Halo 3 has the Forge Mode and the Saved Film feature... these are groundbreaking, a "generation ahead of it's time" is the phrase I belive the critics at IGN used.

The demo is pretty much all I need of that game, I would like the other powers and characters.... but oh well... HALO 3 is all the FPS I need!

^^^ those are both heavily dependant on user generated content/control which is fine by itself but I feel this makes them distinct from the main game mechanic

and its not like game videos and level editors haven't been around before

I'll give forge that the changes can happen in game and modes can be shared and propagate throughout the network, but I've seen game manipulated by a server admin making random spawns and what not

I'm not saying it'll be a bad game but I just find the whole thing to be fairly generic in gameplay aspects

BTW: quoting IGN is fairly laughable

Generic or not, it's a whole lot more fun to me than Bioshock is and that allegedly re-invented the genre.

Also, is driving the vehicles in this game just something I'm going to have to get used to, because they don't really control for shit.

Lionheart, don't troll....the reason Forge is so groundbreaking is because people can make all sorts of crazy game types, gravity modifiers, item modifiers, insane equipment/vehicle modificaions the works.

Bungie has already said that beta testers in teh community have already made these insane Halo baseball games with anti grav guns, battlefield 1942 like capture points games, real time strategy - esque resource games, and full on racing games.

I dont know how you dont think that's not REALLY COOL for longevity and fun. If you don't see the promise in that, you aren't thinking.

If I was genuinely trolling I'd talk about how Halo is the ultimate gay series since out of the two women in the games you couldn't even stick it in one since she's a holgram and all the fanboys just bend over for Master Chief.

I genuinely don't see it as such hot shit, and theres tons of games with radically different types of mods and gametypes out there before Halo, see Half-Life(s) and the fact that it is so dependant on user created content, I don't feel like you can judge the merits of it just yet.

I'm gonna get the game sure but lets try and have some goddamned perspective here.

yeah if you have a preorder, or even they had 9 extra copies for general sale at xroads ebgames, you come in and get your pickup receipt, then you will show that receipt at midnight to get the game.... but there is a line. probably at least 60 deep - growing really quick now though. Good thing I am absolutely first in line!

oh well god thanks daria, like it's wrong to be excited on the countdown the game releases. Alot of us love this game. This is the halo 3 thread. What excactly were you expecting? Of course we are excited and for right reason...

so, I've never played any Halo but I am horrible at FPS on a console... I assume that I wouldnt like this then right? (not sure if it has some nifty way of handling the FPS part or not...)

Jaybee, i love halo and FPS through and through... but it doesn't sound like it's the game for you. it's a solid console FPS... controls etc aren't a far cry from any other one. definitely play somebody's else's copy at least, give it a shot, but i wouldn't buy it first

the human nade kill radius seems to have received a nerf. I find they are more like a stepping stone to getting a gun kill than deadly effective.

Played the first 2 levels, Heroic difficulty.

It's great so far, I die constantly though, there are so many more things that can kill you.

The hardest part so far was clearing out this room of brutes blocking a barracks, there are like 15 of them and you have to take them all on at once. And one guy has like 3 times the normal life and is holding a gravity hammer, so when he starts running at you then you're screwed.

I replayed that part a lot.

Also, the snipers in the first level are frustrating.

as soon as I opened the game we played split screen multiplayer (4 ways)...then co-op legendary. Shit is hard as hell! But i'm blown away, the graphics and enviorment are awesome.

been playin it tonight since about 1am, and after 5ish hours it's a freakin sweet game. Me and my friend went through what looks like about half of the campaign on normal.. which was maybe 8 or so levels. The campaign is a lot longer in Halo 3 than either of the 2 before it. The gravity hammer is the shit, but killing the guys that have it is rough. Forge mode is way different than I expected, and you really have to try it to understand how it actually works i think. The weapon selection and number of vehicles is sweet and the graphics are unreal compared to the previous ones. I'm gonna fail my tests this week.
