Stanford tonight at 1030 ET
FSN (nationally televised, i think)
10 point halftime lead last time, then blew it as soon as the Lopez twins got Pendergraph in foul trouble.
The Trees are 3 pt favorites
we'll see

Not trying to start anything but haven't they always?
Really good win for Herb. They are looking to be on the bubble with this kind of play.2/15/2008 1:08:07 AM |

heh...no...they haven't at all. herb's teams have (save hodge and a couple others) have always been robotic and lifeless. compare that to sid's team towards the end of last year.
of course sidney's team this year rivals anything i've ever seen from herb. jury's still out on whether or not they decide to wake up or not come crunch time. 2/15/2008 1:14:19 AM |

right now is crunch time for this year's team.
unless you think we're winning the acc tournament.
SORRY, ASU THREAD. 2/15/2008 1:16:35 AM |
ohmy All American 3875 Posts user info edit post |
well last year's team didn't wake up until tourney time and was one half away from being acc champs.
we could still afford another loss, maybe two in the regular season, and make the tourney.
so there is room for error. it's just sad that this team is closing the room for error exponentially by losing games they should easily win.
but yes, this team shouldn't have to wait until late february to wake up anyways (if it even does...which i'm not counting on)
and yea, gg to herb tonight. 2/15/2008 1:22:08 AM |

next game is Saturday at 6 ET
FSN-AZ (DirecTV 649)
Beat Cal last time, at home, in double overtime.
The Arizona sweep, the Xavier win, the Oregon win, the Stanford win, etc are all worthless without beating teams like Washington/Cal/OSU.
they have to finish strong, get to 20 wins, get the 4 seed in the PAC10 tourney and they'll be a lock in the big dance 2/15/2008 11:21:35 AM |

Unless they lose out...this is a huge turnaround for ASU this year. Good job Herb.
If they finish out decent, any chance he gets coach of the year honors?? What is his competition for that award? WSU's coach? UCLA's Ben Howland? 2/15/2008 12:33:23 PM |
packboozie All American 17452 Posts user info edit post |
Bennett and Howland are not candidates right now.....those two teams were supposed to be 1A and 1B and are far from it. I say Herb and Tim Floyd or Trent Johnson are the top candidates. But yes his team has made great strides this year. 2/15/2008 12:35:39 PM |

They should finish 3-2 over the next 5 games. Would make them 19-11 and 9-9. That would likely get them in even with a first round loss in the PAC-10 tourney. First round win and they are a shoo-in if they finish 3-2. 2/22/2008 10:39:02 AM |

Heaven forbid State try to improve on a coach who was a collective 8-40 against Duke and uncch.
Besides, Herb left on his own. He had the support of the AD and the big donors at State. Nobody forced him to leave. I'm glad he's gone where he can compete in a mediocre league with coaches of equal or lesser caliber.

Uh huh and I guess that's why the ACC is #1 in the RPI rankings, yet again, while the PAC 10 is #3 overall.
Kinda sucks when those pesky numbers get in the way of a shitty argument, doesn't it?

I'm about to go out to the gym so I don't feel like arguing, but I'm right... and nearly EVERY expert out there agrees that the Pac-10 and the Big East are the top two conferences. The ACCs RPI is the best, yes, but that is because of the consistent averageness (not a word I don't think) of the teams. The Big East and Pac-10 are better conferences without a doubt.
I know that doesn't fit in to your Herb rant but it's the truth...

^^ From what I've seen, the ACC looks better, but I'm biased. I didn't look at every team, but it looks like UCLA played a tough schedule and won most of them, they're legit I know. They all are basically given 2 conference wins by having Oregon St. in that conference, so a 8-8 team really didn't play all that well. And the worst team in the ACC (UVA...soon to be NCSU?) beat Arizona, a middle of the road team from their conference. I know I've heard some analysts say up to 7 Pac-10 teams making it in, but I really don't see it. Arizona State played a whole lot of home games, and won them. Now they're on the road more, and in conference and not doing as well. I don't know, maybe if I tried I could do the same with the ACC the other way, since I know State lost to UNO, ECU, and Maryland lost those crappy games they lost, but I think the quality night after night in the ACC is a little bit higher than the Pac-10. But then again, I watch the ACC every night and hardly ever see Pac-10 games... so anyways, let's hear the counter argument. 2/25/2008 1:38:24 AM |

Pac 10>ACC this year.
UCLA was my pick preseason to win it all and still are because of the way they play defense.2/25/2008 2:05:09 AM |
