Burleson broke Walton's nose TWICE in the same game. If Walton ever wanted to become a coach, he would be knocking on State's door though. That would be some awesome shit.

I wonder what Walton at State would do for recruiting .... Talk about a man with some NBA connections and such. If he actually did want to coach I'd guarantee his choices would be....

1. UCLA (should have Howland for 10+ years
2. NC State (He'd def. get up for some Duke/UNC games)
t-3. Humboldt State or App. State

Note the "If he actually did want to coach...." part, which I don't think he would ever want to do. He has an incredible history with State dating back 35 years.

I think he's over it by now. I have heard him speak in Raleigh and in LA at different conferences. He has nothing bad and everything good to say about the Pack. He talked about Burleson, Towe, and Thompson at length in Raleigh (they were all in attendance), talked about Jimmy V and parallels to his own life for half an hour in LA.

Burleson invited him to the conference in Raleigh. Walton flew out from SD and spent two days here. The conference was a fundraiser for a Raleigh-area Boy Scout troop.

I've always tried to figure out if Walton hates State. Yeah, he always bitches about losing to us in '73 and in the Final Four in '74....but he also talks about how David Thompson was the best college basketball player ever.

Its one of those hate/respect things. But I would think him to be mature enough not to hold a grudge.

And I don't know why people are even mentioning him being a coach here. Has the guy ever coached at any level other than probably his son's peewee league?

I brought it up in regards to what he or anyone else could bring in terms recruiting, didn't mean to imply that he'd do it (or could). Little slow on the recruiting front right now....

Why would Wright transfer here? He is going to start the next 3 years on a certain contender in a system he is comfortable in. That makes literally no sense.

Not true

At all

Wright was all set to come to NC State after Sidney was hired and we re-recruited him. He had a last minute change of heart (His parents wanted him to stay closer to home) and he ended up switching right before the signing period

Yeah, I had the order messed up a bit. Should have said he decommitted without speaking to Lowe (which he did). He pulled his commitment-he didn't switch anything right before the signing period though. I rewrote that twice and still got it wrong

My point is that even after Sendek left and Wright de-committed the first time..... he had all but give Sidney the word that he was coming to NC State.

After a visit here to talk with Lowe (And many rumored he had given him a verbal) he called a few days later and said his parents got too emotional about the thought of him going so far away and he had decided to go to Georgetown.

He had essentially re-committed to NC State under Sidney Lowe... he just decided to switch and go to the hometown school a few weeks before the signing period began

I never saw him coming back even with all of the speculation. He obviously verballed because of Herb, as he decommitted 3 days after Herb resigned.

I'm guessing recruiting news is gonna be a little slow until after the tourney...

Eh, we'll never know. From James' interview with Wright, it sounded like Wright wanted to, it was his parents that wanted him to stay closer to home.

I know it could be a BS reason, but if true, you have to wonder when-push-came-to-shove, would Wright have backed out on Herb? I'm not insinuating that he would have.... I just thought it was odd to commit to Herb, basically re-commit to Lowe, then back out becuase 'your parents want you to stay closer to home'

Either way, we needed him. Bad

The guys on PP who actually know what they're doing (which is very few of them) were positive that Wright was coming to State. He had said as much to people and word got out. I remember thinking we had him in the bag...basically the same thing with Hickson. Usually the moderators over there don't go out of their way to say someone is committed if its not true, and Wright had told them one thing, then about 2 days later changed his mind.

^^we recruit year round for every year. Just because we're recruiting a player doesn't mean we're gonna offer them. Now if Hickson DOES go.......an offer might go out

even if you don't know whether or not hickson is leaving, he's put his name in the draft, so there's obviously a possibility. thus, you have to be prepared for this.

however, i don't know how excited i'd be about a 3* guy who's 6'10" 190lbs.

I'd assume we're just following him in case something wierd happens. I doubt that if JJ leaves that means we'd offer this guy. Now if JJ leaves and Brandon says he's not coming back, we MUST recruit someone to fill the spot. Otherwise, hold the spot for 09

yeah i think degand was already turned down. simon's scholly will be gone if we need it next year. if hickson leaves, it doesn't necessarily mean another 2008 recruit, though the frontcourt would probably need it.
