So much for carbon offsets, huh?
There are two Americas, folks: one with hundreds of tractor-trailer loads of trees still growing, and one with those trees clear-cut to suit the whim of a greedy lawyer. I think I heard those trees scream, counselor.
V The truth hurts, doesn't it?

Quote : | "Orange County Republican Chairman Responds to Elizabeth Edwards The Associate Press is reporting today that Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential contender John Edwards is “afraid” of her “rabid” Republican neighbor. “In today’s ultra partisan climate of political rhetoric, I find it unsettling that Mrs. Edwards seems to be so hostile towards her neighbor, Monty Johnson,” stated Orange County Republican Party Chairman, Augustus Cho, a Korean-American. “Mr. Johnson has been living on this land in Orange County all his life,” said Cho, “and his family has owned it since the Great Depression. Mrs. Edwards seems to be uncomfortable about Monty exercising his Second Amendment right of legally owning a firearm, and about his First Amendment right of free speech.” Monty Johnson has a sign on the fence across from the Edwards compound that says “Go Rudy Guiliani 2008. Cho continued, “The Republican Party is welcome to all who ascribe to personal freedoms, property rights, individual responsibility and less intrusive government. Mr. Johnson has not been active in our local party, but we would welcome him to do so.” John Edwards, Mrs. Edwards husband, has made the concept of “Two Americas” a cornerstone of his campaign for the Presidency. “Apparently, the America that John and Elizabeth Edwards live in doesn't include living near someone who doesn’t fit their concept of what their neighborhood should look like and what their neighbors should think,” Cho continued. He concluded, “I think most Americans would be disappointed to learn that someone who aspires to be in the White House sees hard-working Americans in this light, regardless of whether they are Democrat, Republican or neither.” Mr. Johnson’s property is right across the road from the Edwards’ 102 acre, gated estate. The Edwards compound, valued at more than $6,000,000 includes a 28,200 square foot house, complete with a swimming pool, basketball court and a racquetball court. “No trespassing” signs are prominently posted at the entrance of the estate. “The Edwards are rightfully controlling access to their property,” pointed out Augustus Cho, “but they apparently do not think Mr. Johnson should have the same right to defend his property.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 9, 2007 Mrs. Edwards: “Not in My America” ...IT IS DIFFICULT to be an American patriot these days:
On April 8th, the Associated Press published a story by Mike Baker in which Elizabeth Edwards, wife of John Edwards, called her neighbor a “rabid, Republican.” http://wral.com/news/state/story/1264744/ Supposedly, one of the main tenets of the Democrat Party is to stand up and defend the “little guy” from the abuse of the wealthy, that there is an inherent value to all human beings. This is an honorable thought. However, in direct contrast to such a long held appropriate philosophy, the aspiring First Lady, Elizabeth Edwards, has referred to her closest neighbor in a term reserved for animals; even worse, one with rabies. She has called her neighbor Monty Johnson of Chapel Hill a “rabid, rabid” Republican.
It was clearly a cheap shot at Republicans. However, in the process, she has offended not only members of the Grand Old Party across the nation but, more pointedly, all the overtaxed property owners, hard working employees of the incorporated world, and all the small business owners across America because that’s what Mr. Johnson is.
A Freudian Slip? He happens to be a Republican, but he could have just as easily been a Democrat or an Independent. I wonder if Mrs. Edwards would have referred to a member of her party in a similar manner? Or is she accurately expressing what her husband, John Edwards, truly thinks about the majority of Americans from behind their prominently posted “No Trespassing” sign of their $6 MILLION dollar home across the street from Mr. Johnson?
The True Tarheel Mrs. Edwards wants us to think of her as a victim of her “rabid” gun-toting neighbor and is trying to manipulate the media into portraying herself as such. In reality, the true victim here is Mr. Johnson, who has been living at the property for over thirty years. Monty is a classic North Carolinian, much like the rest of us of the state. A farmer by trade and an owner of a modest small business, he has been supporting his family in the county where he works and lives. No doubt he has worked much more than 40 hours a week on many occasions to pay his bills. He may not have attended the law school in the town near his home, but he and millions like him make our proud state what it is today.
The “Gun” As far as the gun brandishing event, here are the facts:
One day, several men whom Monty did not know, came onto his property. The appropriate step for the strangers would be to come and introduce themselves, explaining who they were and to ask permission to be on Monty’s private property. Instead, they ignored him and went about their agenda on his property, in the process violating his privacy as well as interfering with Mr. Johnson’s business. Mr. Johnson went out to inquire who and what they were doing on his property. Since he was outnumbered several to one and since he didn't know who they were, he had his gun with him in case he needed to defend himself. (By the way, it is still lawful to own guns in the United States of America* and furthermore, owning a gun does not make him “rabid.”) These men turned out to be working for John Edwards.
*U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Amendment II: “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Neighborliness of the Edwards
It is interesting to note that Mrs. Edwards states, “I wouldn’t be nice to him anyway.” That is quite a revealing statement, and it says more about Elizabeth Edwards than it does about Monty Johnson. John Edwards frequently jogs on the same road, and according to Monty, Edwards has never said “Hello” or even acknowledged him or any of his neighbors. Apparently, the locals are too far beneath him in his social pecking order, which is quite problematic for a man claiming to care about the under-privileged. Either that or the locals around Edwards’s estate are evidently not poor enough to receive his Poverty in America compassion and consideration of the basic human respect of friendly greetings between people. At the least Elizabeth is honest in that she admitted to the national press neither she nor John has been nice to Monty anyway, and they probably never will be. If actions speak louder than words, then the Edwards have spoken at 100 decibels as Monty has already been threatened by them regarding the condition of his property. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards: True Democrat humanitarians at work.
It is a sad day in America that when one wanna-be politician moves in, a local resident with decades of roots has to move out because the former will use his law degree against the latter just because he can. Is this what a UNC-CH law degree was meant to be? It’s a good thing that Monty Johnson is not one of Edwards’ poor. Otherwise, he will go hungry six out of seven days a week (or twelve out of fourteen days for two weeks) for, according to Edwards’ Assistant Director of the Poverty Center, John is “typically there [at the Poverty Center] once a week or once every two.” Now, THAT is commitment. Apparently, on other days, they are too busy avoiding their “rabid” neighbors…

I sometimes wonder why it is so embarrassing for Edwards that he graduated from NCSU, you would think that he would embrace having attended a land grant college created to help the working class of NC better themselves financially since that is where he came from and that is what NCSU allowed him to do.
