for awhile the idea of sequels to this movie that take place during the same event but from different point of views bugged me because i couldnt place where ive seen that concept done before, but then i remembered

half life.

so here's my deal, obv hl was an epic game that i loved, and the idea that they played through the same event at mesa with expansion packs was also a great idea. Yet i just dont see enough plot (that you didnt see from the first perspective) to drive the movie's on (same with blueshift and opposing force imo)

i think its a neat idea and a great way to indirectly tie in plot holes, but im not sure if its worth another full movie.

the thing i could see them doing is making another long single perspective film with more plot holes and then when selling dvd's they market shorter "film evidence" that fill in the holes and tag them into the dvd. idk

^^I agree about the weapons. When they finally run into the military and then leave I would have at least asked a solider for a sidearm if nothing else, maybe even a knife.

^And I think he meant some type of blunt object, if nothing besides a pipe or pole or something to protect yourself, especially with the small things running around. Don't think he was talking about stealing a rocket launcher or tank.

As soon as I saw the small things running around I believe I would have equipped myself with some type of weapon if only a knife or wrench, something to use to hit them if I needed to.

I think the crowbar was a homage to HL

In the sequel they need to bang it around on everything as they walk.

Step 1: Secure weapons (preferably firearms).
Step 2: Secure vehicles.
Step 3: Use procured weapons and vehicles to get to safety.

... and they didn't do any of that.

^^And break every crate they see, lol.

And if they manage to kill one of the creatures, smack their dead bodies until they explode.

I thought it was great

the shaky camera sucked for the first little bit, but then I got used to it. Well, at least until they were in Beth's apartment building and the strobe lights started

besides that, I'd give it a solid 9/10

The movie was pretty good. I was unimpressed with the monster, though--it looked suspiciously like a combination of a cave troll and a kraken, which has been posted in this thread:

well there have been so many monster movies made through the years that its probably impossible to create something that show no resemblance to a creature from another movie

I thought the long, apelike arms were a good touch

the monster's IDENTITY was not that important, which seemed to me what the guy was saying he was unimpressed with.. he was a big fucking destructive monster...

I can easily see how someone would be unimpressed with the monster and like the movie.

The monster in question is not iconic, for lack of a better word, like Godzilla, King Kong, and others. When you think of a giant monster or any monster, you likely won't think of the one from Cloverfield, which, as I indicated, seems to be an amalgam of various film monsters.

DROD900

Impossible?! Hardly.

That post resembles the lack of imagination that has--unfortunately--become all too familiar in Hollywood. Credit to Cloverfield's filmmakers for the cinematography and for artfully combining elements of The Blair Witch Project and 9-11. But the monster itself was a punt.

My wife threw up half way through the movie. She has motion sickness.

I didn't throw up because I have l33t video gaming experience. But, don't get me wrong, I seriously wanted to gag myself after seeing this movie.

Luckily my tickets were free.

i thought the movie was pretty good. it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and i jumped during the helicopter scene. i didn't so much mind the 1st person camera (although i was skeptical beforehand).

i think i like the fact that the audience only knew as much as the characters. that made the movie work in my opinion.

Not necessarily. I would imagine that someone would have to physically recover the tape for anyone to actually see it. So it makes sense that you would know quite a bit about what happened after the tape stopped. Namely the current status of the monster up until you found the tape.

^ that's not part of the story though. the movie was a story of the people's experiences during the chaos. it would have been totally different if they did a "let me tell you a story" type deal with bits of the tape slipped in every now and then.

as it stands, we can't know more than the people involved, when the event was occurring. so in that regard, the ending did make perfect sense.

i think they shouldnt have done the whole government 'cloverfield' thing with the beginning of the movie. because it left those kinds of questions out there. people who say, it was obviously recovered and filed with that intro and thus there is more information on it out there.

i couldnt care less either way just throwing that out there

The point of the movie is for the audience to know exactly what the people filming it knew. Thats it. Knowing anymore would completely ruin what they wer trying to do.

^^that's a good point, but i think it still worked since the movie was about the experience.

of course it did kind of ruin the end when they were in the helicopter trying to escape because you knew from the beginning the tape was found on the island in central park...

^ i wouldn't say it ruined the end, more like it was the light at the end of the overly shaky camera tunnel.

i understand that when you are running for your life the camera is going to be shaking and probably pointing at the ground, but that jackass that had the camera was not only annoying as hell but he apparently had parkinson's disease too.

Just saw it

my only question is do most modern day video recorders have 7 hours worth of battery life? Including that time they used the light on the camera? I havent checked into camcorder technology since about 1996.

I'll be the kindly soul. The camera wasn't on the entire day. The camera was only on for as long as the movie lasts - 2 hours or so. During the gaps in time, it was turned off.
